Umm... I hate to correct you but... Spawn was always black?
Oh wait... Is this sarcasm?
What's next? Will they try to make Spawn black, too?
Nobody has changed a white character into a black one in this thread. And last time I checked nobody has called anybody a racist unless I missed a post somewhere.
They cant because nobody will watch the TV/movie if it's not tied into an recognizable IP or character. Can we stop it with the race/gender swaps already?Just create new characters ffs
Don't engage with him... I put him on ignore a while back. He says anything to get a rise out of anyone who doesn't share his viewpoints.
Starfire is a freaking ALIEN... Her skin color doesn't even matter as she's not even WHITE!
Hawkgirl gets reincarnated after every death... She was Egyptian, right? Isn't that Africa? Even if she was Greek -Egyptian, the reincarnation but doesn't even mean she has to look the same in every life.
And Kid Flash... Both Wally's are in the same universe now... It's been established that they're cousins. One is WALLACE and the other is Wally.
The Little Mermaid... I'll just list
1. She wouldn't be translucent, as some have suggested, because so many animals and fish down there have varying colors and levels of pigmentation.
2. Hans Christian Andersen's story was very different from the Disney story in how the story actually went (the prince married someone else and the mermaid turned to foam).
3. So the Disney animated movie had Jamaican characters... Implying it didn't take place ANYWHERE near Denmark... And even the original story didn't take place in Denmark since, you know, the mermaids lived ♪under the sea! ♪
4. There are TONS of mermaid myths all around the world... Predating HCA's story. Mermaids don't exist ONLY in European folklore. In fact, it's possible HCA got his idea from any number of non-european folklore tales.
5. The red hair is a uniquely Disney invention for the character.
6. They ain't real.
Not to mention that Marvel and DC have this thing called a Multiverse... It's been long established that there's black, white, Asian, Latino, etc versions of each Prime character...
And the most important of all these things... ALMOST ALL of them (the ones in UK and North America) were written in times where 90% of the creators are/were white and so were the characters they created or "recreated" (some of these stories originally had non-white peoples as the lead). And nothing about MOST of them HAD to be white. And it's still 85-90% white lead characters in books, comics, TV and movies. Most nerd genre fare is still white lead or mostly white cast. No one is hurting for more white leads. And most of the ones you listed are side characters.
Ok, lemme get off this... This is about a Multiverse Velma ... Because there's been 50-11 universes of Scooby Doo series.
We don't know what they did with the real Shaggy either. They're probably tied up in a closet somewhere. I guess we'll have to see when Mystery Inc. pulls off their masks at the end.i read scooby motherfucking doo ain't even gonna be in it? what's the point.

I was just talking about how redheads have seemingly been disproportionally targeted for raceswapping by Hollywood. I don't give a shit about the vast majority of the characters stories or source material in any of the examples I posted, just noticing a weird trend. At first it was just a "heh, isn't that weird?" thing, then it just keeps happening.
As a side note, I hope somebody is paying you to do this type of posting, it seems unusually important to you for some reason and I'd like to think it's motivated by something you actually get out of it opposed to just standing up for people in the industry that probably dislike us all to our cores and see us purely as money cattle fresh for the milking.
You do realize the year 2000 was over 20 years ago right? What example sticks out to you of a POC character race swapped to white? And male. The new Ariel is still a redhead. That hasn't changed.
And I'm genuinely tired of people being aghast and raging about x character being gender or race swapped when MANY characters in these stories pre-2000 were race or gender swapped to white and male. Even some real life people were post 2000
It was early-day internet shit. Purely based on the way she dresses. There is absolutely no sexual content in the original show.Velma being a lesbian has been an open joke and had speculation around it since I was a kid and I am 31. Anyone acting shocked or annoyed by this are just being performative.
Will definitely binge this at some point just out of curiosity though. They fucking NAILED the Harley Quinn stuff so I am in on their animated stuff at the moment.
Glenn Howerton NooooooYou forgot shaggy is now black, daphne is now asian and fred a buffoon.
You do realize the year 2000 was over 20 years ago right? What example sticks out to you of a POC character race swapped to white? And male.
"plenty" lol. A whopping 12 or13 roles in over 20 years. Now show me a list of all the poc washed roles. I'd bet there are far more of those. The most egregious was an actual hero who stepped in to help during the World Trade Center attack in 2001. He was a black Marine sergeant and was race swapped to be a white man. Look it up. The movie was "World Trade Center". They claimed it was an accident but they also said they were being as true to life as possible and working with the families of each character... Except the black Marine hero? Doesn't pass the smell test for me.
And another movie about real people was, I think, called "21" or something... About a mostly Asian crew who used math to cheat at Vegas card tables. They made the majority into white characters and the lead was a white male.
That's from memory... This link lists more ... Both real life and fictional... Pre and post year 2000 whitewashing

And I posted "pre-2000" because a lot of the race swapping from white to non-white happened POST-2000... Even though there's plenty of examples of post-2000 white washing
No, they definitely are.Oh okay, so when YOU call people “racists”, it’s a-okay.
And no, they’re not racists. They just call people out on their bullshit.
"plenty" lol. A whopping 12 or13 roles. Now show me a list of all the poc washed roles. I'd bet there are far more of those.
Bullshit. You know very well that 2016 makes a big difference. Black to white is hardly a thing these days. White to black though or white to another race is in almost every recent adaptation. I would go even further and say that there have been more cases where they changed the race of a character from white to something else in recent years than from another race to white in the decades prior. This shit has been going on for DECADES, spare me the 2016 angle.
Must have missed that post. Wokeness and catering to its cult is exactly the reason why they are changing white characters into poc. Look at the new Interview with a Vampire. There's no reason that Louie should be black. They fundamentally changed that character so much that they had to change the time period the story takes place in.What do you mean "not even half of that list"?
Maybe not Cleopatra (as many people were of African descent AND Greek... Modern concepts of race didn't exist back then and Greece was an EMPIRE that had A LOT of trade and travel to and from) as she wasn't fully Egyptian/African (some believe she was partially Macedonian).
But Jeffrey Ma? The others? What's your contention with the list past Cleopatra?
And as I said, that's not even EVERY example of whitewashing.
I even explained in a different post WHY there is more prevalence of POC washing of characters...
Umm... I hate to correct you but... Spawn was always black?
Oh wait... Is this sarcasm?
They sure as hell won't make him white in current year, even in a multiverse lazy writing garbo they spit out. What's next? Will they try to make Spawn black, too?
It's 90s as fuck. Didn't they kill off Simmons and actually make the new Spawn a white guy? I haven't kept up with it in forever. All I know is that Angela is a Marvel character now. They sure as hell won't make him white in current year, even in a multiverse lazy writing garbo they spit out.
I love Spawn anyhow, one of the best (Todd McFarlane) Marvel creations ever.
I believe they did that in the Black Panther Age where Preist killed off Simmons. That has been corrected since AFAIK.It's 90s as fuck. 100% guarantee they already have articles written about how the "toxic fanbase" is sending in death threats or whatever. It's probably like a mad libs that modern day """""journos""""" pass around and leave blanks for the _____-ists and _____-phobes.
This is 1000% baiting for publicity, there is zero reason they had to use the existing IP and zero benefit to fans or new viewers. They can get fucked. I don't even mind Mindy, if it was a new show aimed at adults without all of this nonsense, I'd have given it a watch.
Also, this continues to happen:
Now you can add Barbara Gordon from the cancelled Batgirl movie and both Shaggy and Thelma from this show.
For what it's worth, I have no hard stance on changing races of fictional characters, but holy shit it's hard to ignore the fact that redheads seems abnormally prone to it.

Take a breather! Dude! There are black, Asian, etc gingers. New Ariel is a ginger too... So is this Velma, I think.
Take a breather! Dude!
You get very "worldly"I shall not! For I am am the wielder of the sacred fire!
Ouch! That's hot! *Blows on hand*
Who's having a crisis? Most are poking fun.More representation is fine. A cartoon character that debuted in literal 1969 now being nonwhite is not quite the crisis you all imagine it to be.
I don't understand the outrage in here either. Was this going to be a show you were going to watch if it was just another Scooby Doo rehash? Are you now not going to watch because the cast of a cartoon is now more diverse than it was when it debuted five years after segregation ended in the United States?
Help me understand here folks.

Well, she's white and we know she's white, she's always been white, so theres that?Explain to me how the color of Velma's skin is a key point of her character or storyline at any point during the history of the series.
Well, she's white and we know she's white, she's always been white, so theres that?
Stop with the bullshit.
I know what he's asking, and it's horseshit. Her being white is her character. Thats it.He's asking what about the CHARACTER being white is inherent and necessary for her to continue being white..kinda like T'Challa or Blade whose histories is rooted in blackness.

Lets just stop going down this odd route, it's pathetic.
That would be an upgrade over this, yes.Fictional characters are rooted in the imagination of writers. Velma could be a talking grey hippo.
