Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

Not open for further replies.
Another recent activation here, hi! *waves*

I'm a big fan of the Vita. From the moment I saw the first screens and footage of Gravity Daze, I knew I wanted to get one. The announcement of Persona 4 Golden sealed the deal too!

I appreciate the release schedule has been a little threadbare, but rather than dwell on it, I keep myself busy by playing the games I do have. Can't complain too much when you have a backlog! (cross-posted from the Vita Wallpaper thread):

Sometimes it just happens. If there is a lack of announcements, the sales are down, and retail is rejecting a product, there will be a lot of negativity. Some of it is based on factual reports, and replies will naturally be a mix of rational and irrational stuff. Are there people who take pot shots when something is down? Of course. That happens to everything.

There are lots of negative Square Enix threads too, and for a time there was nothing but bad news for Obsidian Entertainment. These are things I personally care for, and it can be sad to see stuff go south, with many people who don't care much for these companies jumping on the hatewagon. But they're allowed to do that. Just like people are allowed to be positive and excited about something because it's the in thing. That's just how things work.

If a thread is not deemed to be worth this forum's time, we do make an effort to lock it. Sometimes there can be a lot of similar threads at a time but they tend to die out because discussions are being repeated anyway.

It's important to develop a mindset that the front page of Gaming is not a representation of what is endorsed and supported by everyone. This is a big forum with many diverse views. Something existing doesn't mean it is what everyone agrees on. It just means someone wanted to talk about that point.

I know I'm LTTP but time zones etc. just wanted to say thanks to Duckroll for this, a great post and certainly food for thought.

Looking forward to the new thread

To make the thread readable on a Vita, it would help to minimize use of animated gifs. They always seem to be present when my browser acts up.

Oh, and hi bros.

(Got a classy white amazon Vita and 32gb card. LDO purchase since I never had a PSP.)

Do you use the mobile browser? I have gifs turned off - these days a gif heavy thread can even choke my iPad. But they still appear as clickable links so you can view them if you want

Oh hey, lots of new members! Welcome guys! Really encouraging to see some new faces around here.

Long story short (lol?):

It all started when my class had a Japan trip. Ever since then my parents pay for my ticket every year to visit my Host Family in Kobe. I learned japanese I'm Japan and took japanese classes for years till I graduated high school. Exposure to the actual country helped. Lol although I must admit I do still have trouble with a few hundred kanji. But I practice every now and then so I don't forget. I am going to school to get a degree in Japanese. Since I'm fluent I'm hoping with my connections that I can give private english lessons to family friends over there. Basically I'm trying to make my next visit to Japan permanent

I'm so jealous! I would love to learn Japanese one day. I got decent at Korean but I've always wanted to try Japanese.

To spark up a discussion, I want to ask: what's the WORST gimmick you can think of shoehorned into the game? I absolutely despise stupid light puzzles and small, stupid things requiring me to swipe across the rear touchpad juuust right.

The UGA light stuff was complete crap to me as well. I spent a good couple of minutes holding it up to a bright light without much happening. I haven't had too many bad experiences of rear touchpad controls (I'm struggling to think of a game where I've constantly had to use them), but I also found UGA's front touchscreen instances pretty annoying. The machete and 'gimme a boost' QTEs were incredibly touchy I thought, where just a simple swipe should've been enough, I felt like I had to be perfect with it, which I didn't enjoy.

Not a shoehorned gimmick but a quick mention for PS1 games and the L2/R2 rear touchpad simulation, playing something that isn't an RPG in that configuration has always been a little bit frustrating as I struggle badly to find the right spot.

I'm generally not a fan of rear touchpad use in general, I haven't seen any really good justification for it.

So in the spirit of good discussion and thread improvement, my question is -

What's the best use of rear touchpad controls you've come across?

Best use of rear touchpad imo is little big planet and jetpack joyride. Using the rear touchpad to push platforms out from the screen is a pretty genius implementation, and jetpack joyride is better than the android counterpart bacause your finger is not obscuring the screen. On my phone, I have to use my left hand to play jetpack joyride so as not to block my view of the obstacles, which was annoying.

Jetpack joyride is excellent

LBP is passable I guess. Cute mechanic but you're still left reaching around in the back to see where you're pressing. even with the (not quite) 1:1 touch pad it isn't easy to quickly hit where you need to.

I've been enjoying VLR and Hakuoki, lately, and I think I may pluck away as much as I want from the PSP backlog, later this month (so far, I'm mulling over FFIII, Fate/Extra and Corpse Party). Also, I could really use some wallpapers. :o

My PSN, if anyone wants to add me: NuudleZen

Looks like I need to download Jetpack Joyride, then!

I just remembered Sound Shapes has some pretty neat rear touchpad controls in the level creator. It's not too fiddly and it does actually aid that mode because you're not getting your hand in the way of the screen and you can still see what it is you're doing. That kind of simple implementation is a product of good design and a thought out process, I think.

Hey all

Long time lurker became Junior and... Vitabro!!!

I was following thread for the last couple of days and i have one question regarding everyone playing Everybody's Golf... Any europeans playing this?

my psn is: wahadinho

For now I have:

Uncharted GA
Wipeout
MK
ModNation Racers
NG Sigma+
Unit 13 (desperately wanna try coop)
Gravity Rush
Resistance

Waiting for EBG and AC:L, and looking for someone who's willin' to play Silent Hill BoM so i can order it too :) and if Sonic All Star Racing Transformed has some good population for online, i would take it too.

Hey Zumblakladla,

Welcome to the vita brotherhood! Welcome to everyone else too, so many fresh new faces!

I own Everybody's Golf (from EU) but I haven't played the game in a while and never really tried online. For the most, I don't try playing online games (did try WipEout 2048 and Virtua Tennis 4 for a tiny bit, LBP the most) but it looks like things might change in that front soon.

We can try Unit 13 coop, I haven't tried that either.

Silent Hill BoM is on the games to get in the future list, I might get it around February. So maybe we can play that too.

Oh, if you haven't noticed, you've been added!

Love the game on the vita runs like SHIT on the PS3 for some reason :-/ awful lag and stuttering.

yeah. its actually better with ipad doing airplay mirroring to a TV than running the PS3 version. PS3 version does just look like a massive vita version though - UI is way too big. Happy to delete that.

I also got my account activated recently and posted a couple weeks ago, but looks like a lot of new people just joined as well! I'll post my PSN again since it was probably missed a dozen or so pages back. I sent a bunch of requests to the new guys who posted in the last 2 pages.

Feel free to add me: hi-fi_famicom

I own the AC:L Bundle and:
P4G
everything from PS+ Instant Game Collection
Frobisher Says
Little Big Planet Vita
MGS Collection
Sound Shapes

I'm also JapanGAF, is anyone else in superior Wake Up CLub timezone as well?

So what's the deal with having multiple region accounts now? How does it work?

Now you can only have one PSN account tied to each memory card that you own, and to switch accounts you have to switch out memory cards. Content that you download on one account cannot be transferred to another in any way.

So what's the deal with having multiple region accounts now? How does it work?

1 account per memory card. The account can be any region. For example you can have:
Card#1: US account and Card#2: JPN account.
I believe you cannot access another region's games/DLC and whenever you change memory cards(accounts), you go through the intro movie every time.
And you can have multiple cards with the same account, but the bubbles get rearranged when you switch memory cards.

Edit: beaten...

Can this be done solely with a vita? I think with Psp you had to do it through a ps3, which was annoying. So you just swap cards then?

Edit: thanks super-famicom, think that answered it.

As super-famicom rightly points out you do have to sit through the intro movie each time you change accounts. The process is not just as simple as switching memory cards, I believe, but it is not as painful as some have made it out to be.

I don't have a good guide for it at my disposal, so I'm sure a better Vitabro than me will help you out. :)

This probably isn't the right thread for this question but somehow i can't find any other relevant Vita thread.
Anyway i was thinking about importing a Japanese Vita from play asia (since i really want a white one) and i was wondering if i'll have any compatability issues with retail as well as PSN games.Would i be able to transfer the content from my European account?
Also can i choose English language for the menus?

They should be the same. Region free yo.

You can use any account- some people here were switching accounts from US to JPN and back.

Just remember that Japanise Vita has O and X swapped.

Added.

And damn there been loads of new Vita (and GAF) members recently. Too many to keep track of!

Yup, and I'm currently clearing my friends list out to make room. Haven't seen you post here in a while, either!

nice terra btw

Vitas are region free in terms of retail games - you won't have any problems playing other regions' games on your sexy white JP Vita.

As for PSN content, you just have to remember that it's one account per memory card, so, if you want to use your EU account from the start, you could do that, but you would only be able to access EU PSN content on that account. To get JP PSN content, you would need a secondary memory card tied to your JP account.

Sometimes the gaming "world" is such a strange place.. as people here probably have noticed I have been playing Sly on Vita now since sometime in December. The game is completed, review is written and I´m just doing some trophy hunting in the game.
Just got a mail from Sony´s PR department.. Review embargo is lifted on the 20th. March 2013.. that is just crazy..

More members than gamez!

Now the games will get announced to even the odds!

That was quick! I only switched like 15 minutes ago. Got sick of Lightning...

Yeah ain't been here in a while. To be honest I blame Assassin's Creed and the stupid gimmicks. Annoyed me a lot, and put me off the Vita for a while and kind of made me avoid anything Vita related. Just finished Sleeping Dogs (Awesome stuff) and I think it's time I got back in! Besides New Little King Story is the kind of game I dare anyone to play and hate. So simple, charming and silly that I couldn't stay annoyed at the Vita anymore :P

Seems like gaf activates accounts in waves.I'm a new gaffer too and am typing this post from my vita .~ Nice to meet you all. This thread is a beacon of sexy OLED light amidst a vita adverse internet. :)

Will post images of my vita pages later.PSN is Disgaea123. Current Vita games are uncharted, gravity rush, sonic racing transformed, psasbr, blazblue, wipeout, djmax, persona 4, lbpvita, and rayman orgins. I actually have a backlog of other games that I haven't even opened yet and my japan account has the soul sacrifice demo that i need to work on.

Waiting on more news for the Atelier games, PSO2, muramasa, dragon crown, god eater 2, and some smaller gems that match the quality of Dokuro. I want to see more of Demon Gaze, tales of heart and gundam breaker but their localization futures seem a lot more unsure. Personally I want more shmups on this system but more dungeon crawling like unchained blades ,and more perfect fighter ports like blazblue will suffice.

Wow... I presume it's cos of the delay in Europe but still. That's stupid

I dislike using animated gifs in OPs, so you have no problem with that.

...It didn't cross my mind to make the thread Vita thread Vita-friendly though. That's pretty smart.

Resistance, Wipeout, Unit 13 might be going into greatest hits/platinum range soon.

I see shops in Poland already started dropping prices for them to <20 euro. So either it is local sale of Sony Poland or some bigger European movement.

Nothing at all! P4G has no DLC, so you just pop the cart in and play.

Nice. I may still try and wait for the UK release, to help contribute to sales. But it's out the same day as Metal Gear Rising here. So it'll get overlooked for a few days. Which is why i thought i'd snap it up now.

So Jet Set Radio. Freebie from +, time to give it a spin...

Oh nice there is a tutorial. Good, I haven't played this ''style'' of game since THPS3.

''Do a gazillion tricks while grinding. Good Luck!''

Allrighty then.

Music and graphics are nice. The artstyle is like the game was made for Vita.

Well we only have just over a month to wait..

Wait a month for the UK release, would be my option. I was desperate - desperate - to play it, so I imported on US launch.

However with not long to go until it's released here in the UK, I think supporting Atlus in the EU is a good gesture. It's my one big complaint with Atlus, that they treat the EU pretty weirdly. But nothing's gonna change if people don't buy the EU copies of the games.

It's a fantastic game, to the point where I may end up double dipping. Just wish there was an EU LE ~

Noi - thanks for the link.
