They don't care about non-Muslims. People like these guys exercise their authority over fellow Muslims. They say "hey, if you're also Muslim, you better have some self-respect, or else you are making me look bad too!"

The waitress was supposedly Muslim. If she wasn't, they wouldn't care.

These guys better learn to tolerate other people's cultures and religions from the backlash and probably criminal charges that will stem from this. I would hope at least.

Yea probably.

But they need to recognize another Muslim person doesn't need to answer to their authority. This whole medieval chivalry religious control stuff is frightening. Yet it is probably the norm for a lot of our world.... not just for Muslim world but Hindu world and Christian and Jewish and Sikh and so on probably too.

Several French media outlets are reporting on it, the owner of the bar has officially contacted the police and placed a complaint, and the police is actively looking for the perp, with the help of at least 1 if not more security video camera footage.

The media also report that in this very same neighborhood, in 2014, a man was assaulted for the same reason for sellin Ham sandwiches in his shop during that period.

Doesn't matter if the victim is Muslim, in France, a country which loves its "laicite" (separation of Church and State) and freedom of religion, everybody should be free to live their beliefs however they want and not force them on others.
Disgusting behavior.

Most Muslims don't go around smacking people in the face, face smacking Isn't a tenant of Islam.

I agree about people forcing their views but thats out of the question to force or indoctrinate any ideals or beliefs on anyone.

I don't even understand the guy's thinking. His own God has not made alcohol consumption and serving of it for that matter, a capital offence. Is he telling her he'd be doing things differently if he was god?

No, but violence against infidels is, right? I understand the reason for including that in the original Quran (maximize potential for religious/cultural expansion... even tough I don't agree with it), but the problem in modern society is that Muhammad is infallible, even though he's just a man, which means those tenants will stick forever/give legitimacy for violence.

Does the French government attempt to educate and integrate it's immigrants and refugees? I'm just curious to why I only hear about this kind of culture clash in Europe while it's pretty mellow in Canada and the US.

It's pretty mellow because the population of muslims there is very tiny in comparison to Europe.

Not at all the same kind of immigration in Europe and North America.
And saying there is no attempt at all to integrate and educate them is false. Many of them, specially the younger generation, simply don't want to.

I think we should be less interested in what right wing extremists think and more interested in how we can use social control to make this kind of behavior taboo.

I mean right wing extremists (nationalistic or Islamic fundamentalists) will always do their shitty thing. It's key to make sure those in between the two have a common set of rules that they adhere to that prevents this kind of behavior.

It's very difficult to asses the size of the problem though, we don't exactly know how these guys grew up and for every incident like this there are probably tons of other situations where nothing happened. We also don't if this is a poverty thing or not, making people want to take control of their little thing because the rest of their life sucks.

Immigration groups and policy between Europe and US/Canada is very different. See also the current refugee situation, where the US all but refuses to take people in.

And I don't think any integration and education is needed for the simple thing of not attacking people.

Should we really care about how people grew up with things like this? You don't go around assaulting others no matter what education you have gotten, what background you are and how your upbringing is. I don't think assault is "a poverty thing." That is just making excuses for people doing this, while there are zero. You don't go around attacking other people, simple as that.

France alone has more than twice the amount of muslims than the US at 1/5th the citizens and more than 5 times the amount of Canada

Yes, that will send a message of tolerance and equality.

How about they get charged for, I don't know, assault and battery like anyone else would be charged with who committed these crimes. While we are at it, we should probably sentence them to an appropriate punishment that is in accordance with the laws on the books.
