Video of people being round up by the CCP for their political beliefs

Honestly fuck the Chinese oligarchy. Free religious and political expression is not allowed there. Did you know that the Chinese government closes down and literally razes churches not in line with the party? There is also essentially two catholic churches in China, one that is controlled by the state and another that exists underground and is actually in accordance with Rome. However (and this really pisses me off), the Vatican allows this and recognizes the state controlled churches instead of the underground ones. The real faithful are being abandoned. Religious persecution is a very real and tangible thing in China as those not in line could be arrested or even worse. Toeing the line and bowing to an evil regime to try to protect some of the faithful doesn't justify abandoning the rest who actually put their lives on the line for the Church. It astonishes me as a practicing Catholic that they would do this as it goes against our very beliefs.

Then there is what is happening with the Uyghur Muslims. They are actively trying to destroy a people and faith with them by sending the Uyghurs to "re-education camps" and putting subjectong them to torture and forced labor. Sterilization of these people and forced abortions on their unborn babies is also happening.

Mass media surveillance is everywhere and freedom of speech is non-existent in China. I absolutely hate that such a beautiful land and peoples are under the control of tyrants with no respect or decency to the individuals that they govern.

The Vatican has been compromised for hundreds of years.

I just did a deep dive on the terrible shit that goes on at the Muslim concentration camps. I am upset that I did not hear more about this.

I don’t understand why more people don’t talk about it. It is literally modern day Nazis. If we ever find out the true numbers to this I think we as a society are going to feel ashamed that we let this happen.

Don't get me wrong, while I hate this deal that is going on with China and the Holy See, I still support the Vatican (but I am definitely against this abandonment of Chinese faithful). I believe the Church is good and true, but unfortunately sometimes the men within her can be flawed and occasionally corrupt, as all men are. The Church isn't supposed to be utilitarian, if you are in a sinking lifeboat with many people and you have to throw someone off to survive, you cannot kill that person even if it results in saving the others. I feel like this is happening with China and the Vatican feels like it has to toe the line to try to save the lives of the majority, but that results in the rest being fed to the wolves and that is not justifiable.

Do not watch films funded by Tencent. Don’t play games published by Tencent or a company Tencent owns. Fuck Tencent and fuck the Chinese government.
This is going to make your life very difficult because you can literally not play any game which uses Unreal Engine. Have fun with that.

Both can be right, I don't know why it's important for you to argue the lesser of two, very obvious evils.

Also - trump very openly admires the CCP
Trump is the only one publicly condemning China and enforcing punishment for their National Security Law in Hong Kong and their handling of the Covid virus. Sure it's late but better late than never. Oh and he was also the first to ban travel from China

Um, Tencent is a big time investor in Discord, and I know a prominent videogame message board which has a discord linked on its front page...

Uh...no? Boris and Treudeau both openly condemn the HK push and support HK. And yes, he was the first to ban China but mostly to continue to flex the shitty treaty decisions he's been making.

It's not enough to just be critical of China, though, we're in a very co-dependent relationship with them and Trump doesn't seem to have a lot of good ideas about how to solve any of these problems or even what exactly they are. He looks at tarriffs like they some form of collections, but he doesn't seem to actually understand what they are or who pays them or what the long term effects are.

It would be nice if there was someone who both wanted to stand up to China AND had a functioning brain, but I don't think that person is running for office this year.
You dodged the question so I will ask again, how exactly were these tariffs so bad? They seem to be a particularly effective tool at getting China's attention, and despite the constant crying from the media, our economy grew despite their existence and the blowback from China.

If you aren't even willing to pass as simple as a tariff, than don't pretend that you care about what China does, or that you want someone to stand up to them. You were given an opportunity to do just that, and you turned it down

No one's calling trump a nazi. They (the poster I'm referring to in this thread) are saying he has a nazi-like regime, which when broken down just means he has a racially charged agenda.

If you need help to understand how "build a wall to keep the mexicans out", "good people on both sides" and "caravan of rapists and looters" isn't racist, I can't help you further.

How is protecting your country from illegal immigration a racist thing? You don't think that people willing to enter a country illegally are more likely to commit crimes?

I really think this is bait, there's no way you can be this dense.

This dense? I live in Brazil, I know the people that go illegally to Europe and the US. Believe me, most don't function even here.

And guess what? We too have problems with illegal immigration, people from poorer countries of South America and Africa, people that come to live off of social programs, people that simply don't want to work, people that end up in the street, blaming their poor conditions on the country they immigrated to, building up hatred towards locals, higher rates and chances of committing crimes... it's a reality.

I'm not saying it's a rule. Some people are hard working and just want better opportunities in life or to provide a better living to their families, I can relate to that, I can support that. But that's not the majority, which means it's a huge problem.

You don't think that's the case?

I don't think tarriffs are automatically bad but I also think Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that the doesn't know what they are or who pays them. He repeatedly talks as if they're China giving us money rather than a tax that American consumers subsidize in order to discourage people from buying cheap products.

So they're not really great leverage, especially considering our underlying dependencies on Chinese goods. They're unlikely to push people toward domestic products which is usually the intent of tarriffs.

I am generally unimpressed with what Trump has accomplished on trade with China, which is not to say it's a total disaster but it probably cost us more than it was worth and I don't think it changes much and certainly doesn't ease our dependency on china which is the real reason they get away with murder.

Again, baseless ad hominem attacks. You literally take a post filled with opinions and say nothing of value.
An opinion that is clearly misinformed and worthless, yes. Your point?

there is nothing to respond to when the core of your comment was that ridiculous. Should I assume you are trolling?

Anything that shifts the market back home will be good in the long run. The only reason it will cost us is because businesses can’t pay slave wages. Our dependence is now getting a hard look, just see Barr’s recent speech. There were a lot of policies that took too long against china though, that only seemed to happen after that hk law was enacted. Like fixing how chinese companies were free from being audited in our stock exchange, or weeding out corruption. Hopefully a lot more policies follow suit

You know what I find interesting, if we were in China, the media would be telling us that these are protesters who need to be arrested and rounded up because they want to take down our great government, and the people believe it.

I don't know if that's true, though. I don't think we really want to be in a race to the bottom on low paying manufacturing jobs.

Obviously our dependency on China leaves us vulnerable as well. I think if we had better relationships with other countries right now we could have a lot more leverage -- this is what happened with the TPP, which would have been a lot stronger (in both good and bad ways; I wasn't a fan of the TPP but we had a lot more leverage then than now).

Trump is good at blowing deals up and saying he's going to negotiate something stronger, but thus far he hasn't managed to follow through on that on just about anything. He seems ironically very bad at the "making a deal" part of the process, almost as if he was a fraud propped up by his father for his entire business career who's only actual success was talking shit on TV.

It won’t be a race to the bottom necessarily, the goods will just be more expensive. Maybe we can move companies to other countries instead of china, but that still leaves them open to IP theft or other issues. One thing is certain, we’ll have to give up some comfort if we’re going to stop doing business with them, and I don’t mind that

Its amazing how manipulative the media is. Looks like XiNN, MSDNC, WAPO, and all the rest of the garbage so called Main Stream Media in the west is so similar to the CCP propaganda. Its like all these media companies have learned from Goebbels.

Which is fine if we have a thriving middle class but we've been squeezing people and moving wealth to the 1% for so long that people are just paycheck to paycheck now. A few shitty manufacturing jobs in a declining sector are not going to change that either.

It just feels like there's a lack of vision. Trump is good at telling other people what they're doing wrong but he's terrible at doing better himself. It's why there are always all those tweets of him yelling at Obama for stuff he ends up doing later.

I saw that Chris Wallace interview and he loves him a softball at the end about "What do you want to be remembered for," and he says "That I was very mistreated" and launches into this long pity party. He has no positive vision for anything it's just defense.

His whole campaign has become this fantastical culture war against a left wing boogeyman that he alone can quash. I mean think about the fact that he had to abandon his campaign slogan of "Keep America Great" and go BACK to MAGA like his isn't the incumbent. There's just no substance to the guy.

To be fair, the amount of hate he gets is substantial, and the media never says anything good he does.
I kind of think he wants that, though. He's the Troll King. He thrives on conflict and negativity, and he's very good at holding the spotlight in that way, but what do you DO with that? You can't run a country that way.

He's basically the conservative white dude AOC. Great at getting attention and pandering to the base/riling up the oppositon, but with none of the political savvy to actually get anything done.
