I've realized nothing but that I still dislike touch screens lol... let me use buttons damn it ><:

my wife on the other hand has been on it all day since I got it set up.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of touch screens either, but I have to say, most of the games I've played on the Vita that have utilized them have done an excellent job. I actually like the touch screen functionality in Uncharted: Golden Abyss, even though I know most people here on GAF don't (I also love well done QTE's, much to the chagrin of "Anti-QTE GAF" Lol).

My wife isn't too impressed with the Vita, since it doesn't have anything she wants to play on it. She likes watching me play stuff though. Once they do a Mass Effect, Fallout, or Elder Scrolls on the Vita, she'll be all over it.

I wouldn't mind playing something like Fallout: New Vegas on the Vita, myself. The console is definitely capable of handling a Fallout game, especially looking at how it's handled the open world of AC: Lib.

What impresses me the most about the Vita is that, we're still in its first year, and yet I've experienced a rather high degree of impressive titles out the gate.

For comparison, I owned about 6 games total on my PS3 during its first year. Ditto for my PS2. I owned about 3 Xbox 360 titles for the first year I owned it.

On the Vita, I own 20+ Vita specific games. With an additional 20 PSP and PS1 games to play on the go. It's insane. The quality of those games is amazing as well (Uncharted, wipEout, Gravity Rush, Rayman: Origins, Unit 13, Super Stardust, Mutant Blobs, Sound Shapes, LBP, PBR, etc). It's beyond impressive to me. The wait for new games when I owned my PS2, PS3, Xbox, and Xbox 360 was horribly painful. With the Vita, I have so many games keeping me busy, with more I still need to buy, but probably won't get to until later on, that the time between new releases is a breeze.

I'm a big PlayStation fanboy, yeah, but I think the Vita is unfairly maligned and shit on by a lot of people, but the console speaks for itself. As far as Sony hardware I've owned goes, the Vita has had the best build, and the best year one software of them all for me, personally.

EDIT: @ Zulux, one of the last PS Vita firmware updates lets you turn on the option to control the OS using the buttons instead of the touch screen. It's in

Settings > System > Control with Buttons on PS Vita System (check the box)

Just stalked someone on near who only has acl in the play history, sounds like someone who just got the acl bundle to me. Message sent.

The most underused feature of the Vita is Remote play. IDNWTF Sony is doing with it. It would be awesome if they make all future games released capable of it or have devs put it in when creating their games. I asked Yosp 2 times if they were planning on releasing any new info regarding remote play but alas he did not reply. I think Sony is gonna go the PSP route with remote play for our dear Vitadodad.

Looking back on the Year 1s of previous Sony hardware (PSX, PS2, PSP, PS3), I'd say the Vita is easily 2nd to only the PlayStation 2 in terms of quality software relased over the system's first 12 months on the market.

The PS2 had some gems from its launch in late October 2000 through September of the next year including GT3 A-Spec, SSX, Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, Twisted Metal: Black, ICO, Silent Hill 2... pretty impressive considering these were all essentially exclusive to the platform as the GameCube and Xbox didn't launch until later. Plus GTA3, MGS2, DMC and FFX all arrived in the winter of 2001 so Year 2 kicked off with a bang.

Yeah, hopefully they do a lot more with that functionality in regards to Vita-PS4 interconnectivity.

Everything on your PS3 should be accessible through RemotePlay.

No idea why they don't "allow" it.
Lag? Just give us a warning screen explaining how it might not be as responsive as playing on the PS3.

True, the PS2 had a really good final portion of its first year, but I still think the Vita has beat it out by consistently releasing quality games throughout the 9 months it's been available in the US:

Uncharted: GA
wipEout 2048
Rayman: Origins
Unit 13
Gravity Rush
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Escape Plan
Super Stardust Delta
Sound Shapes
Mutant Blobs Attack
AC3: Liberation
Retro City Rampage
Jet Set Radio HD
MGS HD
LittleBigPlanet Vita
PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale
Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward

For me, this year one has been incredible already. It doesn't matter to me if some of those games are available on the PS3, because I can play them on the bus ride to work, with barely a drop in quality between the console experience. This isn't like PSP times, where the games were poor imitations of their console counterparts. Outside of some visual fidelity, the game play is exact. LBP Vita is, in my opinion, the definitive LBP game. PlayStation All Stars is so good on the Vita, that I've spent 98% of my game time, clearing all 20 character's arcade mode on the Vita, and played 99% of my online matches on the Vita, even when I was at home, and could have easily played it on my PS3.

The PS2 is definitely one of my favorite consoles of all time, but its year one library was solid, with some standouts towards the end. I'm mostly talking about software library within that 12 month period, not beyond or after. The Vita is a year old in Japan soon, but only 9 months old in the rest of the world. It's software library is beyond impressive so far. The upcoming software list for year 2 is looking damn good as well.

Holy fucking crap. I COMPLETELY forgot just how ridiculously amazing Lumines is. Needed a game thqt I can play with only one hand . Needless to say I didnt get very far with touch controls (4th level), but the style, soundtrack, integration of your playing performance into the music... omg.

And its not even included in the list above me :(

Just got my Vita. Quick question. I have PS+ and I noticed there's some cool games for free to download. I really want to play Gravity Rush, but I have a concern regarding saved data. If I save my game with the digital version, will I be able to load/access the same saved data if I bought the physical copy of Gravity Rush? I like how the game is free and everything, but if I decided to cancel my PS+ and buy the game legitimately, will I be able to access my stuff?

Second question. Can I use multiple memory cards under the same PSN profile? I'm going to use the 4gig that came with my bundle for now, but if I fill that one up and get more stuff, can I just swap the memory cards in and out until I buy a larger one?

I really wish Disgaea had a demo, I'm interested but not sure if it's my kind of game.

Pick up D1/2 for $15 each (the total price of D3, actually) and play those while cursing Sony for not giving a native PSP resolution in the emulator to where they look blurry as hell. That's more than enough of a "demo" for you.

I know its a lot of work to patch older games but if every future release came with it it would make things better. Since the Vita is part of the PlayStation eco system everything should be done with at least something Vita related inter grated into it something like what Apple does.

Are there any games that support remote play currently?

Just started messing around with near......

Managed to get to the 9th level in Lumines with only one hand. Wont be able to beat that one with touch controls though.
What an amazing game. It oozes quality.

Was it hard? Does it take long?

I'm already more than half way through getting the platinum - it's a joke once you know some easy tricks... like how you can get all the "level 3 super on a particular level" ones SUPER fast by going into training mode and just picking said character, turning on level 3 and popping it. Rinse and repeat for all other characters. You can do the same thing with the 2 KOs with one super, and the three KOs with one super.

Getting the win against a team of three bots is easy too because the AI is a joke. I've seen AI getting stuck in corners, under platforms, etc. The only real challenge, if you want to call it that, is beating the arcade mode with every character.. going through it on whatever difficulty takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your skill. Beating it on the highest difficulty is again, a joke considering how the AI is really broken.

This is considering I've been playing fighting games all my life though, I'm nowhere near pro level but I do know broken AI when I see it. I got the platinum in Blazblue: CT and it pretty much took a piece of my soul with it when I got it... Clearing score attack had me screaming at the top of my lungs because you have to fight four of the hardest characters in game back to back, while they're in their unlimited forms which means they're even harder. The worst part? If you don't hit start on a second controller before you lose, you have to start all over from the beginning. I had to spam a broken character's
Jin
really cheap moves over and over to keep them on lock down otherwise they just go into rape mode and destroy you.

A friend of mine is a psycho when it comes to fighters though and he was able to beat them legitimately with Tager, so go figure. Anyway yeah - the platinum is super easy to get, even if you don't play fighters that much.

I am onto you Shahed. 0,005 difference in the first level.
-.-''
Not today anymore though.
Edit: Wow, rank 260 for you overall in monumental valley. Nice!

216 now. I think I'm gonna leave it that though. Sure I could shave a. few more tenths here and there, but it would be too frustrating. I think I'll move onto the Pacific Rift section. Not today though.

Just finished the Carnival expansion as well. I quite enjoyed it. The developers must know how much I hate the Buggy and Rally car, they keep giving them! Still the 24 events are pretty good like. Thanks for bringing up Motorstorm, would have completely forgot about it...

I wonder what else Evolution have got in the works? I believe RC was done by a side team. Hopefully it's something Cross Play again.

Ahh one vote for each. I just tried out the trials and even though Sine Mora looks great, i loved JSR (never played the original). Especially the art style was cool. So I'm leaning towards that.

I'd trade the Vita 1st year lineup for the PSP 1st year lineup myself. Not even close. You had a GTA, Midnight Club, 2 Need for Speed games, Star Wars Battlefront II, Burnout, like 3 traditional JRPGs, a couple of retro collections, a Tokyo Xtreme Racer game, Toca 2, a handful of western RPGs (LOTR Tactics, X-men 2, Untold Legends), SSX, a Tony Hawk game, etc.

I own like 15 games from 2005 for the PSP. I think people forget how well supported the PSP was the first few years.

I like traditional RPGs, racing games, and retro arcade games with the occasional FPS or open world game. So really the only Vita games that interest me are NFS (which I've bought on sale) and Persona 4 (which I'm waiting to go on sale)

speaking of sanzaru games, do we know if the sly in psabr is the design used in sly 4? I remember looking at sly 4 during announcement and think sly design looks a bit off compared to ps2 sly and I have no problem with sly model in psabr.

Another day and still not footage of the Vita version of Sonic transformed :<

Yeah I've been slowly combing through stuff. The one guy also comments on a local news site it seems ... a lil 14 yr old racist lol.

im curious, too. Is the Vita Sonic a 3DS port? or is it a console port? Is the Sega team that handled the immaculate port of VT4 handling this?

So many questions, so few (none) answers

I asked one of the guys from SUMO Digital about the Vita game. I told him that some of us were concerned about the Vita version since we have no info, and he said:

"It's actually really rather good on Vita... [it's] one of my favourite versions of the game :P"

So...I'm excited now.

>>>>>_________<<<<<<< !!

actually really rather good

edit: I didn't even get to this part!! :

Once they do though, I think people will be in for a shock at just how good it is on Vita.

If I wasn't so sleepy my head would explode, thanks for posting VanWinkle, been curious for ages (tried poking (and failed to get) something out of them in the thread a few times myself).

I certaintly don't want to complain about the PSP's first year, because I agree that it was well supported. I don't think the quality holds against the Vita's lineup though.

Just popped in Uncharted for a bit since I havent played it since I beat it on release day and man, I forgot how damn good this game is.

This is when Sony had third party support in the sack, speaking more for their handhelds. We didn't see new IPs directly from Sony themselves like Loco Roco until 2006, but damn, so many big name titles for 2005. People tend to forget how well the launch lineup for the PSP (and 360) were. Although consisting mainly of sports games, the best baseball series, MVP Baseball, still existed and Need for Speed, NFL Street, and Tony Hawk were still relevant. Need for Speed is still around today, but doesn't have the attraction it did back then.

MGS and ZOE HD collections aren't cross play right?
kinda dumb to buy both MGS HD PS3 and Vita copies

What?

(1) ZOE HD seems to be vaporware. And I heard the HD port on consoles was bad.
(2) Konami was pretty much the first to do "transfarring", or at least introduce the idea, I believe. You can transfer your save back and forth and play MGS2 or MGS3 on console or vita (at least on PS3) so long as you don't have a game that was started before the patch that enabled it.

Ahh one vote for each. I just tried out the trials and even though Sine Mora looks great, i loved JSR (never played the original). Especially the art style was cool. So I'm leaning towards that.

IMO, Sine Mora trashes JSR. Then again, it trashes most everything. I've bought it 3 times and am considering a 4th. (Not saying JSR is bad by any stretch, it seems to be a decent game.)
With that said, get a 3 month PS+ sub so you get JSR, U:GA, GR, MBA and the rest, then spend $10 on Sine Mora.
You won't have to buy a Vita game for a long time.

Even with 2.00?

I've had the Vita since launch, and Near is just a horribly designed program. When I see VLR show as "topping the charts" and 15 people playing it, I want to see who those 15 people in my general area with above average taste are. How? The only thing I can push is the icon for the game, which then takes me to a screen that shows me as the only person who has played it.

It's a really dumb application that maybe could have been interesting if it had a discernible purpose and a navigable interface. As is I wish I could delete it and save how ever few MB it's wasting.

"

So...I'm excited now.

I just hope the game is not a prettier 3DS porting. If its along the lines of Criterion's NFSMW, I'll bite. Would be a great genre, which is underrepresented on the Vita, if the porting is good.

Is there a way to keep downloaded vita games on your pc or ps3 so that I don't have to redownload every time I want to play a new game.

Using the content manager on the ps3 when I copy over files to the vita the original source file is deleted. Am I missing something?
