Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

NeoGAF aspires to be a reality-based community. If you own (and love) a gaming system that isn't finding traction in the marketplace, you need to be able to deal with that like an adult. That means, among other things, being able to take it in stride that other people on the same forum might be having a discussion about how a given company has fucked up from a business standpoint.

Wanting this thread to be a place where you can talk directly about games or services on the Vita without every conversation devolving into sales and business strategy is entirely legitimate, but that means that anyone who drags those topics in here to bitch about them is fucking it up for everyone else. Our goal here is to make these threads better for actually talking about what you can do on the system, as well as more useful for finding out what games and new features have recently come out.

I get that, but I do want to point out that it seems odd that we are being told to deal with it like adults and take it in stride when other people fail to act like adults and continually criticize the system like they have a personal vendetta against it. They treat the whole forum like their "safe-haven", oftentimes without repercussion.

If anyone wants to contribute with graphics, give me a shout. I found the two fonts used in the Vita long to provide, and outside the logo, I'm not much of a graphics guy. Let's make this thing snazzy.

Oh wow! Can I get a link to the logo font? Been looking a while

I would love to but I'd have to start tomorrow, not near a PC at the moment. :(

I'm excited for these new threads. Eventually lin to the active tournament threads going on, like the Hot Shots Golf, in the OP so visitors knows, that there's a Vita community around that particular game that month. Maybe also have a release list of the games coming out that month and then as the month goes, add it to the games released that month list.

Now there's a fantastic idea.

We could have a vita game of the month and do a tourney and mini reviews and stuff

Again - personally I agree to a point, threads discussing the facts are welcome.

When the front page is full of threads openly hating the platform with half baked theories and other bullshit it's different.

Sometimes it just happens. If there is a lack of announcements, the sales are down, and retail is rejecting a product, there will be a lot of negativity. Some of it is based on factual reports, and replies will naturally be a mix of rational and irrational stuff. Are there people who take pot shots when something is down? Of course. That happens to everything.

There are lots of negative Square Enix threads too, and for a time there was nothing but bad news for Obsidian Entertainment. These are things I personally care for, and it can be sad to see stuff go south, with many people who don't care much for these companies jumping on the hatewagon. But they're allowed to do that. Just like people are allowed to be positive and excited about something because it's the in thing. That's just how things work.

If a thread is not deemed to be worth this forum's time, we do make an effort to lock it. Sometimes there can be a lot of similar threads at a time but they tend to die out because discussions are being repeated anyway.

It's important to develop a mindset that the front page of Gaming is not a representation of what is endorsed and supported by everyone. This is a big forum with many diverse views. Something existing doesn't mean it is what everyone agrees on. It just means someone wanted to talk about that point.

Well, I'll happily keep everyone accountable. I'd also like to image we won't see the same thing happen again, but I'll be the first to admit that we have some martyrs in the thread that are likely to set a forest fire.

The Diablo 3 thread should probably be our tonal model. There's never any ounce of positivity in gaming side threads (and I've shat in a few), but they're mostly beyond discussing it in the OT. Take note, Vita thread.

Certainly you would find one to be more toxic than the other because you would rather the platform you like isn't criticized as much and filled with negativity. As such you feel that you are entitled to complain about it on the forum. Well, you're not. Negativity is an opinion, and it's something which can be approached in a mature way. If you disagree then this forum might not be for you.
Nice. I won't take that bait!

As I said earlier, send a PM to "Aeana ; Nirolak ; charlequin" listing specific examples of where you feel people are acting incorrectly.

"There's trolling out there!!!" isn't helpful.

Thanks for writing that, really. It's helpful to see how the mods view it you know?

Either way I think a monthly thread would help anyway. Would keep everything more fresh and help to spread discussion a bit

Not 5 mods coming in here and giving us free promo and a monthly facelift/Botox injections.

I THANK YOU! You don't know how many times I have been SIDE EYING the OP and the expired and outdated info.

For the monthly thread, maybe make a February thread but include the last few January releases in the OP too? Since there's only a couple left this month. Unless there's more PSN stuff I'm missing.

Nice. I won't take that bait!

Well you've been antagonistic about this since the start of the discussion, so I was just calling it as I see it. It's not meant to be a bait. We try to cater to the interest and needs of as many people as possible, but sometimes it's just not possible to please everyone.

Yeah obviously no system gets as many games as IOS for there to be a list of all the games coming out. I mean I think it should have all the info on Vita as well as listing some PSN games to look out for. :D fluff it is what I mean cause ch... I think there is like 2 games next month for vita

Yeah I would definitely combine whatever is left in January with the February thread.

If there were any excellent games in January also feel free to highlight them in the February thread, and you can keep that "best of last month" thing going into the future if you want.

I would take cash. Cash is good. Or hugs.

I'm being agnostic because I'm seeing it as a battle of two human natures (mob mentality and coping/community) - with one causing the other.

I'm hoping I'll be surprised at the conclusion of the February thread. But given that this thread has had melodramatic bouts every few weeks... well.

My biggest issue with most Vita threads outside this one is how they just go around in circles, over and over. Very little real discussion takes place and when it does, its quickly drowned out and forgotten. Im not sure that anything in them is bannable but there are times when I felt like a thread should be locked but it stays open while people just bicker at eachother to point where Im not even sure they remember why theyre there in the first place.

That said, Im not against a monthly Vita thread. Ill have a harder time tracking it down but thats not a big problem.

Any release info sent my way would be appreciated! Need to compile all of this for the new thread and I don't wanna miss anything.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for US, too. A couple Japan-only games if we wanna include them as well.

OP would probably have to be updated regularly for PSN/PSM games because those sometimes just come outta nowhere.

Not a whole lot of it I'm afraid - sadly digital releases are often not given a date until the PlayStation Blogcast on the Thursday the week before they're released. PlayStation Mobile releases often go unknown until they actually go live.

So far I think the only confirmed releases for the US is:

Jan 22: escapeVektor (PSN)
Jan 23: Gun Commando (PS Mobile)
Jan 29: Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assult (PSN)
Feb 5: Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Feb 26: MUD: FIM Motocross World Championship (PSN)
Feb 26: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus
Feb ??: Alien Breed (PSN)

Other then that, you'll just need to keep an eye on PSNStores.com at the end of the week and update as new releases are revealed.

Jan:
Demon Gaze (JPN) January 24th
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (North America/EU, Cross-buy) January 29th

Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi (NA, PSP/PSN) February 19th
Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection (NA, PSP/PSN) February 19th (20th for EU)
Ciel Nosurge RE:Incarnation (JPN) February 21st
Persona 4 Golden (EU) February 22nd
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus (NA) February 26th

Maybe it's an effect from my ban, but I rarely discuss much in gaming side anymore, specifically Vita, barring this thread, for fear. It's sad, because I like to think I can add to discussions and would like to share my thoughts and opinions, but then I second guess myself and don't bother.

I wonder how many board members do the same?

Ciel no Surge is not a new game, it is actually an "ultimate edition" rerelease with all the DLC included.

Else, if we include Japanese releases, you're missing:

Jan 24: Monster Monpiece
Jan 31: Sengoku Hime 3
Feb 07: Romance of the Three Kingdoms 12
Feb 14: Sakura-so no Pet na Kanojo
Feb 28: Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus

Fear of what?

I just took what I saw from the Upcoming Vita Games thread. :P

Maybe we should have smaller Japanese release section the monthly OT, but only put emphasis on big releases (Soul Sacrifice in March, etc.) or import-friendly releases (have English language options etc.)

You just have to learn specifically what you did wrong and apply it. I learned that it maybe wasn't the best idea to make snide drive-by metadiscussion with this post back in April.

As per what Lyphen said, just don't get involved with the troll bait. Granted it's like having to dodge 60% of the posts.

Being banned.
There's no need to worry about being banned if you endeavor to engage other posters in respectful discussion. Dismissing others with one-liners or calling out nebulous "GAF" instead of responding to individual posters, whining about threads, etc. are what get people banned. We are trying to promote an environment where people will talk to each other instead of making drive-by posts. Do that and you'll be fine.
