Verge: Xbox E3 teasers contain hidden Project Scorpio messages (and sick PS4 burns)

I'm happy for anyone who is excited about Scorpio and for those who end up purchasing and enjoying their gaming on one.

However, all the BS marketing and console war stuff is ridiculous. Everyone needs to keep in mind that PS5 can't be too far off and Scorpio's REAL challenge isn't 4 teraflops - it's trying to compete with Sony's growing library of exclusives.

A) Do you not think that Microsoft already has Scorpio 2 mostly ready to go? They are generationless now. They will drop a new console with better specs than the PS5 to keep that pressure on.

B) Will the PS5 let you play all of those great exclusives, or will Sony again expect you to pay for them twice? Microsoft is investing, and anything they come out with between now and Scorpio 2 will be playable on day one.

C) Does Sony actually have the cash reserves to play the power specs game with Microsoft? MS screwed up badly thinking the Kinect would make up for a lack of power. But they seemed to have learned from that, and seem to be willing to go toe to toe with Sony, using their large cash reserves to force Sony to spend more money than they can really afford.

$399. As expected really given a year out from Pro.

Honestly still shocked people thought it would be over $400. It's a stronger console but coming out a year later...

MS PR worked wonders.

Yea, lots of folks predicted price while falling for marketing. Doesn't make predictions such as $499 any less ridiculous.

Yea, and those people are foolish for falling for PR so easily. It's a stronger console but a year later than Pro. Expecting $449 is still reasonable but $499?

Yea, that's pretty foolish.

Literally every post I see from you is a try hard attempt to shrug off a possible 399 price. People with way better grasp at tech than you have predicted 499 (Richard Leadbetter from DF). 399 is a great price for the specs offered. It's 45% more GPU power and 50% more RAM, not to mention other things. The "lolol one year later" logic is lazy and stupid.

PS4 Pros are still $550-560 in Mexico right now. If MS keeps their price in check like everything Xbox related in here, I'm so getting a Scorpio on release.

So they are going to lose a ton of money to beat their competitor. Smart.

I doubt they lose that much money, but it also doesn't guarantee they beat their competition.

It's more like, they have to price it at $399 if they want to stay competitive.

It is a coincidence, X10S101 robot gets you the same result. Those characters are a genuine sequence of characters scanned in from an old magazine.

It could be, yes. Or they could have known before they made the teaser ads that placing those characters into Goggle image would yield that result.

I mean, we'll know soon enough, either way.

It's been a pretty common tactic for most consoles, think the gen was the first were everyone started off by selling at a profit.
Gold subs will eventually make up for it anyways.

$399 is only a surprise to Gaf, lol. You don't get burned on pricing as bad as MS did and come out and make the same mistake IN THE SAME GENERATION.

Scorpio will already be a hard sell at $400, it would be DOA at anything above it.

$499 ever only made sense in a vacuum, where Scorpio is the only console. When the competition launched a year earlier and for $399, suddenly that $499 price looks bad and overpriced. $399 is the highest competitive price Scorpio can launch at.

Trade in One S for Scorpio, PS4 Pro drops in price.

Lets go competition....so I can get both and not go broke...lol.

Need to the Pro to be $299 tho.

And....for it to come 1-2 years later I would hope it did outdo the Pro in specs...lol

You should really slow down with all those assumptions there. First of all, the Scorpio is more powerful than the Pro so they aren't really going toe to toe. Secondly, MS hasn't exactly provoked any kind of meaningful reaction from Sony.

But if they had actual exclusives, it's possible they could still get people to pay for an XB1 or Scorpio.

With that misguided 'Play Amywhere' program though, few people need to buy an Xbox console or pay for XBL to play the games that they show - they're all playable on PC.

You not understanding the "play anywhere" system does not equal it being misguided.

$399 was the obvious price point months ago.

You bought into Microsoft's narrative of premium console and expected to pay an arm and a leg when in reality it was always targeted at the reasonable price of $399.

It has a 1.8TF difference between Pro which launched last year for $399.

The educated guess has always been $399.

No. First of all I'm going to take MS's 'premium' talk at face value instead of the opinion of some random poster here, at least until an official announcement is made. After all the PR speak, Spencer quotes, and the DF blowout I have a very hard time believing $400 is the price point let alone an "obvious" one. That attitude just reeks of message board intellectual superiority.

Man I love e3 time

MS are down by roughly 25 million units and the gap between PS4 and X1 will CONTINUE to widen. You know why? Xbox brand does NOT appeal to the rest of the world outside of the usual US/UK. Same song and dance. They have a brand problem.

True enough in regards of the world wide availablity, but in terms of the locations that you had mentioned, it could be fair to say that Microsoft probably has more time invested in locations where they know they have an audience rather than places where the interest is next to none. And it is those places where they will plan to hit the hardest. As for if it will work or not... Well, we need to at least wait for Sunday to roll around to first confirm that price.

So...you're confirming you bought into the narrative.

I can't blame you; the marketing team's plan worked. They're professionals.

Shrug off a $399 price point or say that that one is expected?

Because yes, I've been saying the latter since last year. I'm not trying to hide that or anything. That's the price I expect and I think most should too. E3 is around the corner. You want to make a bet its $399 or higher?

Cause I'm down. Otherwise, I have no idea what your call out post is for.
