They pulled Chris Avellone off of the project after he got (falsely) accused of being a creep, and then there was the ensuing fallout that eventually led to them switching development over to The Chinese Room.

Seems like the franchise has a pattern of bad dev treatment. It was a shitshow with the first one too, well in a different way but still.

They got replaced after the game was in development hell for an extended period of time. The team removed Avellone's contributions because he got falsely cancelled, then Mitsoda got the boot iirc. It was a total shitshow.

Sucks though!

Loved the first one. Serious fan.

But when you factor in Modern Day Developers + the development hell this game has been in for years, I have no hope for this. Wouldn't be happier to be surprised with this being on par or close to the first.

When it comes to beloved old IPs, I learned to bury my heroes.

More than I expected to be. But, based on the development history, I'm still a bit skeptical and will wait and see what people think of it.

Looked up some more info on the game since I've been completely in the dark and it sounds like it's going to be a total mess

IF I ever get the game, it'll probably be when the complete edition is on sale for a deep discount

The day 1 DLC for clans was recently dropped if I remember right. Lasombra and Toreador are now going to be available as options in the base game.

The lack of RPG elements, humanity system or dialogue stat checks does feel very odd for a Vampire The Masquerade game though.

I would not put much stock into random twitter posts. Will it be as deep an RPG as the OG? Probably not. But I am pretty sure most of that list is nonsense.

Anyway, I just fired up the OG to soak up a bit of its atmosphere, it is still so good, man..

I don't get how Paradox spends 9 years trying to get a sequel out without ever making proper remaster of the OG. I mean it still looks great, but at least implementing unofficial patches officially and adding controller support would be nice, dammit.

Yeah, it seems as though they reversed the DLC clan decision a week after that tweet

What makes you so sure? The DLC clan thing was 100% real but they changed it as a result of backlash.

Edit: Of course he doesn't respond. Anyway, I'M pretty sure the 'random twitter post' was just summarizing the round of previews and not making things up.

Holding out for reviews, if the general consensus is that the narrative and writing gets anywhere close to the first, even if it's a little janky, I'm in.

Yes it's a shame that we'll never get the true™ Brian Mitsoda vision for this sequel, but the fact of the matter is that his game couldn't even cross the finish line. If this version ends up being a solid game, albeit a deviation from the original, i'd take that over the more faithful but poorly executed game. Any day of the week.

Word on the street says that it's a VtM:B sequel in name only, and in truth it's a Vampire themed first person action game with little RPGing to speak off.

It will also most likely be Woke as fuck....

Depending on the reviews I might pick it up on sale.
But I never played the original, and whenever I've heard talk about this sequel it's usually in relation to its troubled development. So I'm not expecting much.

Waiting for the player's word of mouth on this one. I'm prepared to give it a lot of rope here - the first game was a mess, but it's also legitimately one of the best games of all time. If fans are happy, I'll buy in.

I somehow never played the first one. I'm in the same boat as a lot of others where the early reveals of this and impressions seemed luke warm. I think I'll just see how things are looking when it releases.... Blood of the Dawnwalker seems a better suited vampire type game for me, but that's not until next year, so this could fill the void.

If they removed the day 1 DLC to add different DLC did they really remove the Day 1 DLC?

Jeez i hope the game will be decent but i don't see that happening a quote from PC Gamer.
Vampire: Bloodlines 2 is richly authentic, intriguingly written, dripping with brooding atmosphere, and... not very fun to play, unfortunately.

Beyond hyped and irrationaly so since development hell rarely traduce in good games.

I loved the first one and even if this look way different, if they give me a dishonored with vampires and some more dialogue\rpg choice i can die happy.

Combat looks a bit clunky but meaty and impactful and the powers looks very cool.

The Please be good chant has never been more real for any other game...

Undecided between bruja and tremere, i usually never pick mage class but the bruja look a bit too basic...

Some things are incorrect or partially incorrect:

There is some character creation stuff but it's only cosmetics, hairs, eyes, accessories i think...

All clans are playable with the hobo version.

You can use guns, you just steal them from enemies and use them via telekinesis

You should pick up brujo. It fits your personality better

You'll never know just how much I loved the original. This one though? Is just giving me a CW show vibe with those characters and dialogue 🤷‍♂️

They pulled Chris Avellone off of the project after he got (falsely) accused of being a creep, and then there was the ensuing fallout that eventually led to them switching development over to The Chinese Room.
Even worse, they fired Brian Mitsoda who was narrative lead on the project and head designer on the first one, for mostly the same dubious reasons (if i remember correctly).

I don't know if hyped is the right word but I've been cautiously optimistic for years.

The original is a good game with a lot of strengths but a lot of negatives too and one of the worst levels in recorded history (the sewers).

since when do we listen to PC Gamer

it's been a clown show for years.

Almost everything I've heard about the game is anti-hype, right down to the day-one DLC clans. I get that their publisher is famous for that crap, and the devs probably aren't strictly at fault, but still.

Also, combat seems an afterthought. I guess that's not such a bad thing in and of itself, but I have no idea if they've got what it takes to make a plot interesting enough for that not to matter.

OT thread name suggestion? "Good to the Last Drop?" But that's contingent on it being good.
