Veronica Mars - Incest, Rape, and Videotape - Finale Discussion?

Okay, according to my anecdotal TV Survey thread at least a few people are watching this, but I at least have to start this before the finale next week. While I enjoy bitching about the Amazing Race on Tuesday Nights, I need something else.

So, considering that next week the show ends for the season and the mystery of Lilly Kane's murder is revealed, does anyone have any theories as to the killer? Or thoughts about this week's episode?

Considering where this week ended off, we're looking at resolving a majority of the season's storyline all in one place. With the rape issue out of the way (But the Incest one totally back in the picture) the videotape part just leaves things completely complicated. Really, I don't even know what to think anymore. There are logical theories for all sorts of results, and it should be very interesting to see how they wind this up.

While the show can sometimes fall into the traps set by its weekly Plots, the overall mystery and the writing of the show have been so damn well done that it's hard not to get hooked. Very simply, it's one of the most cohesive and strong shows on television, with strong acting and a great sense of detail. If the finale brings everything together in a logical conclusion, this season will go down as a fantastic one.

Any thoughts on what could occur next week? Thoughts on the result of the rape storyline? Comments? I'd offer more detail, but it's 1:42 am, and I have a job interview in 12 hours. Joy.

I think it's the best show on television right now. It's smart, funny, and has a bunch of great characters.

Of course they were planning to cancel it. Thankfully, it's been saved.

As for a discussion of whodunit, I'd like to see Weedman take the fall. But I think the murderer is directly related to Lily.

it's going to come out of you and it's going to taste so good
My wife and I are hooked on the show, especially my wife. Not sure what to make of the ending of this last episode, but it seems like a whole lot's gonna go down. So far the only characters that seem capable of murder-grade violence are Duncan and Logan's dad. Although they haven't really been showing much of Duncan's dad either recently hmm.

Well spend too much time pre-thinking this all out, as I'll leave that to my TV-forums obsessed wife. I'll just save myself the effort and enjoy the next episode.

I saw either the first or second episode of this show and really liked it..

And I've only seen maybe 20 minutes since then and I have absolutely no idea what's going on, so I can't watch it anymore, really.. :(

That one episode was quite good.. and whoever plays Veronica is damn cute..

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

Not to turn this into a wank-thread or anything (heaven forbid), but yes, Kristen Bell is incredibly cute. Amazing eyes...and I envy that dog.

Wow wow wow!

My writing partner kept talking about Veronica Mars this season, but I refused to check in because the season was too far along by the time it made my radar. Someone on another message board was selling commercial free bootleg DVDs of the whole season, so I took the plunge and I'm so glad I did.

I haven't enjoyed a show as much as this since the best years of Buffy. I loved Lost this season, but now that I've seen Veronica Mars, Lost seems vastly inferior. The writing is fantastic and engaging and trains you to think like Veronica who lives in a world of sunny high school noir. In fact, Veronica Mars may have invented the new genre High School Noir. That alone is a brilliant stroke. The show is also brilliantly cast (the guy who plays Duncan aside) and Kristin Bell is perfect. Some of the content is shockingly adult (the pilot gets right to setting the dark tone of the show) and the payoffs are almost always very satisfying.

Mystery/detective, noir (especially Chinatown and LA Confidential) and Joss Whedon fans, you MUST CHECK THIS OUT! It's also important to start at the beginning. Veronica Mars is being re-run all summer Wednesdays at 9:00 PM Eastern on UPN. Find torrents to catch up and get in on this.

And for the handful of VM fans here, here's an interview with show creator Rob Thomas that talks a little about next season: http://www.upn.com/shows/veronica_mars_tmpl/

I tried to start a weekly thread ala 24 or the Amazing Race around the 2nd or 3rd episode here, but it got two or three replies and died off. I even pulled out the 'BUT look she's HOT!' card, and no one bit in.

However, the show seemed to gain steam as the season went on and thank god that it got picked up for another season because I personally thought it was the best show on last year. It is a shame that I can not find any info on the release of a Season 1 DVD set as I think even more people could get turned on to this show with something like that out there.

I also did not back up any of th eps I had saved for this explicit purpose. (Stupid reformatting at 2AM)

Anyways, just wanted to add that I'm down with the show, and we should get a thread going when the new season starts up. Which, BTW, any time frame on that?

Don't get too excited. The main reason it got picked up is because UPN is trying to go for a female demographic and VM fits it. If they'd kept their old way of doing things its ratings would've got it canned. If it starts of next season doing ratings like it did in its first season it wouldn't really surprise me to see UPN pull the plug on it. It's one reason i'm keeping myself from getting too into the show.

Season 1 is so satisfying, strong and complete that you'd really be missing out by not checking it out. I'll be sad if it gets cancelled before finding an audience, but the constantly smart and entertaining ride of the first season is absolutely worth jumping on for.

Well I hope then, that the show wins some of the awards that it is up for, and possibly give UPN another reason to keep it on. Much like with Alias. With that show the ratings were initially pretty bad from what I heard, but because of critical acclaim (which VM has), and awards (which hopefully VM will get), ABC decided to keep the show on for prestige.

Either way, its my understanding that there was a full second season ordered so I don't see the logic in not watching this upcoming season. Maybe don't hold your breath for a thrid, but at least watch the 2nd.

I watched it, i'm just not letting myself get into it as much as I did with Buffy and Angel. So many of my favorite shows have been cancelled since then that I really don't have much faith in any show lasting too long. :/

I'm not saying it will be canned, but the ratings last season were really mediocre. No matter what UPN did they really couldn't seem to boost the ratings too much. It's lead in this season is going to be America's Next Top Model which will give it more exposure. The real test will be how it does when that show starts its repeats.
