Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

I really hope EDF 2017 doesn't go on sale. I just bought that game today.

I hope it does but only to try and get more people playing it online. I am fine having paid full price for it because its awesome. however once I completed it, I kinda want to just play it online but finding a game is hard at the moment.

Before I pull the trigger, ~$140 for a preowned 3g with 8gb card, FIFA and MGS HD is a pretty damn good deal right? Also I'm in Japan and have semi-reasonable Japanese skills, am I better off getting PS+ Japanese version, or the US/ EU version? It seems it doesn't matter where you are in the world, you can use a PSN account from any region right?

You can indeed! Put some consideration into a Hong Kong PSN account, if you'd like. It has a very comparable selection, but it's in English, has English titles (including some exclusives like the English version of Samurai & Dragons) and has cheaper prices for Japanese games as far as I'm aware. I suppose it's a balance of English + Cheaper prices vs. Earlier (Guaranteed) Releases. Pretty sure the HK PSN+ has Sine Mora, Dokuro and Uncharted at the moment. But I'd say the US PSN is the best value with Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Wipeout 2048 and Ninja Gaiden.

How do I backup/transfer my games and saves to and from my PC/PS3?
For PC:
Follow this guide.
For PS3:
Follow this other guide.

I must be blind, but neither of those links seem to show how to backup/transfer games and saves.

Might as well ask here, as I just got a Vita and I don't understand what is the difference between moving-copying my games from the Vita to the PS3, and backing them up on my PS3.
Are saves transfered only by backing up? Should I even use the moving-copying option?

wow thanks, decisions decisions! I'm actually happy to test my Japanese skills but I guess the retail games I get will have that covered for me. I will check those, cheers.

The Hong Kong store has both English releases and most every Japanese release if I'm not mistaken, if I worded it incorrectly! So it's a nice alternative. At least I know you could pick up Monster Monpiece and Demon Gaze immediately after release.

But do bear in mind that DLC codes are region-locked. So if you buy only Japanese retail releases you'll probably want to go with a Japanese PSN account so you can use any codes you get. But likewise, HK (asian) titles are cheaper.
Whether or not you can buy the DLC (cheaper) from the HK Store for Japanese physical releases (codes included with the game can't be used on it, bear in mind) depend on whether or not it's the same release. Which it probably is, if and only if the game is fully Japanese in its Asian release. But I'm not too knowledgeable on that, it's a chancey thing to try.

Hey fellow JapanGAF! I roll with PS+ US here. I feel it's got a way better selection of games and I think the upcoming indie games won't hit the JPN Store until later/never. JPN PS+ does get VLR though.

Yeah, PSN accounts work anywhere, but you're restricted to that region's store. The MGS collection is awesome, but you're gonna want a bigger memory card soon.

Ah I see, do many gaffers use HK then?

I don't usually care much about DLC, however I probably will give PSO2 a shot and I imagine the HK PSN won't have that.

The wait for DOA5+ is killing me.

I only got a chance to play a couple of races on MUD last night. I think it's OK so far, but I can imagine most people hating it. You need to pay very careful attention to the 'attitude' of the bike or you'll wipe out after every jump. In addition, the 'scrubbing' concept seems totally pointless. It basically encourages you to do a tailwhip every time the wheels leave the ground, for reasons I don't really understand. There's a good chunk of content and I can definitely see me going back and playing it more (I haven't even touched the 'trick' mode yet), but it feels like a 6/10 game for sure.

There is a button dedicated to 'Energy Drink'. Make of that what you will.

a backup is one file with everything on your memcard. Its for if you are trying something that might go wrong and can restore the entire thing.

To do individual apps you need to go into the apps section and choose the games you want to back up and click ok. Anything backed up this way can be individually restored.

Due to the nature of the save files, yes backing up a game backs up the save with it. You cant backup just the save unless you are PS+ member and use cloud save backup (which I do and its awesome).

To do a back up you just plug the vita into the PC or PS3 (or set up a wireless connection) and then open content manager. Its pretty straight forward from there with either full back up and individual access. I forget the exact names but its fairly obvious.

The only thing to consider really is things like DLC and online play. If you go with a US account, any japanese games you by from retail wont be able to get patches or DLC. I dont know how the online will work (or if it will) on those games either. It will either connect with US people or just not work at all but I dont know which.

Personally I would get an account with what ever region I intend to be in long term. If you are only in Japan for a year or two then moving to live in the states then I would go with a US account. If Japan is where you live and intend to stay then I would prob go with that one.

As far as I'm aware you're stuck with the server of the release. You'll be able to play online with any region PSN. Such as one can import a Japanese copy of Soul Sacrifice, play it on their US account, but they'll be stuck on the Japanese server.

could someone please explain that Everybody´s Golf game for me..?

I freaking love it.. but how long do I have to go to get a decent character and equipment..? someone/thing that will give me a good change of going online..? I am at the Bronze games right now..

I also want that Legends of War game on my Vita! It seems it was cancelled though. Its publisher Maximum Games doesn't have any info on their site. Hmmmm

Hmm, no new releases for me this month. I'm knees deep in P4 and awaiting Soul Sacrifice.

Also, is Shinobido 2 for about $20 worth it? I played the demo but I'm still not sure.

Huh thats interesting to know. I have never seen a concrete answer to how online play works in these situations

I havn't got this game yet either. I loved the tenchu games. Riddled with flawes but that never bothered me. However I heard this game is only about 8 hours long and the stupid i win button insta kills from miles away I experienced in the demo put me off. PS+ game for me I think.

I had Tenchu Z on xbox and played it so much. The thing I liked about the games was the amount of time you could put into them and becoming a stronger ninja as you go (despite how dumb the mechanics are). This game just seems off to me.

Long story short..... from what I have seen, I would wait for even cheaper.

You can play with every character/equipment online. Especially since the first character is one of the most well balanced. Its still important to fully level a character up, which takes about 5-10 tournaments. You also unlock new chars when beating a "boss", you'll figure it out easy enough :)

New thread, new month, new hopes xD the line-up in Japan this month is crazy... makes me want to learn japanese (It would be better if I improve my english first )

I wanna play Tales of Hearts R.

I´m playng with the guy that is unlocked from the beginning. Level up..? the only thing that levels up for me is The heart one (loyalty?) and that is fully leveled up. And then he gains a "level" sometimes when I have enought stars, he is level 9 or something. But does that alter his stats or something.?
I have beaten 4 of the "bosses" .. but not waste money on unlocking them, because they do not look to be "much" better than the first persons you have acces to.

OK, so the "backup" thing is for the whole memcard and the "copying" is for separate apps-games (with the save)? I have yet to redownload a "copied" game from my PS3 to see if the saves stuck, but I do have PS+ (and have enabled the save uploading), so if that does the trick I'm golden anyways.
It's not that big of a deal, since I won't be switching games on my memcard every day. But since I just got the thing I want to try every game I can and have only 4GB of storage to play with, so the savegame thing seemed confusing.

Here's my score for the March Challenge if anyone wants to see it.

Speaking of Ninja Gaiden, my friend refused the copy of Ninja Gaiden Σ2+ that I offered him because he had already bought it digitally. So I may have a GAF giveaway soon if another friend doesn't take it.
Stay tuned, my fellow Ninja-GAF bretheren!

EDIT: First try....not so good lol.

I call dibs on the NGS2+! I going for the platinum of NGS+!

yes it can be confusing. But yeah, individual app back up keeps the save files with it. There should also be an option to back up to the cloud as well since you have ps+ (rather then just relying on auto upload you can select apps to back up the save data.

Cool, thanks for making things clearer!

Hustle Kings worth $5?

If you like Billards, yes. $5 is a great price point, since the game has very nice production values, depth and plenty of content.

i didnt like it at all but there is quite a few here who do. so im no help

Curious, why? Controls? Took me a bit getting used to as well, but once it clicked it really felt great.

And sorry to rant, but seriously. People saying there are no Indie games in genres where there are MILLIONS (not literally) drives me up the wall. People are being ignorant of hundreds of interesting games each year (even when OT's and collection threads have been created) and then crawl out to complain there are none so that others need to "prove" the worth of the Indie scene. God damn. Its so annoying to see people not seeing the worth of Indie games. Same with all those Indie game Vita announcements, which are now being considered "lesser" than "proper" games by the majority of people.
Grrr.

First of all, Its great to be able to be a proud vita owner and thanks for all the help you guys have given over the past few months that I have joined the site. I visit everyday to catch up on what you guys have to offer.

But now I need some help. I recently bought my daughter a Vita(has not arrived yet) for her birthday. If I make her a sub account attached to my master account, does she get the benefits to download and play the games that I own on my PSN account?

Thanks

You'll soon find that as you progress, the courses will get more and more demanding for extra power and the fairways get narrower. Soon, the novice characters won't be able to get to the green on a Par 4 in 2 shots and you'll be struggling to stay under par.

The level 9 might be your overall skill level, which is just yours as a player. You can play through the tournament mode with any character you want and change at any time. Stats don't change unless you change the ball/club.

as far as I know, only master account works on vita. Vita os won't accept a sub account.

I share my PSN ID with my sister since we don't care about trophies or online play much. So we get 2 games for the price of one! and adhock play works fine.

Can anybody else clarify if the above quote is correct.

I think you can use a sub account on Vita, but its basically being treated as every other normal account, as in she needs to buy her own games and have her own PS+ membership etc.

You could probably just use the same account on multiple Vitas however, which has the disadvantage of getting the trophies from the other Vita/same friends list etc.

Mentioned it in the Soul Sacrifice review thread too, but let me know if anyone wants to go in on a Soul Sacrifice Double pack, I will be in Tokyo on Wednesday so I can meet up in Akihabara or Shinjuku.

Also thanks Noi for using an Indie-related thread title :)

Vitabros, I downloaded+transferred Suikoden 1 and ... I just can't stop playing it. I love the series, and I thought I would be able to just play it a bit and move onto some trophies but man - I love this game.

Please feel free to write something that finally convinces me to try Suikoden 1.

I just started playing God of War HD on my ps3 yesterday.. how is the remote play working on the Vita..? do the R2 prompts (which there are alot of) work ? (do you use the backtouch area for that..?)

and how does it run..?

Is Patton based on a game already out? Looks interesting to me if the price is right. Nothing else until DoA (will be picking up the PS3 version next week, thanks PS+)
