US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

Just for the sake of figuring out which one to buy.

Which one has better replay value or is longer? Muramasa or Guacamelee?

The base Muramasa game got really repetitive for me on Wii. The additional DLC chapters (which don't come with the game standard of course) are supposed to play quite a bit differently... just be warned of that. Not sure about Guacamelee.

Okay okay... I've been convinced on getting Ys and one of the Atelier games... now I just have to decide on which one... Is it wrong that looking at screenshots I'm leaning towards Totori because I like her character design more?

Sure. It's still a good game.

Purchased yS: Celceta, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Devil May Cry HD Collection. Plus also grabbed up Red Dead Redemption from the Flash Sale. Loving these sales that Sony has been having recently. Thanks to these sales and PS+, my 500gb PS3 is finally nearing it's final 35 gigs. Gonna have to start picking and choosing soon -_-.

The art style is what it is, so personal preference certainly applies to how you feel about it. I personally like it, although the various accents usually make me wince.

But underneath, the Hot Shot / Everybody's Golf games have always been the best implementation of video gaming golf. Simple, arcade controls, yet offering a ton of depth.

The Vita game is the best one in the series, but after playing a few of them on PSP, PS3 and Vita, the fact that each iteration is pretty much identical in structure is well in need ot a shake up. I've never liked how you have to 'level up' your character to unlock basic moves like spin. I don't want to have to grind in a pick-up-and-play sports game.

I agree with Hot Shots being the best video golf game, i played the hell out of all the ps2 releases especially 4.

Probably Muramasa. Guacamelee is short and at best you'll replay it one extra time
If the gameplay is fun, I can endure it being repetitive; I thought of going with the WIi version but short bursts in PSVita does wonders for me. Thank you both!

There's still the hope of Guaca going IGC I think. :P

for sure Mutant Blobs did dint it?
I completely forgot about this game, need to beat it at some point but yeah, it was better to go in small bits from time to time.

Muramasa has a ton of filler though. Pretty much everything that's not a boss is filler, but the boss fights makes up for that. Really enjoyed the boss battles in this game.

Gameplay was definitely fun and there is room for more advanced techniques... but I think I mostly just button mashed my way through the game :) Story was worth it (to me anyways).

Started off with just Hot Shots Golf, which I have been enjoying by the way, and decided to snag Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross to play on my Vita for my trip coming up. I'm satisfied now :).

Alright Gaf, I made a final decision... and I think you'll be proud of me (though I have a feeling my wife won't).

So...

Meruru 19.49
Totori 19.49
Chrono Cross 3.49
P4G 14.62
Soul Calibur 5 5.00
Ys 19.59
- 81.68

On that note, I don't think I'll be buying anything more for my Vita in a long long time. <_< So if I think about it that way I'm totally saving money right? .... Right?

I'm at 28% map completion so far on YS and it's really interesting how this game is set up exploring huge maze like areas. Feels different for the series (I didn't play seven so I don't if that game was the same also) but I'm really enjoying it right now. I just love the exploration in the game just because there have been many different paths to take early on. Does the game have an actual dungeons and bosses or does most of the game and map percentage take place in the forest?

It has dungeons and bosses. Ys wouldn't be Ys without them.

Bought Metal Gear HD Collection Vita and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles from this.

Damn Tales of Symphonia looks rough. I mean, what improvements are made by Namco for this supposedly HD release? I am guessing only a resolution bump and really really nothing else whatsoever (like perhaps new texture or stuff like that) because holy shit it looks rough on my TV.

*VERY* different than FFX/X-2 Remaster.

Yeah it's a pretty rough "HD" upgrade at best. But the textures definitely look better (you can do a search for a side by side if you want to see for yourself). And the resolution has been adjusted to fit widescreen televisions. Honestly I can't complain to much, it's a great game that looks a little better than it did back in the day and isn't stretched to hell on my TV.

But man.....going out on the world map can be a bit rough with those weird shadow blobs running everywhere!

<3. Was just worried cause I've almost completed 30% of this map and haven't really seen a dungeon outside of the mines intro. Still really enjoying the forest exploration though, its really addicting trying to fill in the map and find the paths to the memories.

Just think, you saved over $100 if you would have bought all of those games at regular price, and you'll get hundreds of hours of potential fun out of it. =D
This sale was literally the work of Satan. God have mercy on our wallets.

Do you like multiplayer or singleplayer?

If it's the former, you'll probably like 5.

If it's the latter, don't buy 5. (Don't play the f2p one, either, for that - play one of the old ones.)

Do you mean single-player as in story? Cause I do like it when a fighter has a good story (DoA5, MK, Injustice), but I can still play a fighter if I have to go up against AI or players.

Well, I've never played Tales of Symphonia before so it's not I am not grateful for the opportunity to play one of Tales' most famous titles... It's just that, heh, damn. Well... I am sure at some point my eyes will adjust and I will be used to it.

I am still at the very beginning but the game kind of surprised me though! Usually in other JRPGs characters like Lloyd (the lead hero) and Collete (the token Chosen One love interest) will meet only after some time in, but in here they already know each other right from the very beginning. Kind of surprised.

The game takes a very Lunar approach to their characters... I just don't like how the entire thing plays out... or the constant "shut up" from Lloyd... hope you like hearing it :)

Why should i NOT buy Danganronpa right now?

Because Danganronpa 2 is coming late this year and the original game *might* get a discount as a promotion of the second game?

My final haul becomes like this:
Atelier Totori +
Muramasa Rebirth
Vagrant Story (Yeah not Golden Week but still Japanese)

It has been two days downloading that 3gb Totori thanks to the 1gb per day bandwidth cap of mine....

My first GAF post :D

Planning to pickup Y's and one of the Atelier game for Vita, but I never played any of those games' previous entries. Will that be a problem later?

Not really. Ys games are stand alone, story wise. So yeah go grab those games asap.

Nah.

All of Ys' games are self-contained, pretty much. Adol arrived in a world > Adol saves a chick > Adol saves the world > chick falls for Adol > Adol nods towards the chick while muttering in his heart, "Goodbye, sucker" > Adol runs away > Repeats cycle.

Adol don't let a ho hold him down.

Almost forgot about this sale.

Armored Core: Verdict Day, Soul Calibur V and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles all for $20. ^_^

What do you guys recommend more: Ys or one of the Atelier games for Vita? I love JRPGs and I would like to own them all but my wallet is a little tight right now.

Y's, no. Y's Origin (1+2) went on sale last summer, IIRC. This is the first time this Y's has gone on sale, yes.

The PSP Ys games went on sale when Celceta got released on US PSN.
This is the first time Celceta was on sale.
Ys games rarely go ons ale on US PSN.

Danganronpa is so freaking good you guys. Sure, it doesn't have a super steep discount, but if you like Phoenix Wright style investigation and deduction, along with a similar take on Japanese high-school kids like Persona 3/4, you're in for a treat. I've been glued to my Vita ever since I got my hands on it!

Ys, but take note that the Atelier games rarely get on sales.

As I've said, pick Ys if you like ARPGs, pick atelier if you like management.

All right, bought Ys in the end. Atelier can wait.

So, after everything, bought these games:

-Tales of Symphonia Chronicles
-Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Vita
-Chrono Cross
-Muramasa Rebirth
-Ys: Memories of Celceta

With this I'll have months of fun. Along with P4G, PS+ games and P3P.
