In reality in that debate he was pretty much walking on egg shells and did everything he could not to come off as overly aggressive. I don't remember anyone expecting him to attack Palin. Most people knew he just had to not look like an asshole.

They were saying that it's bad form to be "mean" to a woman, which may have played a part. But attacking her would have been on the level of attacking a child. One of the first things she said during that debate was that she wasn't going to answer the questions, she was just going to spout what she had memorized. I think it was clear to Joe that it was clear to the world she was a fricken dummy.

Biden has the terrible habit of saying enormously stupid things. Ryan is not Sarah Palin either. In the end, it's all irrelevant because the VP debate plays second fiddle to every presidential debate.

The way I see it, the only way this debate will have a real impact is if Ryan is cornered enough by Biden to misspeak and say something incriminating enough to use in attack ads. That's the only outcome that will move something in the polls. Nobody will care if either of them "wins" the debate, or if Biden puts a foot in his mouth.

If that's how it will play out, we'll have a very aggressive Biden, which should at least be entertaining.
