Verge: Xbox E3 teasers contain hidden Project Scorpio messages (and sick PS4 burns)

A few things.

1) Microsoft didn't have their eyes set on having the most powerful console in the past, and this is obvious. Since PS3, Sony has always tried to have the better tech. This changed with Scorpio, and IMHO it was due to the massive "power" and "true HD best graphics" outrage that has been rampant all this generation (something certain posters are desperately trying to downplay when it was getting to be so extreme that I've had casuals walk into my store and be flabbergasted at the Xbox kiosk because they assumed it had Wii-like graphics due to the internet and couldn't tell the difference between the Xbox/PS4 kiosks on our 30 inch screens). This is something Microsoft will focus on from now on, and looking at their Surface line, they're doing a fantastic job at hardware for a software company

2) Microsoft is vastly richer than Sony can ever dream of, and according to this thread will even be taking a loss on consoles sold to gain marketshare and/or mindshare, because they can. That is some crazy stuff right there. And looking at Satya's statements, Xbox is an important part of Microsoft (unlike how some anti-Xbox peeps try to push a narrative that Microsoft will dispose of Xbox because of X, Y and Z, which is hilarious in retrospect), and if Scorpio gains some traction and generates profit/revenue for them in the long run, we will see this continue to be the case. This is something they can do with ease, unlike creating new studios and IPs from the ground up which takes many years and is an unguaranteed investment (that's not to say they shouldn't invest in exclusives, because they absolutely should and I hope they do over the next few years).
I am sorry, but in what world did MS not go after the most powerful console during their respective launches besides the XBO?

And two, people need to stop with the whole XBox has unlimited money angle.

Correct me if I am wrong but Xbox s is doing poorly worldwide no ? If they expect it to outsell the Scorpio by a good margin then it's basically DOA. Lol

Last I checked, XBO was selling better than the 360 at the same point in the cycle. So unless I'm wrong there, I wouldn't say it's selling poorly, it's just not selling great when compared to the PS4. I hardly pay attention to sales figures these days, so I'm far from an expert.

Point was MS expect the XBOS to outsell Scorpio and I think that's a realistic expectation.

I can see Scorpio selling a lot more to Xbox One owners than PS Pro sold to PS4 owners, simply because there is a bigger difference in power between the Scorpio and Xbox One than PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Going from the weakest console to the strongest is an easier upgrade for many people.

It's also the feeling you get from the internet, with PS4 owners not in a hurry to upgrade and Xbox One owners wanting to upgrade.

Yea, I can see that, but not by much. Only because Ms has already tapped into their casual stash with those sales and minecraft bundles. People looking for the cheap option and not to mention ones that had Xbox before and looking to switch boxes when the time is right(and vice versa). So I think it'll even back out after one or two months.

2009 is right after the financial crisis, i think that made the console Sales Go bad by that time, so idk If its a good parameter

Idk the impact of that in the console market at the time, this would take study

there are gaffers in this thread saying it could catch up to Ps4.

Then they're smoking the strong stuff. In no shape or form will MS catch up to the PS4. This gen is set.

What I'm expecting is a machine that completes the refocus MS has been doing. Builds on the good work they've done since that disastrous reveal of the OG Xbox One and gets them ready for the gen after this. Also being able to use the sentence the 'worlds most powerful console' in all their marketing for at least for a year or two probably doesn't hurt either.

Yeah it's kind of silly. We will see at E3 but if they don't back it up with new software and just go on about power then it's Mattrick level bafoonery.

Techically they can spread to PC Gaming.

If Windows 10 and Xbox Consoles truly merge and create a Console with M&K support, and run on a Windows 10 S-like OS, it'll support the rise of the Windows Store and the spread of Windows 10 S PCs to the gaming sector.

Which pretty much will make Steam decline in developer interest, since Windows Store policy doesn't allow apps/games to install other applications/games.

What is it about MS threads that brings out the children?

Anywho, this has taken a turn for the interesting. Bring it on MS. Couldn't be more excited.

I want some.

word yeah if they truly are just aiming to hit the hardcore enthusiasts then maybe they'll get their goals accomplished. I've never owned an xbox and even I got my set on scorpio, if for nothing else just the 4K blu ray player since stupidass Ps4 pro doesn't have it.

and I also hope scorpio's addition to the market alongside Ps4 pro further reinforces that this gen will be elongated at least till 2020.

More like real exclusives > no exclusives

(Game on PC too is not exclusive no matter how hard MS tries to push this ideology)
This isn't true man

PC is a beast of its own platform that arguably is even its own market, and as a console gamer I give meaning to the term console exclusive (naming of the term was dumb but not its meaning) so all those Xbone games that are also on PC, might as well still be Xbone exclusive games since they are not available on my console of choice, Ps4

Yeah, from the nitty-gritty of it this is my take, or, my take of their aims with this.

The other 90% of my opinion is BRING ON THE POPCORN WE GOT AN E3 OF BOMBS, BUTTHURT, AND BLOWUPS TO REMEMBER COMiN'!

I remember a tweet from Phill last month saying marketing deals are not part of the strategy for their long term vision for Xbox. Does anyone have any idea how much money is spent on a marketing deal? I know it varies based on the game but even a general amount.

I am really hoping MS will funnel all that former marketing money (Fifa, CoD, RDR2, ect.) into new IPs. That is the feeling I am getting, but I guess we'll see shortly!

I'm also aware that it's not necessarily Microsoft choosing not to have marketing deals, but the marketing deals are choosing Sony. I am still curious as to where that money is going since I'm sure it has to stay within the Xbox budget.

I'm the same, I'm done with pc gaming. So console exclusive = exclusive. Don't know that there is that many of us though.

That's pretty funny if true. They basically invented them.

I mean it DOES have an effect. Having a PC basically auto decided for me that the Xbox isn't my console of choice since the games are not exclusive to their system. No point burning money when I can buy another system and have access to a wider library.

i'm sure there's plenty. most of the people i know with a playstation or xbox have either one or the other and don't use their computers to play games.

of course, the situation is completely different if you are a PC gamer. i was speaking for myself and maybe others who play games only on consoles

Jup just ignore. Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown. All possibly releasing this year.

That's cool they've been showing that same ass shit for years. I'm a fan but some of you guys it's like you have no perspective or don't remember when shit started getting stale LAST gen.

Hope Scorpio is good. Don't plan on getting one (plenty happy with my PS4 and it's lineup of games)) but competition is always a good thing.

My two biggest questions:

1. If rumored $399 is true, hard imagining they are selling it at a profit or a substantial one. What's the damage when Sony brings out the PS5 in (guess) 2019. Is two years enough time to make up for the R&D cost?

2. Also where does this put the Xbox (2?). By 2019ish I expect the next generation of consoles to be more powerful, but if PS4 Pro is the mid life console with boosted specs, is the Scorpio 3/4 life console with semi close specs to the future ?

I can't see Sony scrapping the PS4 anytime soon as it's a cash cow. Even if the Scorpio eats some profits of Sonys in the west, Sony owns Europe and Asia.

It will be interesting

If it is $399 and Nintendo doesn't get enough Switch's in stores this could be a really good Fall/Christmas for Microsoft.

Unless this thing takes a chomp out of PS4 sales, Sony's not announcing a damn thing until 2019 at the earliest.

The only one who will suffer the most at a $400 Scorpio is Nintendo. Sony still has some breathing room for pricing. This will make the Switch hardware too expensive, this shit always happens to poor Nintendo.

Sony still has the most systems out there so support is locked in till the end of the generation so I dont think Sony will react by "rushing" to PS5. Hell with a nice price drop, PS4 and PS4pro will do well for the next few years. A theoretical $199 PS4 base is like bonkers good and will happen.

Gonna be a good holiday.

$399 was apparent the moment it was revealed the CPU was Jaguar.
They should've gone for $349 in my opinion.

Nintendo will be fine even if the Scorpio is $400.
