I mean, yeah, it'll look terrible to a large percent of the population and it won't go down well in history, but in the near-term they're gonna be more worried about not pissing off Trump's fanbase. In '18 we could see some Republicans trying to balance a situation where rejecting Trump would get them primaried by a Trumpist, but supporting Trump will cause them to lose in the general election.

Oddly enough Rubio turned it back into a clear loss and Coats fucked up by essentially saying on the record that being requested to kill an investigation by the president is neither pressure nor obstruction of justice. Which is not going to pass any legal sniff test.
