Never seen something more facepalm in my life.
EDITED - I changed the OP so that the video is not getting needless clicks unless you want to go see by yourself, so to misdirect clicks but still see TLDR, the bald goblin shall serve its purpose :
For those who want to see the original video :
Timestamped original video at the DEI talk because there's too much stupid content
Its so cringe that I would not blame you for not watching 47 mins of that. They basically set arbitrary rules of how many women or peoples of colour should be at Valve.
"Part of making any field more diverse is that you have to start introducing diversity into it"
Why is it a necessity to make any field more diverse?
"There are already more middle-aged white guys in the games industry than any other group of people"
Middle-aged? So Steam either retains employees for a long time, or hires seniors to get shit done.
Could there be a link with white peoples being majority in USA? Or the ratio of peoples finishing universities? Imagine if you have seniors, their college years are over 2 decades behind maybe, when the ratio of white in college enrollment was 70%
How do you even validate having ~15% minorities graduating college, even probably LESS in computer science field as they are dominated by males, to then have 50% or more representation of DEI in a company? The math doesn't check out. It's not organic.
Same for women, I mean the ratio is not in favor of women for computer science. Insert Bill Burr WNBA joke here. Is it also OUR job to convince women to join this field?
According to this university, the ratio of male vs female in computer science is 4:1. Which is already surprisingly low, I'm sure there was massive progress for that in the past 20 years for sure.
Absolutely MENTAL to critique for that.
Valves hires on merit
and well
They are more efficient than big tech companies like Apple & Google on revenue per employee
