US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

It's not that the music in Persona 4 is bad, it's just that there aren't enough tracks to justify a 80+ hour game, so the repetition that sets in from hearing the same shit over and over again eventually causes the brain to rot.

I never got tired of Your Affection or Heartbeat, Heartbreak, so YMMV.

Bought Muramasa. Gotta support quality (re)localizations.

Now I finally have some Vita games! I got the console awhile ago and I was waiting for some promotion like this one.

I got Persona 4 and Ys Celceta. I wanted to get Muramasa too but I'm without the monies for it right now and my memory card can't hold more games anyway (thanks ATLUS).

And I love the music in Persona 4. I could spend the whole day listening to its OST. Ys Celceta seems to be godly too in this department.

I dunno, some of them are pretty specific to an area, so I don't think it's too bad.

Grabbed Ys Celceta...
$22 left on account.
I was gonna grab Totori Plus, which is why I got so much on my account.
Beginning to consider Muramasa Rebirth instead due to lower price, but... I didn't like the gameplay of Odin Sphere, and I don't know how MR compares.

This thread is making me wonder if I would enjoy Atelier Totori. I like JRPGs (older ones better than new ones), but the anime thing kills me. The game looks like something I would be unable to play due to the art, voices, and character design. The entire aesthetic turns me off. I was marginally able to deal with Recettear because I loved the concept.

In writing this I feel like I am making a decision for myself already, but that JRPG itch needs to be scratched - I'm just not sure this is the game to do it.

Does this help or hurt?

This should answer the question.

Is there anyway to turn off the music in Persona 4?
I can't stand listing to this soundtrack one more minute. I absolutely FUCKING HATE the music so goddamned much, but I can't find any sound options. I really don't want to, but if I have to play with the sound off I will; However I'd rather not miss out on everything.

Chrono Cross' soundtrack is phenomenal. I wish it were attached to a better game.

I'll never get the chrono cross hate. Except when it's from people who can't accept a sequel doing its own thing.

If you could consider also getting Ys: Memories of Celceta, it's a kickass action RPG with a kickass soundtrack. You've already got a great set of RPG games on your Vita, and Ys games rarely ever go on sale on US PSN.

Ys: Memories of Celceta was one of the first games I bought when I got my vita and imported a 64gb card. Thanks for the advice though =).

Decided to hold off on Zone of the Enders HD. Should take some of the sting out of getting Meruru and Totori.

So I got Chrono Trigger and I'm playing it on Vita as my first time ever. The "load" times are completely acceptable (with the Disc Load Speed set to Fast). I wouldn't really even call it load times, just a minor pause for a sec or two. I'm glad this sale happened because I was planning on buying Chrono Trigger last week, but decided not to due to all of the complaints of the game's load times, but they are more than acceptable. The game itself is fun so far but a bit hard imo (playing with Active on instead of Wait) and the story is somewhat interesting so far.

I didn't really care for Chrono Cross, independent from expectations of a sequel to Chrono Trigger. The enormous and discombobulated cast made for an odd disconnect to the character roster and the plot completely jumps the shark.

I'm not saying it's terrible. However, in my mind, there's an absolute inconsistency when comparing the superb soundtrack to the underlying game.

In for:
Soul Calibur V
Tales of Symphonia Chronicles
Persona 4 Golden
Rain
Time and Eternity
Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory

6 games total, 57.85 spent.

How the fuck did someone even look at that game and decided "I should make a more serious OT for it"?

Though I guess the fact it still elicits responses like that makes it almost like an experiment.

hahahaha no idea man. too much time apparently.

At the end I just bought Metal Gear Rising (already finished it, what a great game). And then I looked at the store for the DLC, and it is free :D
Had $5 left on my account, so I also bought Bioshock. Sony is taking all my money with this deals :/

For a game I already beat 5+ years ago.... Persona 4 has been holding my interest again in Vita form really well... Played 15 hours since my vita came in a couple days ago. The new relationship options offer just enough to keep me in that "just one more day" cycle.

If I've already used a month PS Plus trial, can I use another 48-Hour trial or something?

If yes, does anybody have a spare so I can grab Muramasa?

I picked up both Tales games and Neptunia Victory. I am really digging Neptunia.

Unashamed plug and begging request: Please buy ZOE HD. I want a third game in the series (and a sequel to Fist of Mars).

Sigh... so tempted to buy more... but 2 big problems: Had car troubled literally the day after I bought my Vita for the games I purchased and I'd need to buy a larger memory card (only have a 4GB on it)... also I still have another 60ish hours of Persona 4 before I could get to anything anyways... First world problems indeed.

I never got tired of Your Affection or Heartbeat, Heartbreak, so YMMV.
My man, loved those two especially heartbeat heartbreak. Alone is another good one, pretty much everything on the soundtrack is gold. Pun intended.

I got Zoe hd and spec ops, I really wanna get ys since I just finished conception 2 and I'm itching for more vita goodness but my backlog is too big:(

Oh god... I'm week, I'm crumbling... The sale is going to end tonight and I've already committed myself to $40.

Muramasa is in, as is PSV port of MGS... but I'm going to get one more RPG to finish my new Vita off (already 20 hours down on P4G, so I know it'll only last me another week).

That leaves me with the decision between Atelier Totori, or Ys... so hard to choose.

Well it breaks down into whether you like action more or management more when it comes to those two.

Personally would go with totori.

Hmm that's just it... I do enjoy both. I'm wary I might be burnt out on turned based combat by the time I'm done with P4G, but I realize there is a lot more to the game than that. I haven't played an Ys game though since SNES so I'm not sure what I'd be getting into there... and some action RPGs get quite repetitive (insert most Tales games here).

The Ys series has traditionally been the most old school of action RPGs, even the newer "modernized" games play more like Zelda or a much smoother Secret of Mana than Kingdom Hearts, Dark Souls, or Fable.

Good to know... maybe I should consider this another way.

Anyone know the average play lengths for both games and approximately how much of that is "filler"/boring content (we all know jrpgs have to have at least a little of it).

It's a good thing this sales only lasts a week.

I started off by getting Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection on Vita. Which is an awesome port, btw. I thought that was all I'd be getting, but then decided to get Zone of the Enders HD Collection as well. Then read up more on Ys (I'd previous played Felghana and enjoyed that) so snapped up Ys: Memories of Celceta.

Then looked at the list again today, and decided that the price for Muramasa Rebirth was far too good to pass up, so that's just been bought.

Coupled with the flash sale over the weekend, I've now loaded up my PS3 and Vita was awesome which should give me months of fun.

Sony are killing it their sales, PS+ freebies and Cross Buy promotions of late. If only they'd put the 64GB cards on sale as well...

I don't really mean management as in party combat management and all that. I meant management as in time/equipment/progress management.

I'd also say that skipping meruru to totori is valid as meruru improves on totori's system by a tenfold in making it smoother to play, but totori is still pretty good and it makes you appreciate some things more in meruru.

Mind you, if you like your JRPGs with a solid, linear story totori is not that. There is one big overarching story with time limits but it's a lot more free form where trying to unlock different party member's side stories matters more.

The only true answer is both. >:D
Totori's more traditional JRPG with some time management and one of the deepest item creation systems in gaming, Ys is like Zelda on speed with some of the best action-RPG combat in gaming. In terms of memory usage, Totori is 3GB+, whereas Ys is ~900MB. They're both very good, but Totori will probably last you longer with its multiple endings.

Ended up grabbing ToS Chronicles. I never played ToS2, so for $10 + the PS2 version of ToS1, I'd might as well.

I'm really lovin hotshots, fantastic physics, lots of little extra touches in the courses. but that character design and some of the cutesy shit really brings it down a few pegs for me.

Ah dammit, now i'm even more tempted.

Is Soul Calibur V worth it? I loved 2, 3, and 4... But didn't get 5, I know they released the new F2P game, and I wonder if it's still worth to get 5 with the F2P game.

The art style is what it is, so personal preference certainly applies to how you feel about it. I personally like it, although the various accents usually make me wince.

But underneath, the Hot Shot / Everybody's Golf games have always been the best implementation of video gaming golf. Simple, arcade controls, yet offering a ton of depth.

The Vita game is the best one in the series, but after playing a few of them on PSP, PS3 and Vita, the fact that each iteration is pretty much identical in structure is well in need ot a shake up. I've never liked how you have to 'level up' your character to unlock basic moves like spin. I don't want to have to grind in a pick-up-and-play sports game.

Yes, I know what you meant. I never purchase a game "blind". I understand the concepts behind the game :)

Interesting point on going Meruru though instead of Totori... If I went Meruru first would I have too much issue going back to Totori at a later date from a playing standpoint? (some games are quite difficult to "downgrade" to playing the older titles).

If I get both I have to drop Muramasa and Metal Gear... which may actually be acceptable. I've played and beaten both on other systems... Gaaaah...

Does the sale end tonight? Or at the end of the 5th? I may need that extra time for research...

Do you like multiplayer or singleplayer?

If it's the former, you'll probably like 5.

If it's the latter, don't buy 5. (Don't play the f2p one, either, for that - play one of the old ones.)

Hey, might as well experience new things rather than rethread on old experiences right? :P

That's been my philosophy for this sale, which is why I didn't get persona 4.

Broke down and bought Atelier Meruru, but I don't feel too bad because I have beaten Totori already.

If I beat Meruru before it goes on sale again/gets cheaper I will be happy.

Okay okay... I've been convinced on getting Ys and one of the Atelier games... now I just have to decide on which one... Is it wrong that looking at screenshots I'm leaning towards Totori because I like her character design more?
