Gem system is messed up and imbalanced towards people willing to pay2win.

DLC situation was a disaster on consoles.

Game in general is not anywhere near as balanced or solid as say takken 6 or original sf4.

SF4 wasn't really that balanced.

SFxT has its share of issues, but a lot of it stems from the fact that the community didn't like the fact that there was a lot of turtling and timeouts occuring. Also, some of the characters are straight up garbage and the fact that it shipped with 12 finished characters on disc locked away for 3+ months and costing another $20 didn't help either.

A lot of the mechanics are really fun and there's some interesting stuff there. I wish SF4 played more like SFxT; the tech rolls eliminate the bullshit vortex stuff from the higher level SF4 play and the juggling mechanics seem fresh for a SF game.

I picked it up on Vita for the hell of it, since I had a $10 amazon credit and if I discount the price of the costumes and characters it will unlock for me on the PS3 version, it's basically getting those free if I don't like it on Vita and sell my copy.

Did patches clean this up at all? Have a few buddies that play this on PS3 when burnt out on tekken. This is crossplay right?

Patches haven't fixed a lot of the issues yet, but there's basically a new version of the game being released for free in December of this year (SFxT 2013).
And yes, it's cross-play.

Thanks for the detailed info corrosive, I was curious too. Btw for others - that bolded part - it is a free patch to the game, not a ridiculous separate game SFxT v2013 :P

After putting my Vita in sleep mode last night, I turned it on just now and it said I removed the memory card(not true) and everything will be deleted. I was pissed. So, I turned off my system and took out the memory card, immediately shoving it back in and powering the system back on. Apparently everything is fine!

Yes, it's like the free AE2012 patch for SF2012 -- provided you owned arcade edition, you got the balance changes and fixes free; same in this case with SFxT 2013.

This is what you get for getting rid of cow girl avatar. :3

Whoops, double post. :X

OK, here's the thing. The whole "Social Interactions" in P4 are basically to make your personae stronger while fusing. Each character has a "Social Link" that is linked to an arcana, which is leveled up each time you interact with them, usually after school or at night. Each one of these levels gives the persona that you are trying to fuse of that same arcana a XP bonus. The higher the link the higher the bonus. So, with a level 10 SL, you can basically boost a persona's level up by about 3 or 4 times. Also, you get your teammates ultimate persona when you max out their Social Links. You could probably go throughout the whole game without doing one, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll need to fuse some higher level demons in the later stages of the game. But they're usually pretty short. They're like 1-2 minute skits and that's it.

The gameplay aspect is one part dungeon crawler, one part turn-based battle system. You enter the dungeon and you'll see the enemies on-screen and can choose to engage or avoid them if you just want to get to the next level. The fights, well, I'd probably liken them to Pokemon (although SMT series came first and it's pretty much the same). You basically want to exploit the enemies weakness as much as possible, by using fire, ice, wind, lightning attacks, to give your character another chance to attack.

Personally, I enjoyed it immensely and is probably one of my favorite RPGs if not in my top 5 games of all time.

Perfect description and assessment.

Set up an eBay alert for over a month and finally snagged a JPN copy of P4 for a reasonable price.

This will tide me over until Christmas.

What are some good PSP games for $20 or less?
With Guilty Gear being delayed 'til November and my ire over the UMvC3 debacle, I'm considering filling some of my $100 total for the October PS Store promo on a PSP game or two.

I already have:
MHFU
SFA3
Darkstalkers
UGnG
Mega Man Maverick Hunter
Powerstone
Capcom Classics (both)
Castlevania Dracula X
PJM Deluxe
FFIV: Complete
Dissidia

Persona 3 Portable
Knights in the Nightmare
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy Tactics
Mega Man Powered Up (cuteness overload)
Valkyria Chronicles 2
GTA Chinatown Wars
Half Minute Hero
Peace Walker (need this to fill out the MGS collection)
Daxter
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (original has the best story of the franchise if you ask me)
Star Ocean titles

Get the Ys games. All of them.

From the other thread:

NFSMW looks great but the only way i'm buying this is if we can launch the events on-the-fly via an in game menu instead of actually driving to the event every time,so will the vita version have such a feature?

Pretty sure the console version does, so i imagine the portable version does too

Thanks for the awesome amount of info man. I do have one question though. I haven't really played fighting games for years, and even when I did I never took the time to really dig into the mechanics and strategies... Is this a title I could try to jump back into without being utterly destroyed every time I try online?

And a bit off that topic, but regardless of level of skill, I'd kill for a p4a vita version :(

True, this is why I want to get it. I own both Sigma 1 and 2 on PS3 but ... the lack of trophies on the original basically killed any motivation I had of beating it. I know, it's sad but I am somewhat of a trophy whore. I've been eyeing up Sigma for the Vita, but I'm afraid my rage outbursts will be completely inappropriate during my lunch breaks at work. I rage HARD at that game, like screaming at the screen raging. The fat lightning boss on top of the zeppelin? I screamed until I couldn't talk anymore, for several days.

Wow, maybe Ninja Gaiden isn't your style, dude. You should go home and be a Ninja Dog.

And to further add: If you think Prinny is a good choice for you you're in for a rude awakening if you can't beat Ninja Gaiden's Chapter 3 boss.

That's what I'm noticing. The blocking is kinda useless.

Only if you're blocking too much. Block->roll->Get-up-in-that-ass->IZUNA DROP!->Jump->BBBBBBBBB->on-land-Y->Essence Attack

Edit: Of course you're playing a shit port of a shit port (Hayashit can't even port a PERFECT retweak of a game, GAWD) so maybe the halfing the frame rate is more screwing you up than anything.

It's ok but I think the problem is it queues up your moves so you have to get the timing down right - which is harder to do at 30fps. Real hard for me, but I've only played the xbox version a little. Still fun, didn't notice slowdowns or anything..just that you have to be careful what you press and when..

Despite somehow clearing the game in under 250 minutes on my first run, I get the feeling Dokuro isn't done making me cry yet.

(Great game, everyone should get it.)

I haven't played it in a long while, months in fact. Even when I did, I didn't play ranked matches much. Mostly just played in player matches with friends. It was decently easy to pick up some solid middle of the road combos with Juri; my concern on Vita is that the game actively used all 6 buttons on consoles and had lots of pairing button combinations (tags, throws, etc.)... that isn't going to play well with 4 face buttons and 2 shoulder; it's like playing SFII back on the SNES... I'm not sure I'll like it on Vita, but I'll give it a try.

But the system is relatively similar to that of any Street Fighter game -- so you can pick a lot of it up easy if you're used to playing Street Fighter games. There's the new stuff from the SF 4 engine, like 1-frame links if you want to do uber fancy combos, but there's some newcomer friendly stuff too, like assist gems that make motions for specials easier or autotech throws (if you have meter).

Do you mean compared to the Xbox and/or PS3 versions, or just in general?

General.

Only if you're blocking too much. Block->roll->Get-up-in-that-ass->IZUNA DROP!->Jump->BBBBBBBBB->on-land-Y->Essence Attack

It felt like the framerate was doing it. Either that or shitty button queueing.

Also dammit Grim, stop changing your avatar!

So, if you don't know how to play at all, it's a bad game.

Good to know.

Yeah, I'm hoping that's the case. I've only seen/read a limited number of previews, but they all have been rather positive. I do hope the acting isn't as "amateurish" as he says, as well.
I never did watch any story trailers. Definitely staying away from those.

Picked up LBP Vita and Mutant Blobs (thank you based PSN sale) last night.

Only had time to play LBP Vita due to reviewing VLR, but man is it such an improvement over the PSP version. It's basically LBP2 on a handheld.

I need to start Gods Eater or Mutant Blobs tonight... I won't get to either.

Also dammit Grim, stop changing your avatar!
It's an addiction. ): I need to go back to Dio on Wednesday and stick with him for a week because of Halloween.

Really, the main gripe I see with most of these previews is the performance lacking in spots, which is to be expected out of something this big. Obviously it's not the only thing that someone may find wrong with it, but this is one of the first time where I've seen nothing positive said.

Yeah, people more familiar with the controls have put out more positive previews.
And is that Hibari?
Yep. Like I said, I really haven't heard many gripes at all about controls from those that have played, minus the occasional 'optional touch to kill sucks', which is to be expected.

Yes, it is Hibari! I'm so excited for Shinovi Versus, I need to get my pre-order in when I get the funds, so probably around X-Mas.

i just had the sudden realization that my Vita downloads stuff at a blazing fast pace (like my PC and other devices here at home) but for some reason my PS3 crawls at a snails pace. (talking like 2mb per minute)

anyone else noticed this? could it be that they have a completely different set of data centers handling Vita downloads?

Weird, can't say I've ever felt anything resembling that when I played Ninja Gaiden years ago. Butter smooth, blocking is absolutely critical to the combat, and countering is very natural (once you get the hang of it).

Then again, might just be nostalgia speaking, as I haven't played it in a long time.

I bet you that you can't stay on the same avatar for a month.

Have you played the Vita version?

Shinovi Versus has about a 0% chance of being localized doesn't it? :(
Nah, it's got a
-10
% chance.

Yeah, my Vita downloads items much faster than my PS3 and 360. It's very nice, as a 500+MB game takes about 5-7 minutes on my Vita, while it would take about 15 or so on PS3.

I bet you that you can't stay on the same avatar for a month.
I bet I could! I just need to find the right one, like my previous Hikage one, this, or the Himari one.

I'm pretty easy to please, so based on the majority of the previews, I'll enjoy ACIII:L immensely.

I first read that as 2mb per second, and was going to say I am ecstatic when my downloads reach that speed. 2mb per minute, though, yeah so slow. My PS3 never downloads that slowly though, so I always find it odd that others experience such speeds on their system when everything else is so fast for them.

There's that nagging voice in the back of my head that's telling me to get console AC3 over it, but I'm currently going for Liberation on release. Hopefully that's a good choice...

Totally the way to go, no reason to get AC3 on release day, wait 2 weeks, till Black Friday tops and get it for $35 or less. In meantime pickup Liberation and play it to tide you over.

Crap Vitacats, I think I have to cut Lego LoTR from my buy list on the 30th. I totally forget I have Amano's The Sky preorder at Amazon and will be shipping soon. No way in hell i'm losing that preorder.

So i'm down to NLKS and Ragnarok Odyssey digital to hit $100 and AC:L retail from newegg for $30. I decided not get PSABR so I will probably get Lego LoTR somewhere on sale for Black Friday along with my P4G preorder.

Probably only SFxT. Looks great on Vita.

Elaborate?

I have torn interest between SFxT and PSASBR, yet, I've heard very little about SFxT on Vita. I've played the beta of PSASBR, so there's not much curiosity there. I heard very little about SFxT in general on all platforms, can you sell me on it?

This raises my interest and explains the "social link/sim" facets I keep hearing about. Many thanks! :0>

here's what you need to know, if you enjoy story in your games, then you'll love persona 3&4. Dont compare the social sim in persona to gta4 which is so trivial and not te point of the game at all. Social links in persona games are well integrated to the gameplay system, and more importantly, they're really well written and just fun to watch/read.

Here's how the social sim go, you're a transfer student who just arrived to the small town in the game, and as a student, you have your daily schedule like go to school, pick extracuricular activities like sports or art club, join student council etc, so after end of class everyday, you got to decide what you want to spent your time with, like maybe work parttime, or go to library etc. In each of these activities you'll meet npc that you will befriend and interact with, through dialog choices, the more time you spent with him/her will increase your social links level that is beneficial in combining persona, basically making you more effective during the combat portion of the game.

Its unlikely that you'll finish all character stories in first playthrough, unless you find a guide for it. Better pick a couple character that you find most interesting and focus on finishing them to get closure for their stories.

This pretty much seals the deal. I think I'm gonna get it for Vita. You guys rock!

After you get used to it, you'll find that Sigma Plus is actually quite responsive. I haven't had any problems at all in regards to blocking, countering, or rolling.
Anyway, here's a fresh negative AC3:L preview.

Grain of salt. Seems like he just was bored of certain gaming mechanics, didn't understand what or why Aveline was placed in a certain setting. The impressionist seemed to want immediate action, with in depth explanation at a crowded booth. Not happening. Everyone else who's played the game speaks highly of the mechanics and feel.

I have to support this Ubisoft endeavor on Vita. They are the sole studio really taking a gamble on the platform and muffins/bros, it MUST pay off. If the system is to get more effort from third parties, especially one as influential as Ubisoft - we must all do our part. If the game does well, other third parties might take notice and it could lead to more third party efforts, which are higher value and AAA in effort.

That's why I'm getting AC3L and NFSMW - they seem to be top tier and fully featured. A lot of love and dev resources are being invested and I'm going to reward that effort.
