Wanted: Dead | Review Thread

I wish the CE had a plushie of the orange cat, then it'd be a no brainer. It's a valentines gift so I may go standard edition and get Nier Automata too.
Fun Fact: The game actually was released on Valentine's Day last year and was packaged all in pink.

Automata is great, so it gets my vote. Hope you enjoy them both.

PC patch notes, can't find anything regarding consoles

Toned down that first ninja lol. Probably a good call.

Only thing I'm interested in is this new manual cover update. Player stats is a nice, minor addition.

I want my fookin' 'chievos man, why does this game have to be so unpolished ? I've started it on Japanese hard today :D

Seriously though , how the fuck haven't they noticed the HUGE transparent rectangle on the PS5 version ? what about the no stim-pack glitch ? The game crashing ? The framerate still shitting itself even when there's not much going on on screen ? Half of the trophies not unlocking ?

I really, really don't get it, it took them 1 year to release a G'damned patch, now we got a 2nd one after a couple of weeks and the game's most serious problems are still there, are these guys blind ? Have they actually playtested this shit before releasing it ?

Good luck man lol. I did finish it on J. Hard. I'll give 2 more tips. You're not going to like them lol. I think the ideal way to play the game is likely hard mode. I consider Japanese Hard an additional layer of challenge past normal, where you have to really alter your playstyle just to make it. It was satisfying to finish it, but I wouldn't do it again lol.

1) I forced myself to max the atrocious crane game during all stage breaks. Every time you collect something you get upgrade points. In my mind it was so difficult that any edge to get upgrades faster was required.
2) Hit up on the d-pad to switch assault rifle to single shot mode. Everyone does so much more damage that you have to play more conservatively behind cover than you otherwise would. I had to just stay hidden and hunt for single headshots since they do the most damage. If you fire from cover with burst fire, you will run out of ammo much quicker.

Keep us posted!

I looked at the store page and ended up watching some Japanese cartoon about a waitress doing a double job, sending her kids to school and having a well deserved nap lol.

Punished Miku Punished Miku you're about to get a sales commission

DAMN they casualized the pleb filter? The Ninja in the police station is way more fucking savage, if you fuck up you might as well restart the checkpoint because the gauntlet afterward will fuck you up.

QoL changes seem really positive to be fair, and I'm glad they're still making an effort to refine the game. Not sure about the reworked first ninja encounter though, while there is an immediate spike in difficulty upon encountering him, it also services the rest of the game as a learning opportunity. Neko mode gamers probably complained. Respect to all who died dozens of times to beat him, your death count wasn't in vain!

Also, we have an OT to discuss the game:

I tried that first ninja a hundred times, refused the cat ears easy mode. Ended up quitting after that. Maybe I'll go back if they actually made that bearable.

You should give it another go. My concern is that if they only balanced the first ninja, then you'll still be in for a rough time, as there are still several acts that are quite tough.

On sale for 15 now on xbox.
Now THAT is a good price !

Also : NEW UPDATE just came out, it rebalances things, adds a different skill tree and a couple more things like shooting the pistol while sliding, being able to de-limb enemies when shooting them etc...

PS: For PS owners, the game is "PS4 & PS5" now, it used to be that if you bought 1 version you didn't get the other free, or, in the case of owning the PS4 disc version, you couldn't upgrade for free to the PS5 one, hey, it only took them 1+ year !

Grabbed this for $2.50 off a key site. Started it last night and holy hell, it's fast.
It was making me think it was running faster than it's supposed to.
Loving it so far, but I died like 3 times in the first few areas. Harder from the jump than I thought it'd be.
Looks great with HDR on OLED Steam Deck.

I doubt we will but I hope we get a sequel to this. Game tickles all the right parts of my brain.

This is what I thought The Devil's Third would be like. Never ended up trying that one given it's reception and only on WiiU I believe.
I'm still tempted to hook up my WiiU to give the devils turd a go for myself.

I started this yesterday and finished the first level + explored the hub area. This is way better than I expected.

Some dialogue is giving me Deadly Premonition vibes, and I fucking love it.

The combat is surprisingly interesting, I thought this was low tier jank but it's actually addicting. The combo katana + guns is always cool as hell, the execution animations are really on point.

And why am I playing a rhythm mini-game while slurping ramen as part of the main story? Lmao. Now I know this game is gonna be crazy.

I fucking love this game. Loved it when it released and loved it now. Combat is also god tier. Everything about this game is batshit crazy and surreal. This is why I don't rely on reviewers to make my decisions. It's already a cult classic.

Don't actually mind the necro here as it's about the game.

Voice acting can be horrendous at times and the single weapon gets tiring after a while, so you have to mix and match, also executions.

The game early 2000's AA jank and is clearly inspired by them by it's use of fmv's and mini games are not done yet lol

If you bought it during a sale, it's completely worth it.

I should give this another shot sometime. I remember buying it during some random, rainy Sunday during a PSN sale and found it oddly addicting, but really, really hard. I liked what I played though. Didn't expect such charming wackiness

Finished it, I loved it. It's pretty short and I appreciate that they didn't try to pad this out, the length is perfect for the enemy types they developed.

Not sure why this game was shat on, I found it to be quite engaging, the combat system is deeper than it looks, you really have to mix and match your swordplay and gunplay together to make the best out of it. I also activated the gyroscope on aim via Steam Input, which makes aiming much better, it was a game changer for me. The only thing I would have liked to see improved is how the normal combos are linked together, a smoother inbetween animation based on the current attack would have been nice to see, the transition is a bit abrupt currently.

At the beginning I was ignoring the fire grenades, but then I noticed how you can basically control enemies if you place them correctly, super useful in the last level or any closed space.

It would be perfect if this game had an arcade mode, where you could go through the levels without cutscenes/story with a limited set of lifes. Wanted: Dead really feels like an arcade game to a degree, for sure it's made to be played repeatedly given it's length. You can basically finish it in one sitting if you skip all the story and side activities.

The story is kind of out there, loved the Deadly Premonition vibes and dialogue. Obviously it's not the focus of the game but it's nice that they tried something different and didn't play it straight, it plays to the game advantage for sure.

I will keep it installed and try out the higher difficulties later on.

Now I'm curious to see what this studio is working on next. From the Steam reviews count it doesn't seem like this game had much success unfortunately, an improved sequel would be fantastic.

EDIT: Didn't notice we had an OT, otherwise I would have posted there. My bad.
