Upgrade to Windows 10?

Maybe it varies by area, since mine she literally just opens a bing page with listing of movies. But how it is on yours is how I want mine.

did you set it up in interest yet?

Also can i watch T.V. on my surface while playing a game on my xbox? Or can I play a game on my surface while I watch T.V. on the xbox?

I'm in TN and it stiII hasn't roIIed out here. Is there any substantiaI reason that I shouId wait for a reserved version and not downIoad it straight from MS's site?

Nope, just get the ISO, mount it and perform an upgrade.

I'm restoring back to Windows 8.1 right now.

Hell, I JUST received and installed my GTX 970 yesterday. Glorious PC Gaming last night. Then this Windows 10 upgrade which has been a giant lag fest so I'm bailing. I'll wait a few months and try again when there is some good information on fixes/workarounds for various problems.

My upgrade was prety sluggish too in terms of performance, fresh install fixed it. I also have a 970, the refresh rate was set wrong making it feel worse too.

Doing it this method, can you clean install it instead of just upgrading? or doing this way just lets you upgrade?

I believe one of the options were a clean install, yes. You can download and try, the option is given before the process trully starts, after it is installed in the pen drive.

If you upgrade your Windows 7 installation to Windows 10. Is the original Win7 key still able to activate Windows 7 if you decide to reinstall 7 ?

Anyone tried yet ?

During the update your windows 7/8 license also becomes a valid windows 10 license. So after the 1 year period you can just get a windows 10 iso and use your old windows 7/8 key. Thats why its important to make the update while its free.

Thats afaik so far...

This is what they need to clarify. I want to know for sure that, once I do the upgrade from 8.1 -> 10 in that first year, my 8 key will be valid with future 10 clean installations that I will do years from now.

I upgraded and was positively surprised that all my stuff was perserved exactly as it was. Can't get it to activate though, so I'm not sure if it's the activation server that has problems or something. Going to keep trying for a few days, and roll back if it doesn't work out. Fortunately I keep full Acronis backups of my system (though if I didn't, I wouldn't have jumped on this the first day)

He seems to have the issue

Let me know any app that does open

Hmmm. It's almost as if I'm on a preview build that is now defunct due to the new release or some crap. Only way I can get my head around how this happened. I'm trawling through all the apps and I can't get a single windows 10 app open. The only thing I can open is windows explorer and most of the apps I already had installed like chrome, geforce, steam etc

you using custom wallpaper, or built-in?

you on an above 1080P screen?

Custom wallpaper. I had my own slide of wallpapers (not sure where to find that menu now). And yeah, 1080p screen.

It's somewhat minimal but considering I use wallpapers with solid colors and blacks it gets jarring.

hrmm, not upscaling artifacts then - that's annoying, hopefully you sort it out!

Just do not start the app store then.... remove it from you start bar that's all. You are still free to install any software from any website you want to. No need to use the win store at all.

That's pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear. Sounds great.

Anyone have any issues with their xbox 360 controller wireless adapter?

That's the one thing I'm most concerned about not working.
Especially considering I have one the non-official ones.

In the Start search bar, type "Update Device Drivers" and you should see it as an unknown device. Click "Browse my Computer" and Let me pick..." and find Xbox 360 Peripherals. From there, you'll see the receiver in the list.

Windows always had the driver. You just have to manually select it. Works with some third party adapters too.

Not just me then, phew.

Upgraded from a MS store bought Windows 8 Pro and it failed to activate earlier. Will try again soon.

When I try to activate it says to me:
"Windows can't activate. Try again later."

And, its saying
"Current product key: *****-XXXXX"
The last numbers shown in there are not my serial key number I used when installing, and even when I click "change product key" it gives me an error.

I upgraded from Windows 8 Pro 64bits to Windows 10 Pro 64 bits.

Is that the same error everyone is having?

Activation server is getting hit...retry it every so often

Maybe verify integrity of game cache? This solved an issue I had w/ launching DiRT Rally on W10.

eh for me, for some reason NVIDIA turned on 3D (I launched the game earlier and it was normal, just with poor fps)

I was wondering why it was talking about rendering depth and stuff.

Are those last digits 3V66T by any chance?

Thanks! I was looking for a driver last night.

That's the one. Looks like the activation server is having trouble too. A new key is to be expected as it'll be a Win 10 key generated by the system.

This was really easy and seamless. Everything is working just like it did on windows 8.1, but I can confirm that Netflix does not work on the new Edge Explorer, at least not for me. Games are running just the same. So far though it doesn't look or feel as good as 8.1, gotta play around with it more.

Its activated now!

For those who cant activate keep insisting. I may have clicked that activate button for like 30 times!

Edge doesn't support Silverlight, so I think that's why Netflix doesn't work.

Just download the App for Netflix.

Edge is super strippped down and doesnt support ActiveX. Will have to use another browser or app for Netflix.
