If the asking price is $399 it will sell extremely well during the holidays.

Not a given if the cheaper skus get equivalent price drops. I.e 199.99 xbone and PS4 bundles and possibly even switch. It'll probably do better than the pro did at launch though at least in the US due to better marketing towards the core ms fan base who've been tired of the power narrative thats dominated this generation.

It's definitely possible. If the rumors of Nintendo planning to produce 18 million Switches is true, that would put it far above any yearly xbox shipments. Of course, they're currently experiencing shortages so who knows if they'll get their ducks in a row in time.

Finally going to pull the trigger on a 4K TV once the TCL 65" P-series launches later this year, will also upgrade my receiver, and will be picking up a Pro so I'm looking forward to whatever price cuts Sony offers in response to Scorpio (please be 399). sunset overdrive and recore did get released. scale bound was probably a giant mess like countless game from all companies that end up getting cancelled.

Yeah I can't see the base model being priced over $399. They would be very foolish to price above the PS4 Pro especially with the stranglehold Sony has on the market right now. They may have a $499 sku with a 2TB HD or an elite controller or some other goodies but I think $399 is a pretty safe bet.

As others have said, Sony has a lot of wiggle room for a price drop. Microsoft needs to release compelling software and demonstrate the disparity between their system and Sony's. In addition, MS needs to showcase their online services, which I suspect they'll hit out of the park at E3. I'm also guessing they've inked an exclusive agreement with someone big, maybe another NFL deal.
