Run in one direction, then hit the opposite direction and jump. One way to really rack up combos is to do a back flip, then a ground pound and there will be a combo of 3 right there, and then clap to grab whatever is near you.(i.e. one of the smaller monkeys or the branches) to continue your combo. I think my highest combo was like 12.GaimeGuy said:I still suck at the combo system. Can barely get 800 or 900 beats on a stage.
I need to master the combo moves (I don't even know how to do a backflip. :X)
For every aeriel move you perform, you gain +1 to your combo. The higher your combo, the more each bannana is worth. When you touch the ground, your combo resets. Also, you only gain +1 for every different aeriel move you pull off so if you jump between two walls like 5 times, you will only gain +1 for the initial jump.Mejilan said:What's the trick to comboing? It's not the same as getting multiple bananas in one fell swoop, right? I noticed that double jumping leads to +2, and for some reason, double jumping and grabbing a ledge leads to +3?
Well gee I'm stupid. :lolIronclad_Ninja said:Run in one direction, then hit the opposite direction and jump. Silent_Echo said:Also what's everybody's high total for the mad-bongo-beating-bannana-collecting-inbetween-level-mini-game?
The higher your combo, the more beats that each bannana is worth. With a high combo you can grab 400 beats before touching the ground as long as you keep it going.Mejilan said:Cool. What does comboing do for you, exactly?
I agree. Some of the effects are just drop-dead gorgeous. Just wait until you get to theMejilan said:The graphics are surprisingly beautiful. I cannot wait to see what else this new Tokyo studio does.

Yeah I agree. The game runs at such a great speed without dropping the effects. Hell, they even retain the close-up of DK in the corner in all his fur-shaded beauty. Also, I absolutely adore the interactive soundtrack. I was swinging on a vine and I soundly heard a sound so I just left DK swinging there. I noticed it was a violin that was playing to my swinging. Every time I reached the apex of my swing, the violin would play a note and as I lost energy, the notes would get lower in tone. I know it's nothing new but it just blew me away.ge-man said:Agreed. I've heard some people say the game has mixed bag visuals and stuff, and if you actually play it's far from the case. Besides being 60fps, there's fur shading and there a couple of places where bump mapping appears to have been employed. I bet the programmers had fun with this one.
spoilering that and then mentioning heat flare leaves little to the imagination :lolIronclad_Ninja said:I agree. Some of the effects are just drop-dead gorgeous. Just wait until you get to thelevel. The heat flare, among other things, is absolutely stunning.volcano

I will probably be picking this up next weekend. I can't wait to play it, but I need to see if my friend bought it first.

DrLazy said:Fuck that Gamespot review. Seriously. This game is incredibly awesome. I liked the Sonic reference earlier because thats what this game feels like Sonic done right.
First you have the bongos, the uniqueness factor is great, and its just more fun slamming on a bongo then repeatedly pounding A.
Then there is the INCREDIBLE graphics. Maybe the best 2-D graphics ever.
The sound... I can't say enough about how upbeat and fun it is to have these little monkeys playing music and cheering you on.
And the game design is fantastic. If there's a fault... its that the game starts of a tad slow, but the later levels with the cannons and platforming are just awesomeness. Simplistic at first, but with depth. Sure you can beat it quickly, but the game is made so its almost impossible to die... the real challenge is the medals.
Finnally a question for you guys... would it not be the coolest thing ever if they would of included Mario 1 in the game.... that you could play with the bongos? mmmmm.... bongos.

Bristow said:Ok, so after being out for a week and what little hype there was dying down - do you guys still recommend a purchase? I almost picked it up today when getting Yoshi Touch 'n Go, but was still hesitant after reading some of the reviews claiming it was too easy.

Damn, double post. Sorry.Mejilan said:DKJB is the most inventive, most fun, and downright best platform game I've played this gen, spanning all platforms.
I cannot agree more! It is just so refreshing and sadly many people are going to think that the bongos are a gimmick but I really coulnd't see myself enjoying this with a controller. Everything just comes together to make DK: JB an absolutely excellent experience.Mejilan said:DKJB is the most inventive, most fun, and downright best platform game I've played this gen, spanning all platforms.
Good job! Once you get started, you can't be stopped, trust me.GaimeGuy said:Got my first platinum in orange kingdom.![]()
