I guess if I had to rank them:

Eden > Monsters > Shooter 2 > Shooter > Sidescroller

come to think of it, I haven't played 4am either, but it's not really my thing anyway

I have no idea what 4am is.

But I'd put it at

Sidescroller > Eden > Shooter > Monsters -- Shooter 2 left out because I haven't played it yet.

So, I got the platinum in NLKS. Took me about 45-50 hours? I thoroughly enjoyed that game, really didn't want it to end. The slowdown is only noticeable if you have around like 12-15+ soldiers in your guard, and really only when you're in town or around tons of enemies. If you absolutely can't stand performance issues, it'll probably annoy you but I just loved the game nonetheless. I didn't notice any weird translation issues, but I'm playing on the American version, I've heard a few European translations were kind of goofy but there was nothing bad.

40$ is a really steep price for the game, especially when it's digital only but the amount of content you get is pretty great, plus if you're short on space it's only like 650MB.

TOO TEMPTING TO RESIST!!

And when the hell is Tearaway coming out.

4AM was a really neat idea. Its basically a virtual DJ room where you listen to other people making music with some sounds. I had it running in the background during the beta phase and got a pretty awesome dude doing his thing.

Also, have I ever mentioned that I was at one point working on a small tool/program thing that would allow people to rate their games and find websites(currently only websites listed on gamerankings.com) that rate their games according to similar standards? I actually thought of this program just because of the stupid difference in Vita game ratings to filter out websites that rate the games like I would rate them (and therefore would be a website that I could trust for reviews).

It isnt anything fancy or particularly well programmed (I am not really good), but I should get back to finishing that. Its almost done too... since 2 or 3 months now sitting like.. 10% before completion. Guess it just fell into that motivation hole that most projects never crawl out of.

jgjvMc1ym1N7W.jpg

Maybe I should make finishing it my Vitagaf New Years resolution/promise, haha.

Anyone had a problem with the left shoulder buttons?

It sound's very 'clicky' compared to the right one. Also it will sometimes, stick. I heard if you tighten the screw near it, it sort's it out.

Can anyone confirm this?

Confirmed. And you need to untighten it a tiny little bit, not tighten.

Sound Shapes is killing my thumb and making me want to gauge my eyes out. The Death Mode is good but I think it relies too much on luck. I've got three of the albums to go on Death Mode and I think I'm going to complete it now just for the satisfaction of knowing that it didn't get the better of me. Two platinums is a bonus though.

I had the same problem with my thumb after pressing jump so much.

I found playing it on PS3 put a great deal less stress on my thumb. Also found it easier to toggle between grip/slide with R1 over the Vita's poor shoulder buttons

ugh, someone please convince me to buy (or not buy) Sound Shapes, because I'm on the fence again :\

it's starting to seem like it's not even worth the $7.50

You like platformers right? It's good, but relatively easy. I'd say just pick depending on big your backlog is. If you have a big one, just leave it for now. You can always pick it up in a year so so when it might go on sale (or even free)

In my opinion, if you are a musically somewhat talented or creative person its one of the best and most creative DD only games of 2012.

I really, really, really enjoyed its levels and the creative tools. Although I wish they would finally release more level packs. If the creative side isnt too appealing, skip it for now if you are on the fence and grab it later as Shahed said.

I though I wouldn't like the platforming but I enjoyed it a lot. The levels get quite creative and there's some actual challenge despite the simplistic controls.

MOVE a little. TURN a little. BrEaK a LiTtLe. HURT a little.

*hums*

Well the thing is I'm not a regular PS+ subscriber. I only am at the moment because I got a handful of 1 month trials recently, but those codes all expire around summer, I think.

I doubt I'll ever actually pay for a subscription. So the sale price right now is more tempting than it would be otherwise.

But thanks for the advice, you guys! ^^

I love prediction time so here are mine;

- 64gb card while dropping the 4gb and dropping every other card one price tier.
- Price drop to $170 WiFi and $200 3G.
- Tales, Ys and Zero no Kiseki released in the west late summer/early winter.
- Final Fantasy X released in November (coinciding with the 10th anniversary of X-2)
- Killzone and Uncharted: GA 2/Uncharted port in October.
- Gravity Rush 2 announced
- New IP from Bend announced
- All unnanounced PS3 first party games are crossbuy.

Edit: The PS3 Monster Hunter port itself ported to Vita and released in at least one territory.

I had the same problem with my thumb after pressing jump so much.

I found playing it on PS3 put a great deal less stress on my thumb. Also found it easier to toggle between grip/slide with R1 over the Vita's poor shoulder buttons

I was just thinking of switching to my PS3 but as it is 2am I've decided to call it a night instead. I'll continue on PS3 tomorrow now though.

I'm honestly surprised why anybody would not want PS+. Even for the discounts alone it's more than worth it. Do you just not play a big amount of games? I guess it would make sense if that's the case. Or if you don't have a PS3 also, I could see PS+ not being a HUGE reason to get it.

Well there are a few reasons -- first, I don't care for the "free" games because they feel like rentals to me and I prefer outright ownership. Second, I rarely buy PSN games unless they're discounted already, so the value proposition is only the additional discount offered beyond the standard discount (approx 30%... on some games, sometimes). Third, I have no interest whatsoever in downloading retail games, whether as PS+ rentals or at a discount or whatever.

And, lastly, I have a mental block against paying monthly/annual fees on ANYTHING, pretty much, especially when the precise service is not explicitly known prior to payment. In other words, even though it's far-fetched to assume I wouldn't glean value from the service, the fact that I have no guarantee I will (depending on game selection) makes it difficult for me to fork over the cash upfront. The only times I've even considered subscribing are when there were some really excellent sales with a lot of games I wanted, so I weighed the cost/benefit of purchasing a 3-month subscription in addition to those discounted games at that moment in time.

I actually think PS+ is awesome, it's kind of just a confluence of personality quirks in my case that lead me to not subscribe. >_<

Ah, okay. Out of curiosity, are you also not into similar things like Netflix's instant watch?

Lately SCEA has given us shit after shit month so I could see why someone would not want to pay $4 a month or whatever it comes out to. Hell if it wasn't for the old good stuff they gave out that I'm still trophy whoring on PS3 and Vita I would switch to a month by month basis.

Even so, you don't even get over $4 savings a month?

Well, Netflix is terrible in Canada anyway, haha. :P

Well, I mean, are you interested in that type of service? I was just wondering whether not wanting to play free games under a subscription extended to the same type of thing with movies, like Netflix instant watch, or with music like Spotify or Rdio.

My predictions

-Price drop to $180, 3G model is done away with completely. Bundled with a 4gb stick.
-New Uncharted gets revealed, is better than GA in every way
-Dark Cloud 3 is announced (I will ride and die with this prediction forever!)
-God of War is revealed sometime before E3 then shown a bit at E3.
-We get one big new game from an established western IP like assassin's creed/COD last year. If you're gonna twist my arm for a specific guess I'll go with Mass Effect.
-Soul Sacrifice breathes 2 months of life into Vita in Japan allowing Sony to capitalize on the momentum by announcing new games and partnerships. This probably won't happen because Sony is incompetent.
-Sometime this year we will get a month of PS+ that doesn't completely suck. I do not feel confident in this prediction.

Speaking of 2013, what's the deal with phantasy star online 2? When is it on track for? I want to know how much time I have to make room on my 16gb card.

Perhaps... I've honestly never thought much about it because of my Canuck bandwidth caps and the fact that selection here is relatively poor. Most of my movie watching comes from blu-rays I buy or borrow from my public library lol.

That would be rough :/ I love subscription services myself. I have Rdio, Music Unlimited, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and PS Plus lol.

Of course I love owning games and movies, too. I hardly ever use subscription services for movies, which is why I have about 150 blu-rays.

So I changed my mind, just can't get into gravity rush, I see it as my fault because it seem I need to dedicate my time and not play in small sections.

since then finished virtual tennis and FIFA.

Now started unit 13. The graphics are for sure better than resistance, but resistance art was better and more open.

I think this will happen but I think it will be longer than two months as the Vita gets the pricedrop close to the release of Soul Sacrifice and the JRPG lineup carries the Vita through a relatively strong summer.

Not sure why anyone thinks Soul Sacrifice will do anything for Vita in Japan. I can't even name Japan's last Z-rated original IP blockbuster.

PSO2 has a lot more potential in my opinion.

You mean the F2P always online MMO that historically doesn't move more than 200k? You must not think highly of Soul Sacrifice. I'm not sure it was given a CERO Z too. Those are usually only for incredibly gory games, or those that allow violence towards innocent bystanders.

During Q1 or early Q2 Vita is dropped to $199 permanently and price cards get a permanent pricecut too. 64GB and maybe 128GB cards are announced too.

In the E3 Sony announces :
  • FF Type 0 HD to be released worldwide September 2013 as a PS3/PSV cross buy & cross save game.
  • Monster Hunter Portable 3rd G HD to be released worldwide October 2013 as a PS3/PSV cross buy, cross play & cross save game.
  • Last Guardian to be released worldwide November 2013 featuring a surprising cross controller 2nd screen experience.
  • FF X HD to be released worldwide December 2013 as a PS3/PSV cross buy & cross save game.
  • Monster Hunter 4G announced as a PS3/PSV cross play & cross save game.
  • Vita gets PS2, PS3 and PS4 games thanks to Gaikai.
  • They stopped to talk about Agent because is coming November 2013 for Vita.
  • GTA San Andreas story to be released May 2014 for Vita, developed by other Rockstar team.
  • Call of Duty 2013 is fully multiplatform, Vita and PS3 versions feature cross play and cross save.
  • Sony buys Quantic Dream and Ready at Dawn, both recently hired stuff to create a 2nd team focused on Vita games (being God of War Vita the first one announced).
  • New Uncharted Vita, developed by Bend, features a quality jump like the one seen form U1 to U2. Also features connectivity with U4 (announced to be released as PS4 launch game).
  • Loco Roco Vita and Parappa Vita are coming from Japan.
  • Journey and Unfinished Swan get a Vita port.
  • PS4 is announced to be released Spring 2014 and includes in the box both a DS4 and a Vita, rising the cross play, cross controller, remote play, cross buy and cross play to a new level. Most of the 1st party PS4 announced games support them.
  • As final surprise Kojima appears to announce MGSV (PS3, 360, Vita). Ground Zeroes is a stand alone DLC separated prologue. MGSV is coming to Vita too and features a new level of transfarring (cross play + cross controller + cross save).

After the conference Totobeni says that Vita is saved and starts to be really optimistic.

This is ... hmm.

My predictions:

- Price drop, price drop, price drop. This needs to happen, the sale of the bundles over here has shown that either price cuts and/or "added value" leads to sales improvements.
- Memory card and 3 month PS+ sub to be bundled with all new Vitas
- 64GB card, maybe 128GB too
- Uncharted GA 2
- Gran Turismo Vita
- Some sort of Gaikai integration
- Remote Play improvements

"Unlikely but would be good" predictions:

- Game bundled with all new Vitas
- Monster Hunter title announced for Vita
- GTA title announced for Vita
- Borderlands announced for Vita
- Netflix to get off their arses and get the Vita app out in the UK

I started playing Virtua Tennis 4 online hoping to get that 3 wins in a row trophy but I've discovered that I must have been playing wrong in single player the whole time. People are pulling off shots against me that I have no idea how to do myself. For example, when I try to "spike" the ball down hard and fast from near the net, most of the time I just lightly tap it back over. Can someone explain the trick to timing swings for me? To be more clear, I know the ball has to be high enough in the air, which it is, but instead of jumping up and hitting it down I press X, but then my character just waits for it to come down and then bump it back over.

I'm no expert but the key to a good powerful shoot is positioning. Be sure to arrive early to where you want to hit the ball and hold the button. Also be sure to return the ball when it's at a good vertical position, ideally when it's at the top of its curve.

Yeah, pretty much.

SCEA has been terrible.

The game looks lovely. I just don't think it has wide enough appeal to move a significant number of units.

PSO2 has better potential because it's F2P done right and has a healthy existing base on PC.

  • Monster Hunter Portable 3rd G HD to be released worldwide October 2013 as a PS3/PSV cross buy, cross play & cross save game.(1.78/10 of this actually happen because of userbase dividing stuff)
  • Last Guardian to be released worldwide November 2013 featuring a surprising cross controller 2nd screen experience.(Let's see)
  • FF X HD to be released worldwide December 2013 as a PS3/PSV cross buy & cross save game.(Not a cross buy but will have cross save)
  • Monster Hunter 4G announced as a PS3/PSV cross play & cross save game.not happening in the Vita life time
  • Vita gets PS2, PS3 and PS4 games thanks to Gaikai.(Great idea heard some stuff about PS2)
  • They stopped to talk about Agent because is coming November 2013 for Vita.(Doesn't exist)
  • GTA San Andreas story to be released May 2014 for Vita, developed by other Rockstar team.(Way better than spending 12 million on Call of Duty)
  • Call of Duty 2013 is fully multiplatform, Vita and PS3 versions feature cross play and cross save.(bobby kotick)
  • Sony buys Quantic Dream and Ready at Dawn, both recently hired stuff to create a 2nd team focused on Vita games (being God of War Vita the first one announced). (They will buy QD not Ready at Dawn)
  • New Uncharted Vita, developed by Bend, features a quality jump like the one seen form U1 to U2. Also features connectivity with U4 (announced to be released as PS4 launch game).(Yes)
  • Loco Roco Vita and Parappa Vita are coming from Japan.(Makes too much sense)
  • Journey and Unfinished Swan get a Vita port.(No point)

  • As final surprise Kojima appears to announce MGSV (PS3, 360, Vita). Ground Zeroes is a stand alone DLC separated prologue. MGSV is coming to Vita too and features a new level of transfarring (cross play + cross controller + cross save).(Eh)

After the conference Totobeni says that Vita is saved and starts to be really optimistic.(I will eat someone face if this happens)

My Comments on are bolded

Not trying to shit on it but.....I was expecting a lot at E3 2012...I don't want anyone else to suffer.

Okay, as someone that just bought one (It has Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts, how can I say no?) here's my predictions:

Sony releases a newer, smaller version of the Vita manufactured from cheaper parts (a cheaper screen than the OLED, no doubt.) The "3DS" to the Vita's "XL", if you will.

The Vita (now strictly sold as bundles) gets priced dropped to $229.95, The "Vita lite" is sold at $189.95 with a 4gb card and a three month trial to PS+.

Sony slows down Vita exclusive software development, instead pushing PS+ and it's already existing software library. Software support outside of what is already announced will mainly be from continued PSP porting, whatever PSN games they can convince indie devs to port for, and maaaaaaaaaaaybe PS2 emulation of select titles. Killzone Mercenary will be the Vita's fall title with a bundle.

Maybe MW4 gets a Vita port, since Declassified did reasonably well and Activision can always toss it at another slack-jawed port-for-hire company (probably Nihilistic again!)

Vita will be barely mentioned in 2014, the "Vita lite" will be the only manufactured version of the handheld. With continued price drops and "buy it for what is already on it, not what will be on it" as the marketing focus. Gaikai may be the ONE new thing with it.

In 2015, it will never be heard from again. Nintendo will reveal the successor to the 3DS at the 2015 E3 show, and Sony will be silent to respond.

A question guys, maybe you folks know the answer.

My work colleague just bought a 2nd hand 3G Vita Asia Version but for some reason it cannot detect the SIM card and thus cannot enjoy the 3G feature. Is the Asia Version of the Vita locked so it can only read specific SIM card from specific countries or something like that?

We are in Indonesia.

It is locked to a Japanese carrier (can't remember the exact name, something Docomo).

Edit: I think it is only the EU 3G Vita that isn't locked to a specific carrier.

Edit 2: Sorry I read that as Japanese Vita the first time round. I don't know about different territories in Asia and 3G locking.
