BRISTOW, Okla. — Investigators were working Monday to identify a man who took more than $75,000 from an Oklahoma Walmart after disguising himself as an armored truck driver.

Bristow Police Chief Wayne Williams said authorities in northeast Oklahoma have received some anonymous tips about the identity of the man whose image was captured by a video surveillance camera.

"We've got some calls out on it, but nothing yet," Williams said. He said officials do not believe the suspect lives in the area.

Authorities say the suspect entered the Walmart store in Bristow about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, walked to the cash office, signed for the deposit and walked out of the store. He drove away in a dark four-door Chevrolet.

"He came to the Walmart kind of dressed like a Loomis armored car driver," Williams said. Walmart employees called police after the real Loomis employee arrived about 45 minutes later.
Bristow is about 35 miles southwest of Tulsa.

Williams said Walmart has alerted its other stores about the theft and his department has notified other law enforcement agencies.

Walmart Stores Inc. spokeswoman Betsy Harden said she wasn't aware of any similar incidents involving other Wal-Mart stores.

"Obviously, it's an ongoing investigation," Harden said. She declined to comment on whether the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company plans to alter its policy on verifying the identity of workers who transport its cash deposits.

Williams said investigators have no evidence the suspect may have once worked for an armored transportation service and was familiar with its procedures.

"It's not something we suspect. It's a possibility," Williams said.

Loomis spokesman Danny Pack declined to comment on the case.

I'm surprised it took this long honestly.
I always saw it as something someone could do.

I know that Brinks sends out a piece of paper with the photo IDs of all their employees that could potentially stop by to pick up the money from the safe.

Walmarts are typically such a mess in the back that it doesn't surprise me that nobody checked that list. When I used to do contract IT work I could always walk right in the back and start working and nobody ever said anything to me.

Yeah. Speaking from experience people tend to pay less attention to the details when they don't like their job, work environment, etc.

Errrrr why is the store not using an identification system for the drivers?

Photo, badge, signature...

"Man posing as armored car driver," not "man posing as armored car."

No. Because his balls are so big.

People at this level are generally complacent and, no offense, not that smart. I bet you could smile, scribble down "Mickey Mouse" with a badge that says "Donald Duck" and they'd hand you the bag.

They probably are supposed to. I bet it's gotten so routine at this point that they just went through the motions. The store personnel involved are probably in a lot of trouble.

Surprised this is the first time it's been tried. The current process sounds incredibly inefficient if it was this easy to fool the employees. There should be like 2 level verification or something of the like lol. Dude drove away in a sedan, haha.

seems unusual even for a Walmart. you get to know your armored couriers so any new face should trigger suspicion.

maybe it was an inside job.

75,000? That's nothing, not worth the risk of getting shot at by police or potential jail time he could face

They willingly handed him the cash. Could be impersonating with intent to steal but did he even use any fake credentials?

I wonder what the exact charges will be.

is that one of those movie moments where he says "oh yeah, joey is sick, I am the replacement" and it just works out?

You say that like the employees who gave the guy the money shouldn't be held accountable...

Well, based on past Walmart threads, I'm guessing their policy is that if the guy were to wave a gun around they are to just let it happen and call the cops, so not sure they can be held accountable for being tricked by a thief looking more or less like all of the other random Loomis folks they deal with.

So it says he may have worked there and knew the routine but wouldn't someone have recognized him?

If I had to guess how he cooked it all up, he studied the walmart like someone would study a bank, watched the times that the armored car showed up, probably ran the whole money exchange like a thousand times in his hotel room and went in and pulled it off. Haha he gave himself a 45 min head start!

That is the definition of pulling a stunt.

If he waved a gun in their faces, then I would agree with you.

Handing the money over to a guy who just says "I'm with Loomis" while wearing clothes that vaguely resemble a Loomis uniform should get you fired.

how much time would he get if caught ? this wasnt an armed robbery and no one got hurt so that counts for something right ?

Have you ever been poor?

Sure, in the grand scheme, it's not really a lot of money. It's a shitton of money if you're starting in the negatives though.

That's the policy for handling a robbery if the cashier is getting robbed (which is stupid because there's a lot less money in those registers than you'd think. Unless it was extremely busy that day you're likely to leave with less than you make in a month). Armored truck guys deal with the front end supervisors. They'll be held accountable but might be cut some slack depending on how thorough they were.

That's awesome.

He'll have a great story to tell when he goes back to his mother's house and gets caught.

I can't believe in here are people praising this idiot. It's cool to steal 75k because you think Wal-Mart sucks? So childish and really just lacks any sense of real world knowledge. I hope this piece of shit gets caught and spends a long time in jail. Just imagine how many innocent people could have been impacted if this stunt went south. Please keep praising him for "having balls" though.

This is what happens when you treat your employees like they're expendable and pay them shit--nobody becomes invested enough in the company to be vigilant. Check IDs? Call for verification? Above your average Walmart employee's pay grade.

I empathize with the workers, who will bear the brunt of the backlash for this, but I'm completely out of fucks to give for Walmart. You made your slave wage bed, now you get to lie in it.

I think the term may be 'Casing the joint'. Hopefully Organized Crime Gaf will chime in.

He walked in, asked for money, and they gave it to him. Relax.
