B-Dubs

No Scrubs
a) Apparently someone asked for more security in Libya before it happened. - this is legitimate issue
b) Obama said contradictory thing about it being terrorism or about that stupid film - this is nonsense

Romney chose to focus on option b, and got burnt for it.

Actually they asked for more security for the embassy, which was 100 or more miles away from where the attack happened. So yea, it wouldn't have done much. The whole thing was fucked from the start.

Still holding out delusional hopes that there is some convoluted way to fit gay marriage into this debate.

Fuck the debate planners.

I knew this 25 or something year old kid I went to college with who was legit bald like a 40-50 year old. It made hm look old but he sported the look. It was like a 25 year old George Costanza

Meant for the bald 20-somethings thread?

And?...wrong thread I'm guessing.

I want to see some good questions asked. Especially on Iran and also what Romney would be doing different in the ME.

In reality this is Obama's strongest area both in terms of record and his ability to talk about the subject. He should crush Romney but Romney is being very well prepped and just like last time he will find a way to bullshit his way through and people will mostly come away saying it was a draw.

Foreign policy is the #1 reason why I'm worried about Romney getting elected. I think he and chickenhawks like him are legitimately dangerous. GW Bush was enough, thanks.

No need for facts. It's like asking for more troops in NYC when the attack happens in Richmond, VA.

Bah, I knew that. I wanted to use Ohio only at first, but it felt weird.

"The most powerful man in the world of 7 billion people, selected by... Ohio"

Edit: Actually that doesn't sound weird.

when the people are questioned over why they choose Romney over Obama usually the responses are "well hes not Obama" NO real issues are thought about before coming to that decision... if Romney wins it's all down hill from here

I don't even know what these guys are going to debate about. They basically agree on everything of actual substance, and only differ in their tone and rhetoric.

1. Continued / tough sanctions on Iran
2. Military force if necessary to prevent Iran nukes
3. Israeli alliance stronger than ever until the end of the world
4. Afghanistan presence til 2014*
5. Continue / expand drone program everywhere
6. Support rebels in Syria
7. China bashing
8. 'Spread democracy' throughout Middle East

The only difference these guys have is that Romney is trying to push a tough-guy attituded about it, and Obama is trying to push a nice-guy attitude. And Romney will try to hammer Obama on Benghazi. So, what points is everyone hoping one or the other makes against the other? I'm predicting a bunch of "I agree with [opponent] on this, but [blah blah same shit different word choice]."

I don't feel like you learn much that is valuable from these presidential debates, but it's pretty interesting going back and watching older debates and reflecting on how those candidates and their predictions panned out for the future. Listening to Bush/Gore right now, will probably check out Reagan/Carter next.

I hope we can learn more about the Chinese hacking into United States' computers. That seems to be a striking point that Mitt seemed to be rather passionate about and didn't seem at all to be said glibly and off the cuff.

The debate will consist of Romney saying I will basically do the same shit but better and that Obama is weak for not acting like a arrogant ass to foreign leaders. If only he showed "strength" then everyone would just fall in line due to America's Magnificence. Oh we also need to increase military spending after fighting 2 wars for some dumb reason but I will pretend I didn't say that.

17 of 24 of his special advisors on foreign policy served in the Bush-Cheney administration.

The fate of the world rest in the hands of people of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Florida. The world is not balanced.

ohio, colorado, iowa, and nh are the four must-haves, especially if ohio falls. if obama loses ohio, he must win the other three states.

I expect the following to be the larger items in Romney's word cloud
  • Apology Tour
  • Bomb Iran
  • Gosh
  • Fast and Furious
  • Libya and/or Benghazi
  • Seamus
  • Golly
  • Apologise
  • Weakened military
  • Tough on China
  • other words that are not Bin Laden

What they mean is, "he's not a Democrat". Republicans aren't going to vote for a Democrat, and vise versa. The reasons they have are probably seeded in core party values, on key issues. Do you need to ask a Democrat why they won't vote Republican or a Republican a Democrat? Why even try pinning someone down and demanding reasons why they won't vote for Obama?

Can't you figure it out? Its not rocket science.

I can tell you that, in the very conservative circles I run in, abortion stances play a huge role in voters' motivations for choosing Romney.

Debate is going to be infuriating to watch as both candidates battle to out do each while proving their love for Israel.

:(

I think it's odd to have a FP debate that focuses on such a narrow line of topics. Nothing about Latin America? The drug war in Mexico? The European economic crisis? Africa?

Well, I can give them a pass on the Drug War since it's not huge news up here. Euro-zone should be covered though, surprised to see why it isn't in the list of topics to cover.

These whole 90 minutes just seem like a setup to me. Team Obama and Romney don't really differ very much on ME policy. The only difference that has come out of either campaign so far is that Romney wants to expand the military and Obama wants to keep it around the same size (or shrink it if sequestration actually goes through).

Just going to be a 90 minutes of them trying to gotcha each other. Incredible for the base of each side but not truly informative.
