Well as long as they are the best people for the jobs at valve that's fine by me, no matter what colour they are, hiring people based on their race or ethnicity instead of talent isn't working out so well lately lol.

Most western game companies are political but actually hypocrites. They talk DEI, minorities etc.... but almost all their giant employee photos in the lobby are white people and skewed heavy to guys.
I can understand Asian countries who dont go ape shit on DEI and live in places which are 99% homogenous being all Asians. But in the US where there's tons of different people and studios preaching DEI rhetoric, where's the diverse hiring?
That's probably a reason why their DEI infused games are so laughable. You got Joe Bob and Mary Lou whities using their brainiac creative genius thinking every Black person has giant hair with ghetto talk and Latinos are forgotten or are relegated to being drug thugs in action game X.

My point is that your point about “chasing the profit motive” is incorrect here because this was the thinking that led to these moves and these moves were installed at the CEO level. It wasn’t some rogue HR group forcing the company to hire “diverse” people, this was done at the very top.I only read this...

The only counter to this would have to be companies receiving large ESG score bumps with DEI CEO's. Are these companies so large they can work less efficiently due to a lack of competition? It's always interesting to see where DEI isn't making much headway (small business and professional sports) because efficiency is more highly regarded in those two fields.

Dei has a lot to do with environmental social governance.
Like in California they implemented DEI into board rooms so you have they have someone who probably isn’t qualified sitting in your board meetings.
Also when it comes to loans and capital the ESG score is like how qualified you are to get loans. So corporations do DEI stuff and are more likely to get said lines.
No DEI no loan. It is all pandering and virtue signalling. They can they use it as an attack on other corporations that can’t take the DEI hit In efficiency.
