Via Tom Henderson: We'll see "Launching on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC" a heck of a lot in 12-18 months

LOL you name 3 games, and one has mario ip tied to it so it doesn't even count. So basically mine-craft and monster hunter which is long established being on nintendo systems. Being late ports hasn't really stopped nintendo games from selling gang busters on switch. The problem with nintendo it been generations of weak thirdparty support and those third party franchises are establish on Playstation/pc. elden sold 10 million on playstation consoles and sekiro over 5 million. point is 3rd party will develope for switch but it's not gonna be a priority since switch hasn't proved itself as a thirdparty selling machine like playstation or PC.
When your original statement was "not even one third party game sold over 5 million", I'm not sure what is so lol-worthy about them proving you wrong.

Switch 2 won't be a priority for most of the biggest games. But with around half a billion third party games sold on Switch (not including digital-only titles) it has definitely proved itself a third party selling machine.

My main point was people saying developers are gonna start prioritizing switch and cut back graphics when switch has been a very small part of those Big AAA game sales. just look fifa sales on switch on to get a idea.

It don't think developers will be cutting back graphics for Switch 2, just like they won't for Steam Deck. They'll scale their games for multiplatform development.

At this point its pretty clear that Sports and FPS games won't be particularly strong on Nintendo's system, while other genres like platformers, RPGs, Metroidvanias etc. can do very very well on the system. So it will depend on the game in question.

I differently see kid friendly looking games do much better on Switch. Look at dbz fighterz sales vs mortal combat 11.

I just hope that after finally getting out of this terrible crossgen period Switch 2 won't be the new shackle that prevents the nextgen leap in games

I think it depends more on how big the graphics/features difference is.

For example, in Europe Switch was the 2nd best platform for the GTA Trilogy (just behind PS4), probably because the difference between those versions is not that big. We also see that with indie game launches in Spain, which almost always lead on Switch regardless of the age rating.

Meanwhile FIFA is a kid friendly series that didn't do that hot on Switch, likely because it kept getting "Legacy" versions and the audience has been built on PS for many many years.

So it will be interesting to see if the Switch 2 being closer to PS5 than Switch was to PS4 will make any difference to third party sales.

Switch 2 will hopefully breath some much needed new life and excitement into this industry.

Also hopefully Sony (and MS) gets their shit together soon and shows the world what the hell is going on with PS5 (and Xbox) past 2023.

Didn't Nintendo just release a list of every game that sold 1 million and I think there wasn't even one third-party game that wasn't kid friendly on the list. I didn't even see gta trilogy.

No. Nintendo only releases sales numbers for titles they publish, which sell over 1 million.

Third party titles aren't included. That's why GTA, Dark Souls or SMT V aren't on the list, but Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3 are.
