Video: Why Can't Blacks Get Over Racism? Because It's Still Happening

That's even worse :(

Yeah, it's a seemingly minor difference, but still very relevant. The black kids seemed a little more mischevious, they take more joy in messing up the car, kicking it, swaggering about. If they had their hoods down and went about it more soberly, I think there would be less of a difference in calls. There would also be less of a difference if this was a mixed neighborhood to begin with. While the video brings light to everyday racism, it's still a set up

This has gotta be a joke post. More fun? More swagger? Jesus. I mean they're destroying a car. That little shit shouldn't even matter.

What would happen if you do the same experiment in a black neighborhood? Would they get as many calls on the white teens as they did for the black teens in this video?

Please explain, governor.
I'd love to gain more understanding of how we can ascertain the different levels of enjoyment when destroying a car, given that this apparently matters.

Is it body language, perhaps?

I just want to get this on record: there are people here who will argue young white males are viewed with the same suspicion level as young black males, across racial lines? Get on record, I want to know what I'm dealing with here.

WTF do this shows producers think they're doing tying up the authorities by dealing with this farce, taking 911 calls and such? Irresponsible IMO.

They always let the police know what is going on, so they can expect calls of whatever experiment they are doing.

Yeah, I've seen this and other clips from that show. Never fails to infuriate me. I try to avoid it, otherwise I have a chip on my shoulder the entire day.

I'm not saying it excuses the racism that was uncovered, but yes, how the actors behave will affect how people react. I was just pointing out that there were some differences to begin with: The fact that they had their hoods on and were kicking the car and the experiment took place in a predominately white neighborhood.

The makers of this video knew what they were looking for. That's fine, the point they prove is still valid. It would be nice to see a more scientific approach, that's all.

You kind of proving another point. That black males are seen as aggressive. No matter what they do.

I'm sure that, in that neighborhood (where people that were fucking SLEEPING IN A CAR had 911 called on them) Black kids just hanging out loitering would have gotten a few 911 calls.

Your point is hard to see.

That's true. It just makes it more relevant to have the actors act as similar as possible.

I was just nitpicking the execution of the experiement. The prejudice that's brought to light is still real.

More than 2 black people that are not playing a sport is gang activity.

It's too dangerous obviously
sarcasm, I live in a majority back neighborhood that is upper middle class.
A serious wtf goes out to these people calling 911. Let the kids to what they want, the car was crap anyway.

Yeah, it wasn't aggressive enough how those white guys only broke into the car with a slim jim, spray painted it, jumped on it, and told passers by that they didn't know whose car it was. What would have gotten them more than a single 911 call in those three hours - was if they had their hoods on.

Different people react differently.

Could have just gotten a bunch of non-assertive individuals first.

Hard to say how they would have reacted in both situations.
That's what I thought, it's not a fair test if two elements of the social experiment are changed.. But there isn't really a way you can do it fairly however.. A robbery though.. They're sleeping in a fucking car.. What

They needed skittles

Lol, you got me there... I guess I just find the tone of the clip to be a bit obnoxious and wanted to point out some minor flaws of the experiment

The funniest thing is, whenever a discussion like this is brought up, there is always a segment that claims Black people are looking for racism where it doesn't belong.

You literally can't point to racism without being accused of being over-sensitive, even when it's blatant.

No one is crying about the existence of this kind of racism (if you are Black you have no choice but to get used to it) but when shit like this happens and there are people that try to tell you that you're wrong and reaching, that is what is upsetting.

Word.

But lol @ Kim getting spray painted. I liked her, though. :-D

That is the most insulting shit ever. I have more respect for a dude putting a noose in a tree then some one that makes that argument.

Racism barely exists anymore.

Would they have posted this video if the black kids got the same or less amount of calls than the white kids?

You have to think, are the true racists the producers of this video?

I think the problem stems from the image that rap music paints in the minds of the general public. I think people associate clothing with the type of behaviour more than skin colour.

The black people sleeping thing was pretty bad, but I don't think it's very useful to analyze peoples' reactions to a crime.

Some people just like to go about their business, or stare.

I don't understand why people do this.

Now, lets take the same experiment into a predominately black neighbourhood and see what happens.

That's what I was thinking. Not so much that the scenario in the video isn't accurate, it's just incomplete. For the test to be thorough, they need to see what happens when 3 white boys do the same shit in a black neighborhood.

I'd be interested in seeing the same set-up, but in a predominantly black neighborhood.

Something I've always found interesting is, as has been pointing out, people saying that Blacks/Browns are looking for racism where it's not actually in existence. Saying they are pulling the "race card."

What Whites don't realize is that saying somebody is using the "race card" is actually using the ultimate trump card in discussions about racism. A Black man's legitimate complaint about a racial issues can be thoroughly dismissed and destroyed by simply saying that man is using the "race card."

It's odd, but the only people that have the ability to really play the "race card" is the dominant individual in the discussion.

nothing about this experiment is particularly scientific. they didn't control for many factors that could have influenced the results. however, the experiment is very suggestive. what's more, i'm confident the point they're making is true, and a more scientific field experiment would probably confirm it.

One thing I didn't like is how differently the white and black kids are dressed when doing the graffiti.

All of these posts...watch the other video that was posted in the thread later. It shows a more complete version of the white kids vandalizing the car. They were there for more than 3 hours and at times their hoodies were up. They also jumped on top of the car. These excuses are ridiculous. The black kids look more mischievous??? WTF?

How would that make this more complete?
