Edit: Thread title has been changed and I am okay with that.

It's a complex issue and one that needs to be discussed. The video shows a difference in how people react based on the race of people committing was appears to be a crime. The disparity is so absurd that when the white group of actors are committing a crime that 2 people call the police, not on the white actors, but on a few black people that are sleeping in a nearby car.

This video makes me sad. I would be on my cellphone right away no matter who was doing the deed (not the sleeping lol).

Sad video. Those people towards the end of the video are bs'ing, they would have let the white kids get away with it.

I also have no clue about what the hell the OP is talking about.

It has nothing to do with sleeping in cars?

Yeah, the video had nothing related to someone sleeping in a car at all right? /s

In any case relax, the OP title is fine, look at the video, thats what the thread is about.

Why did he have to make a stupid misleading thread for the video though? What does that prove? It's why mods frown upon it so much, it benefits no one.

This is why when I was doing shenanigans as a teenager I'd always have a white person around me. It was like an instant get away with it pass.

I went to an all white school for one year and the amount of shit that went down without anyone getting arrested was SHOCKING (including open cocaine sales in the school hallways with a group of known dealers who never got in trouble. The vice principal told them to not make it so public or he would have to stop them).

Concepts like white privileged can be uncomfortable to people that do not feel they have benefited from it, but it is deeply ingrained into American society. People are looked at differently based on the color of their skin.

Laying down sleeping is some form of robbery preparation? How does a brain even connect those two?

Are they white?

Assume the best case scenario.

Are they black?

Assume the worst case scenario.

There you have the subconcious processing of most modern Americans, regardless of their own race.

When it comes to graffiti, i can't remember if i've even seen a black guy doing it. When i was like 18 or 19 years old and did that stuff there were only white dudes doing it.

I'm a little suspicious of how every time I watch this show their hypothesis always is confirmed in such stunning fashion. Makes me think they set it up to get exactly the result they were looking for.

It could be the editing. I mean they only show what they want to at the end of the day. But I don't think it's really "set up". If it were, the white kids would be wearing preppy clothing and the black kids would be dressed thuggish. But the wardrobes were exactly the same so the overall image didn't really change between the two scenarios.

Different people react differently.

Could have just gotten a bunch of non-assertive individuals first.

Hard to say how they would have reacted in both situations.

I don't follow, the suburban/rural kids were clearly making a social commentary on the destructive nature of hip hop culture, whereas the urban kids are likely to deeply involved in the culture to know the difference.

And don't even get me started on those sleeping guys, should be working to pay for that expensive car loan rather than sleeping and contributing nothing to society smh

Yep. Studies show that even black American children have strong biases against blacks. I think there was a study where even the black children almost always pointed to the white doll as being the beautiful, rich, or popular girl and the black doll as being the opposite.

The media creates black stereotypes and even blacks aren't immune to buying into the message.

It amazes me that so many people are completely oblivious to this fact.

Props on Kim for trying to talk the kids from up close and in such a calm manner, the increased calls to 911 doesnt bother me as it could be attributed to many things, like a different set of people, the previous presence of the white group increasing awareness and putting everybody on the edge. Its the obvious fear of the black group and avoidance of direct confrontation that disturbed me the most. I bet those old guys that tried to pick up a fight with the white group would run away scared.

Oh yeah, pretty neat on the white lady to admit certain bias when asked about it.

I'm mixed race and a couple of days ago in a clothes shop security decided to open up the curtain where I was trying on clothes for no reason. A staff member obviously told him to watch me. It's a joke!!!

Segregation produces this kind of behavior. As long as white or black neighborhoods exist these stuff will continue to happen.

Only difference is the black kids had their hoods on.

Yeah, it's a seemingly minor difference, but still relevant. The black kids seemed a little more mischevious, they take more joy in messing up the car, kicking it, swaggering about. If they had their hoods down and went about it more soberly, I think there would be less of a difference in calls. There would also be less of a difference if this was a mixed neighborhood to begin with. While the video brings light to everyday racism, it's still a set up
