I don't recommend it at all. A bit more convenient and has updated graphics, sure, but 999 is a worthy experience on DS alone. iOS doesn't do it the slightest justice.

Removes all puzzles (as well as some -rather important IMHO- character interaction that takes place during them), arguably gutting the game's pacing, and also plot reasons.

Talk about a shoddy port job that completely butchers the game.

So far, it looks like I'm going to end up purchasing GAA and hoping I can play through most of it despite not knowing all the kanji since it seems like VLR isn't worth playing on its own. I've still got until the 16th to decide though, so I'll be checking this thread out in case some other people share their opinions as well.

I'll probably pick this version in the future due to this. I'm not exactly in love with the puzzle sections and I have dropped the game like 3 or 4 different times due to the glacial pace of the text and the interruptions of the puzzle sections.

In fact, and now that I mentioned this, I think I rarely pick up VNs with games segments. I want to read and enjoy the story, damnit. The only two I managed to finish (and I cheesed my way in the first one) are Tears to Tiara and Aselia the Eternal, and even then, only three or four of the multiple endings it has. Didn't even got to the middle point of Yumina the Ethereal even though I loved everything else abou it. I'm hoping that's not the case with Seinarukana, since I'm really, really interested in that one due to the fact that it is the sequel of Aselia :(

I like the port, as someone who played it on the DS first. As a first experience, I wouldn't recommend it, but it's not awful.

Yeah, the IOS is hardly some crime against humanity. The DS version is ideal, but the IOS port is actually a decent way to experience the game. It fixes a lot of the structural and pacing problems of the original version and the loss of the dual screen isn't nearly as significant as some people would have you believe. The biggest loss in the IOS version is actually the conversations in the puzzle rooms that you miss.

Agreed. The iOS version was a nice way to recap the story without the need for the puzzles.

As a matter of fact, MG's announcement was indeed related to Gakhtun!

The game will come to Steam, completely uncensored and in its original form. Awesome stuff.

(Btw, no link to it because I'm at work)

MangaGamer's Gakhtun announcement:
As some of you may have guessed, our “shocking” news was that Liarsoft’s Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning is coming to Steam! You can pick it up on Steam in about four hours for 15% off! The content of the Steam version of the game is identical to the version available on our website. The only differences between the Steam Edition and the version available on our site are the inclusion of ratings information a few minor cosmetic changes to differentiate versions. The Steam Trading Cards for Gahkthun also feature some new artwork not found in the game!

As a thank you to early adopters of the game, we will be providing you all with complimentary Steam keys! If you picked up Gahkthun at the original $44.95 price, you’ll be getting one! Due to ongoing concerns about fraud, we won’t be able to offer complimentary keys with future purchases of the title.

The story of Gahkthun is an exciting tale of steam-punk fiction, which follows Nikola Tesla in a 19th century world drawing on the Lovecraft mythos. Armed with his electrical inventions and keen intellect, Tesla infiltrates an academy city, The Academia, in pursuit of secret society that is using the students to develop and test fearsome new technological powers. Written by Sakurai Hikaru, author of Fate/Prototype, Gakkougurashi, Game of Laplace, and Fate/Extella, Gahkthun holds countless mysteries to uncover within its action and intrigue.
Nice, I even get a Steam key. Hopefully Steam sales give the title a boost because I'd really like to see more Steampunk games get localized.

Wait, WHAT!? 4 hours? Way sooner than what I expected lol.

Apparently they were going to launch it with the announcement in 4 hours, but put the blog post up early because people dug up assets on their websites that leaked the news. Which I how I presume you learned about it?

Actually I read that off Elliot Gay's twitter (RyugaSaotome). He was the one who mentioned the release on Steam.

Grisaia Update #51: Monthly Update #7

Hello Backers!

Here’s another monthly update for Grisaia.

Work on Labyrinth is progressing well. However, bugs and technical issues resulting from the PSVita -> PC conversion have caused somewhat unpredictable delays. Sometimes it's hard to notice things that have gone missing or broken in the transition, so we need to be careful and methodical in the debugging process. We’ll post another update once we’re getting closer to nailing down a release date.

Work on Eden has also started - it’s about 20% translated, and we will be reporting more progress on it on the next update.

A note on the unrated versions... work is ongoing, but the original "one month" production estimates we posted earlier will probably be unrealistic, owing to a variety of factors including engine differences, additional translation, and QA work. However, translation work on the unrated version of Labyrinth has started and we will start posting updates once the Steam version is released.

Finally, PSVita news! We have our devkits and hope to throw a build on it soon to do initial testing.

Doesn't this have tentacle porn?
Buying day one, nevertheless.

Yeah, I don't understand the thing with Gahkthun. Doesn't it have adult scenes ? Is it ok to have mosaic censored games on Steam now ? And what exactly are these few cosmetic changes ?
I can't wait to have VN Gaf feedback on this one, as maybe I'm reallly weird but I won't buy a censored VN even if the censored content don't appeal to me.

One that's a spoiler. Two if you play it it isn't exactly tentacle rape. You'd have to play to understand. It's very understandable to interpret it as such tho.

The cosmetic changes are just insignificant things for them to have the title considered something separate from what they've been selling on their store for ESRB purposes as the ESRB does not allow any adult content to be displayed on any product pages for games rated Mature or lower. MangaGamer actually had to remove all-ages titles from their own store because of this. That's also why Gahkthun is called "Steam edition" on the Steam store.

Gahkthun has adult scenes, but no mosaics or genitalia.

^What saved them is that there is no depicted genitalia and very few scenes(at most 4, iirc), probably.

tentacle porn you say?

I'm not sure I want Gahkthun.

On more serious note, is it actually good?

It is actually pretty good! As for that scene, it's thankfully not that long and it's kept ambiguous all the way through (we had a discussion about this a few pages ago)

Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning Steam Edition is out. Lower price than I expected, and not a 1:1 for EU. Grabbed right away.

Well I went ahead and bought the Gahkthun Steam edition. I really enjoyed Sekien no Inganock so I'm hoping that I'll enjoy Gahkthun too.
