upgrading my 3D-card and ram - worth it?

I have a AMD64 3200+

1GB Corsar value
9800 PRO 128Mbs

is there a MUCH powerful AGP cards out there? that will really make a difference?

and if I changed my RAM to Corsair XMS, or some other better quality one, would it boost the performance by a lot?

thanks in advance

EDIT: sorry, I wanted to post this on OT forum.. can you move it please?

Yes. Upgrade to 2GB and you'll be laughing. For AGP look at the 256MB 6800 GT or Ultra. 9800 Pro is ok if you dont mind lowering the settings alot. 6800 should let you play near very high/max with AA and AF. :)

Add ram, dont get caught up in the value vs super xl turbo ram crap. 2 gigs will be sweet, though you can certainly get by on 1 gig. As for videocards, you should check out the 6800 gt, 6800 ultra, or an ati card like 850 xt or 800 xt. Of course, someone's gonna say "but you need nvidida for sm 3.0!!!111!" and while that's true, I don't think it's a requirement as some make it out to be. That said, if you have the choice between a card that has it vs a card that doesn't, for the same price and performance, pretty easy choice :)

An alternative is to go to a pci express board and videocard, which is a lot more future proof than continuing down the agp lane. Chances are that won't matter to you, but if you planned on spending something like 500 bucks, it would only make sense. A 7800 gt can be had for low 300's these days, and it smokes any agp card.

You'll need 2 GB for the very high settings in FEAR and Battlefield 2. So weigh up the options carefully. RAM isnt that expensive nowadays as it used to be.

I have 2x 512, and on free slot. is it ok to buy a different kind of 1GB ram, or does it have to be identical to the old ones?

and which 6800GT should I buy from sparco? cuz I can't order from Newegg, the won't accept international credit cards

sparco - http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/search?keys=6800gt&x=0&y=0&category=

I have another Q also. where can I buy this converter oline, other than newegg?

thanks

actually, my friend wants a component output for his new TV, so he wants a decent, yet cheap, 3d card and a converter, so I offered him mine.

thats what started it

Oh then I suggest getting a 6600GT if you're happy with the current performance, if not look into the 6800 and 7800 lines. XMS RAM is a rip-off too and only really useful for overclocking, just get another gig of Corsair Value RAM if one isn't good enough for you. >:(

A differnt course of action would be to put the same cash into a 360. It can be hooked up to a monitor too so you could just use it for games. Depends on the games you want to play, but it is a viable option to paying for expensive game cards. Not saying that's for everyone....I do pc gaming too just that I see the 360 as a lot of hardware for the cash.
