Verge: Xbox E3 teasers contain hidden Project Scorpio messages (and sick PS4 burns)

Still shocks me, that people thought Scorpio could be successful above $399.

There are logical reasons why it could be above $399. Besides even if it launches at that price, it still won't be a huge seller compared to the PS4 or XBOS.

Hope Scorpio is good. Don't plan on getting one (plenty happy with my PS4 and it's lineup of games)) but competition is always a good thing.

My two biggest questions:

1. If rumored $399 is true, hard imagining they are selling it at a profit or a substantial one. What's the damage when Sony brings out the PS5 in (guess) 2019. Is two years enough time to make up for the R&D cost?

2. Also where does this put the Xbox (2?). By 2019ish I expect the next generation of consoles to be more powerful, but if PS4 Pro is the mid life console with boosted specs, is the Scorpio 3/4 life console with semi close specs to the future ?

I can't see Sony scrapping the PS4 anytime soon as it's a cash cow. Even if the Scorpio eats some profits of Sonys in the west, Sony owns Europe and Asia.

It will be interesting

1) there's a good chance MS will sell it at a loss if it's $399 IMO. However with them expecting XBOS to outsell Scorpio, maybe the profits from the XBOS will make up for the losses with every Scorpio sold (assuming the XBOS is sold at a profit).

2) Scorpio is a mid generation refresh, just like the Pro. I also wouldn't expect any next gen console until 2020 at the earliest. I expect both Sony and MS to launch the same year again as well. Neither will want to give the competition a year advantage.

Edit:

Precisely.
I don't care how much they tinkered with it, it's still a massive bottleneck for the 6TF GPU.

I don't think either MS or Sony had many other options for their refresh consoles.

Sony was really snarky about the (objectively bad) Xbox One launch announcement, so they've earned some blowback here, especially after basically just playing it safe and chucking out a glorified PS4 32X...

"The 6-4's a family, and we'll kick your arse!"

All I can think of.

-X10S
-Xbox One-Zero (Scorpio)

I'm going on record as guessing that Scorpio's product name will be "Zero", as in:
-Zero compromises
-Zero competition
-Zero fucks given.

Its supposed to be about going back to their roots and capturing what made Xbox great. Also fits in with Microsoft's numbering non-system.

More info on Sony's sweet software line up, upcoming Switch titles and Scorpio details... This E3 is going to rock.

Why the One, just Xbox Zero works great.

All this talk of new console's in 2019/20 as me baffled, i'm thinking we won't see another one until 2022 at the earliest. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if the same people shitting on Microsoft for not releasing their games on PC now shit on Microsoft for Xbox not having any true exclusives.

Correct me if I'm wrong, while Sony had the luxury to undercut the price of the PS4 at launch for $399 in November 2013, can MS do the same with Scorpio? I'd be very surprised if this gets priced below $499! My guess $499-$599 $599 offering a 2tb HDD and $499 offering a 1Tb HDD. Or who knows perhaps MS does undercut the price of the Scorpio and throw a curve-ball at us with a $399 entry price.

Not a lot of people wouldn't be willing to pay $100 or more for a better CPU.
The thing is: they want to push 4k as much as they can while keeping the costs down. What do you do? Invest in a better GPU, RAM and that's pretty much it.

There's no need for a better CPU if they want to push 4K.

2022, that's like 5 years from now. iPad will out perform Xbox One by then.

Isn't Jaguar a netbook powered CPU and it also happens to be a common bottleneck for both MS and Sony, remembering hearing it from the folks at Digital Foundry in one of their tech analysis videos

No way. The successor to Scorps will be 2019. Scorpio will take the place of the One S.

Ps5 will be out at the very latest 2020. Probably 2019.

399 wouldn't be undercutting the Pro, it would be equal. Sony will likely drop the price to 349 regardless of Scorpio's price, so I don't see a way for MS to actually "undercut."

I'm primarily interested in seeing their first/second party announcements.

We miss you guys.

$399 has been confirmed?

No, but it's being teased in the ad posted in the OP. I forgot to add "if true" :)

Now my only problem is that i live in an unsupported country and therefore the SRP wouldn't translate to exactly 400 dollars, but anything around that price range, I'm already sold.

You should share whatever you're smoking.

7 years, PS3 to PS4

Or 8 years if we look at when the generation started with the 360. =)

It will be interesting to see if MS and Sony use the Pro and Scorpio to extend this generation or if they launch a next gen console in a few years.

Thing is MS can release a new console too in 2020 if Sony release PS5 in 2019, because Sony give them reason able to do this.

Personally I wouldn't give the system a second look if it was over $400.

MS seems invested in this generationless idea. I don't think Sony was expecting much out of the Pro. Just giving people options.
