(Very) hot take: CAPCOM should try their hand at making some PC exclusive games

CAPCOM have never been in a better place financially over the past decade, and it's mostly thanks to Steam being their biggest source of revenue.

Another proof of them feeling much more comfortable with PC gaming is their work with GOG re-releasing some of their oldest classics, DRM free and future-proof:

Also, everyone knows that CAPCOM are one of the frontrunners of modern game tech, producing some of the best looking titles this gen (the performance of MH: Wilds is trash, but we don't talk about that). With the lack of games that actually push the most modern hardware to its absolute limits (the last one we have is probably Cyberpunk), they're probably the best choice for making a benchmark that can melt every GPU and CPU like Crysis or Doom 3 did back in the day.

For what reason?

Btw i can't stand their dogshit engine. EVEN when they use it for what it was originally made for, linear af games, games have zero physics to the point of being worse in this department than titles made for the original Xbox.

How about they first learn how to optimize and fix their PC ports? Dragon Dogma 2 and latest MH were awful.
While performance complaints for these two are valid, capcom does not make pc ports for their in-house projects they've been pc first and port down to console since like 2005, even when they didn't immediately release the pc version at the same time.

Even when they outsourced SF4 to dimps, they did the same thing, I believe only their western outsourced projects (lost planet 3 etc.) were pc ports.

In any case this means that whatever performance issues their more open world projects have on pc, it's still the best running version and the same thing happened with the previous entries; both dd and mhw had awful performance on console.

There is no market for that and Capcom definitely isn't the best choice for something like that to begin with.

Cyberpunk runs on steam deck.

So after all that trouble of trying to make console exclusives going multi platform, and now you want to be cocky because of being on a superior platform, demand them to go exclusive again?

I find it funny Capcom took the bag from GOG to port Resi 1, 2, 3, Dino Crisis, and BoF IV to PC and they're locked to that store. It feels like they got Square Enixed. Why the hell wouldn't they just port these games to everything?

I just don't see in what world this would make sense. Even if they made a game that pushes a 5090 to its limits and takes full advantage of it, what's stopping them from just lowering settings and porting it to consoles to make more money? It would also make it playable on low-end hardware.

Might have to skip SX because of the SS though.

Hot take indeed, making a Star Citizen style GPU melter would be for a limited audience. Just make the regular games more scalable with Ultra/Psycho/Epic settings.

Making a PC specific game without dumbing it down for controller support on the other hand is a separate discussion.
They could make a 'Equestria at War' (an infamous Hearts of Iron mod) style game based on the Sonic Universe. "Mobius at War".

What exactly do people think devs are holding back on? We are long past the point where console hardware just didnt have the power to properly handle some of the more complex underlying game systems or world simulation.

What would they gain exactly in return for cutting 40-50% of their revenue? I don't think bragging rights from a few fanboys offset the losses.

One thing i kind of want is a racing game specifically designed for mouse control. It works super well with Beamng and Truck Sim and a proper racing game with something like that would be nice.

Fuck exclusivity. And fuck inclusivity as well lol.

Capcom should focus on releasing actually finished games.

pc-philis is a microscopic niche for console juggernauts like Capcom or Take Two!

Do not ever dream of taking on consoles!
Not according to capcom

People often forget the average PC gamer isn't on some $5K beast with an RTX5090 and 9800X3D. The 4060 for laptops is the single most popular GPU on steam right now lol.

Even if any of these big publishers were to make a PC exclusive, they wouldn't design it to only run on a high end machine and leave out not only the console market, but the majority of the PC market too. And if you are already designing your game to run on a 3050 or a laptop with a 4060 you might as well port it to consoles.

Yes Capcom makes a lot of money on PC, more than on consoles. But they aren't making it from rtx4090 and 5090 owners.

So, make a game and purposefully not release it on PS5 or Switch 2 with no incentive other than massive lost sales? Yeah, they should do that.

Being on a 4090 has me in the 0.72%

You're right, i dont want exclusivity. However, i want devs to make proper PC controls even when the game exists on other platforms.
I agree, especially when consoles these days also support mouse and keyboard. There is no excuse anymore not to have proper controls for both and make them available to all platforms.

Unfortunately it's not gonna happen without exclusivity. I'm not gonna ask for an MMO to be PC exclusive, but if it isn't i'll know it's not worth playing. Either in the name of balance, or just in the name of giving everyone the same experience. Modern MMO controls on PC are such hot garbage because of it. I'm not interested in playing a game where i have to stop playing the game to check out my bags because controllers cant handle floating menus properly so everything has to be a full screen menu. Also the inability to keybing things because cant give players more keybinds than controller users, this one i will even tolerate for in combat stuff. But out of combat consumables? Yeah fuck that, i'm not opening a full screen menu to go click on some consumable because we cant have keybinds for that in 2025. Or ARPG's. I should be able to keybind out of combat elixirs and shit and not have to put them on a radial menu. Doesn't affect balance, just let me do it.

The only conceivable reason for them to make a PC only game is if it was something like a new Monter Hunter MMO, but they'd probably try to shoehorn something like that to fit consoles anyway.

They just need to learn how to optimize their engine for open world games, they're trying to brute force it before their engine team can actually do something useful for it.
MHWilds had absolutely no need of being open world.
