I'm on my second semester of Japanese and absolutely love it. Self-studied for about a year but glad to be in classes to keep me motivated. Major is creative writing but minor is Asian studies. Hope to teach English in Japan after I graduate. :]
Edit: Ho, don't know what this top of the page nonsense means, but buy Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Persona 4 Golden, and Disgaea 3. Have a DS or 3DS? Get Devil Survivor. Honest to God my favorite game of all time.
Still trying to decide if I should import Senran Kagura or not. Waiting for news on if they plan to localize it or not. Any word on an Asian version with English text like New Little King's Story?

Vitabros, I can contribute at last! I've been lurking for quite a while and just got activated. I, like many, was suckered into the "insane Vita bundle...WOW!" and have been loving my Vita ever since.
Just thought I'd speak up and show my love for the Vita. Here's to another great year of awesome Vita games. We're off to a good start.
To spark up a discussion, I want to ask: what's the WORST gimmick you can think of shoehorned into the game? I absolutely despise stupid light puzzles and small, stupid things requiring me to swipe across the rear touchpad juuust right.
That's up there for me too but all I had to do was stand up and center the Vita to do that. I had to spend 20 minutes scanning my room hoping it would pick up some phantom light in AC3:L. The super bright light in my room wasn't good enough I guess.
This, mainly because it happened at the same spot on the log every single time.
Although light shit did have me almost throwing my damn Vita across the room at times. The best gimmick I'd say were the charcoal rubbings; I actually quite enjoyed those.

Definitively the light stuff, just annoying. I had it right up against a lightbulb and it barely worked. They should explain how it works and have the ability to re adjust the base lighting on the fly so you dont need to find something as bright as the sun itself for it to work. That one is the worst, there are a few others aswell just go down to bad decisions, like not being able to use the menu, or trying to melee a regular goon and having to use swipe to fight them.
Forgot about the cleanings, those were cool as well. Although they really got on your nerves when you were at 95% and couldn't figure out where the last bit of dirt was. It could have been a bit more forgiving but it worked.

Just got my account validated today. I bought my Vita last July and since then have purchased a load of games via the PSN Store. (I like to travel light so no physical media is worth the premium for me.)
My faves so far:
Persona 4 Golden
Got this day one. Best $39.99 ever spent. On my 2nd play-through now to max out all the S. Links. (Fingers crossed.) Spoilerish:
Hoping that Ai will break up with me soon since I made Yukiko my GF over the summer break. Couldn't bear friend zoning her a second time.
Persona 3 Portable
My 2nd game purchase after Mutant Blobs Attack. Finished it in time just before P4G dropped. Doing a 2nd play-through with FeMC. (Hated this game at first because of the point and click navigation but the characters and setting won me over after the 1st boss.)
Unit 13
Awesome straight-to-the-point stealth shooter. The shallow depth of the game world is compensated tenfold by the entertaining gunplay and very decent presentation. The arcade aspect of the scoring plus the leveling up is quite addictive. Great online coop too.
Dynasty Warriors Next
Was regretting this purchase until I made a custom party of Chie, Yukiko and Shinji doppelgängers to mow down the mooks. That edit mode and the head-banging soundtrack are probably the main reasons I keep coming back to it. Also, sweet image quality and frame rate that should be the bare minimum for all Vita games going forward.
Virtua Tennis
GAF hype made me buy this game. No regrets. I keep getting owned online though.
Hot Shots Golf
Yet another great game that I suck at. Hope to join one of your tournaments in the future.
Wake up Club
The ironic hype surrounding it prior to release was funny. But it really does work well as a social alarm clock. (And the only game app I can think of that makes me wish I got a 3G Vita instead so I could still use the social feature when I'm away from home. But! The 3G Vitas are trash though had 2 units that I had to return. Just bad luck on my part I suppose.)
And The Rest (mostly backlog)
Lumines, Uncharted, Gravity Rush, WipEout 2048, LittleBigPlanet, Sound Shapes (that Death Mode!), Rayman Origins, Ragnarok Odyssey, Retro City Rampage, Escape Plan, Dokuro, Stranger's Wrath, Mutant Blobs Attack, New Little King's Story, Disgaea 3, Jet Set Radio, MGS HD Collection, Sine Mora, Pure Chess, NFS:MW, BlazBlue CS:Ex, Mortal Kombat and AC3:L.
I love my Vita. It's great since my only computer is a MacBook Air (that can't handle current AAA games) and having a Vita allows me to have my console gaming fix without being tied to a TV.
Anyway thanks for reading this long-ass post. Please feel free to add me on PSN: omg_mjd
Looking forward to the PSN sale! If Silent Hill: Book of Memories gets a discount I'll bite.
It was the same with the charcoal rubbings for me, although less egregious by nature. Miss one required pixel somewhere and I'm basically doing the whole thing over again till it's covered. An exercise in tedium.
I could excuse this kind of touch-based busywork on the DS half a decade ago, back when it was still mildly novel, but no longer, I'm afraid.

man tons of new members today, all over the place! Welcome aboard.

Really loving Motor Storm RC. After a slight learning curve and changing the controls to the D-pad/triggers the game really has that "one more race" quality to it.
I really have no idea where the hell I'm going to drop 2:00 from my Motorstorm times if I manage to get the rest of the golds I'm missing in the Apocalypse circuit...
I keep telling myself to finish P4:G but I'm worried that if I finish and start a NG+ that my grades will suffer. T_T Should have finished it during the Winter break. Oh well here goes tonight.
it comes with
PlayStation Vita system case
earbud headphones
cleaning cloth
wrist strap
Sackboy bobblehead
Weekend Pursuits Costume Pack downloadable content
and is apparently $10 on bestbuy.com right now o.o;

Man been having trouble getting a 'space' for my Vita to fill atm. The only time I've currently playing is either in bed before I sleep or when I'm waiting for a task to complete on my PC.
The thing is that my pre sleep routine is being contested with reading/ listening to podcasts & playing the the Vita, with the Vita losing more than most.
Honestly wish I had to take some 2 hour bus trip in the mornings for work, but currently it's a 10 min drive :/
Maybe I'm just having withdrawal symptoms from the Soul Sacrifice demo. The glimpse into the future destroys the present desires.
Certainly you would find one to be more toxic than the other because you would rather the platform you like isn't criticized as much and filled with negativity. As such you feel that you are entitled to complain about it on the forum. Well, you're not. Negativity is an opinion, and it's something which can be approached in a mature way. If you disagree then this forum might not be for you.
I do agree with the intended sentiments. The mods are mainly trying to streamline the forum discussion, steering into actual content conversation.
I will say, Vita is no sales champion - far from - but it's not about discussing negativity. The Vita thread has been the sole reprieve from the caustic hive mind toxicity. It sucks, as a gamer who enjoys a legitimately fantastic platform, that is underperforming in the market. The precedent that is being set is majority rules (everyone can shit on Vita), but chin up and too bad?
I'm not trying to argue, but legitimately ask if negativity , drive by memes, hate threads on all sides (for all platforms) will be more heavily moderated?
Gaf needs to strive to be inclusive to all gamers, even those in the minority (like real life minorities not being steamrolled by popular thought)
The customization options aren't deep but it helps get me through the game's Conquest Mode with my Persona mates hanging around. Matching the voices to the characters is fun too, gives them a bit of personality.
But yeah the touchscreen stuff is weird. Used to it now and it does help mix things up. But the one-on-one duels are ridiculous. (I admit some of the finishing moves are fun to watch though.)
And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I guess I'm about 15 pages too late, but one thing I hated about AC Liberation was the poor audio. It sounded like a low bitrate podcast, I'm only guessing because of size constraints.

I also agree! But the problem is that the digital version of game is nearing 2. something GB so I do not believe that they had space constraints! Could be memory limitation.
Will we be finding out about the ps+ sale tomorrow or has someone spoiled what games are going to be on sale already? I have enough money for a couple games and if the sale has lumines imma grab it.

if there is indeed going to be a ps+ sale this week we should find out tomorrow when they do the PS+ update and let us know what free game is coming this week as well. Once again though it's best to assume the worst so you aren't disappointed when it's not amazing (just like you would for any amazon video game gold box days which one happens to be coming up on Tuesday and there is a tiny chance a vita game will be included, I will of course post about it if there looks to be a vita game on sale that day.)

Like amazon or steam I usually go along the lines of "expect the worst/ be underwhelmed, if/when it over delvers be pleasantly surprised and have that wallet ready"
I'm hoping for a deal or two to get me to spend some cash, if not I'm picking up stranger's wrath, a psp game or 2, and a few ps1 rpgs. already have $65 in my PSN wallet burning a giant hole but have held off waiting to see what is on sale this week.
Believe me it's been rough sitting on that money too, nearly bought Ys Oath of Felgana and stranger's wrath tonight but talked myself out of it because the sale is coming...
Edit: Any predictions for the free PS+ game this week? I'm assuming it's going to be a PSP game since FFT: war of the lions is dropping. But I have been known to be wrong when predicting these types of things over at r/vita
If anyone wants to contribute with graphics, give me a shout. I found the two fonts used in the Vita long to provide, and outside the logo, I'm not much of a graphics guy. Let's make this thing snazzy.
