Just of curiosity .. did this ever happen ? because i think Max Payne 3 is the best game of the series "gameplay wise"

I never played MP1 or 2, but I highly doubt that.

3 was a piece of shit. 10 seconds of firefights with 10 minutes of shit monologues, cutscenes and LSD effects

While it doesn't surpass the original games (okay, it surpasses IW), Deus Ex: Human Revolution is equally as good as the earlier games (in most ways). And that's some feat.

Also, I seriously hope nobody in this thread says "Silent Hill: Shattered Memories." I love SM, but... no, it isn't up to the quality of the "Team Silent" SH games.

Bioshock 2

Only a half correct answer.

Much to the chagrin of irrational (lol) Bioshock 1 fanboys, Marin was founded on some top talent who left 2K Boston (who later reformed as "Irrational Games"), and the game was directed by one of the top designers on Bio1 (guy who designed fort frolic) and was designed by over half of the level designers on Bio1. This isn't even mentioning the entirety of 2K Australia, who was 1/2 of the original Irrational Games who also worked on Bio1, also worked on Bio2 as well.

Also how in the hell does New Vegas count? Obsidian was founded by a lot of the talent who worked on Fallout 2... Fallout 2 would be a good answer though. IIRC not a lot of people who worked on F1 worked on F2.

Dead Rising 2 is kind of an asinine choice too considering a lot of what they did in that game kind of tears down a lot of what made Dead Rising work, but I guess because it's easier some people consider it to be "better" or something....

They took away the photo grading and made the game a little easier, but the MacGyver-esque weapon building functionally made a lot of sense in the Dead Rising universe. It was a great addition.

Vs the crippling of the clock with the new save system, broken survivor AI, broken progression due to said weapon system, and worse bosses on basically every level.

DR2 is worse than the original in basically every way. It's still a good game that imo is def worthy of the DR name, but better than the original is quite the stretch.

You think you're passive aggressive enough there, buddy?

Arkham Origins. Arkham City was a game with a lot of potential, but in the end, it felt like a disjointed mess. AO was less innovative, but more fun and more of a cohesive experience.

I don't remember there being broken survivor AI or how the save system broke the clock, but it has been a while since I've played DR vs. DR2. I do recall the AI being far more capable in DR2, perhaps to a fault.

The most memorable bosses in DR1 to me were the Adam the Clown and the guy in the grocery store. Almost everyone else was pretty forgettable. In DR2, I liked the motorbike guy, the twins, and the toystore mascot. They seemed comparable, but again it's been a while.

I think it's the probably one of the closest examples of any second-hand developer coming close to surpassing the original.

i would agree that KoTOR2, with the Restored Content mod, is fantastic. even without the KoTOR1-styled twist
