Warhammer 40,000: Darktide for Xbox Series launches October 4

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Launched on PC earlier and the console version was not given a date, now we have it.

The Xbox Series version of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will launch on October 4, developer Fatshark announced. It will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide first launched for PC via Steam on November 30, 2022.

If this is friendly to jump in with randoms I will probably try it out. Exoprimal has reawakened my love of coop games.

Played the first day on pc and haven’t played since. Boring, then again I don’t enjoy vermintide either

And the game is still a mess on PC.
Good luck to Xbox players.
Even better they are introducing a completely untested skill system overhaul for launch, will it be better? No one knows, in fact no one really complained about skills outside of saying some currently suck, they complained about a lack of sub classes, they want what is in vermintide 2.

This I suspect is their attempt to remove the need for subclasses, which would be very very bad.

Fun fact : of all the MS exclusives, this is the one that got me interested the most and made me buy a XSX back in November 2020...
Game was going to be released last year but it got cancelled/postponed (on the Xbox).

The PC release didn't fare that much better since from what I remember, Fat shark put the game in the proverbial oven again as to iron things out since many players complained .

Anyway, it's too late for me now since I don't have my XSX anymore.

Typical case of too little, too late and the usual MS BS of overpromising and underdelivering.

Ah shit, looks like this is coming in pretty hot ..

Pretty hot turd.....
Between the performance issues, bugs, the monetization and the class system, this game has a ton of problems. Most haven't been fixed, a year after release.
It could have been a great game, because the combat system and level design is pretty good. But fatshark dropped the ball, really badly.

Fat shark dude, I know, I wrote that in my post.

In the end it doesn't matter, this game is a console exclusive , meaning, out of the 3 consoles, it's only available on the XSS/XSX , meaning, it's an "exclusive", meaning, MS should have known better, meaning, it's the same/usual IP mismanagement that happens under their umbrella.

Cheers

They’ve mismanaged an IP they don’t own? a game they didn’t develop?

Ive enjoyed the Vermintide games a bit in the past... was really looking forward to this one.

My teenage son and his friends have gotten into Warhammer pretty big last couple of months so he's looking forward to this to.

Glad it's coming to Xbox but hope they can fix whatever performance/content/etc issues it might have :(

Going by this video, looks like Performance mode is at or close to 60 mostly with quick drops to mid 50's here and there.

Seems to be doing pretty well considering the state it launched on PC earlier.

Edit:

Looks like Series S only has one 30 FPS mode.

So... do I think Darktides worth playing after the update?

I mean... its still Darktide, its main issue is that its still grossly overmonotised with no real endgame, iv cleared every challange the game has thrown at me, and the reward for the very hardest content being a weapon with a 95% chance of having shit rolls on it is just not rewarding when I'm already clearing the content with the weapons I have.

The skill tree change has opened up a few new play styles, or made certain ones viable, like a melee veteran (I thought the fact it was a sharp shooter that specialised in ranged combat was the reason its melee options sucked) but its also made the game easier, because I can still make my old build but now with more bonuses and an improved grenade. I assume this means they will be cancelling subclasses because of this.

I mean iv spent 300+ hours on it... but I wouldn't recommend it, I don't even have a single perfect weapon or charm, I just make do with what I have to clear content, and even with all the nerfs to power sword I just make do.

Exactly what eventually pissed me off with Destiny 2, crap rolls or RNG high level loot. Espwcially being forced to use other builds or items/skills by design. I prefer tasks and missions/action over repetitive design and a chance of the actual loot you want.

I'll checkout Darktide but as a casual interest and some coop mates, not long term grind. Over grinding and RNG in games.

I just played through the prologue and one mission thing (public matchmaking). It seems alright. The graphics aren't that great in quality mode and there's a noticeable step down in resolution in performance mode. Performance mode doesn't feel completely smooth even with a VRR screen. I can tell it's dropping frames.

Just checked for a few minutes, will play this later when there's a slow time in all the other dozen(s) of games that I want to play first.

The game looks incredibly soft in Performance mode, but at least the frame rate seems to be decent. Quality mode isn't exactly a looker either. Performance looks like it's upscaling from sub < 1080p or something.

But still feels like the game is in a very functional state and not anywhere near as broken as it was when it launched on PC before.

The performance mode looks super low-res. Definitely sub 1080p with so much aliasing in the background. That said, it sounds weird to say it, but I like the way it looks. I think they nailed that Warhammer 40000 look better than most other licensed games. Too early to tell about the gameplay, but the shooting feels great and it looks like it is going to be a fun game to play with friends.

Very enlightening, thank you. I have played games like his and their bait n after-100-hours switch is the most depressing slow slide of non-discovery. I'll play a game with a beginning, middle, and end, thank you!

That's really disappointing to hear. Why are the consoles struggling THIS much with a game like this?

I mean I can see myself adding anouther 100 hours because... well 40k and I AM DESPERATE since Space Marine 2 Still doesn't have a release date. In its defence the gameplay is pretty good, and it's coop which means with friends it's fun... but I haven't had something drop that made me go "YEAH!!!" in like 150 hours. It's essentially like I'm playing L4D with preset loadouts right now.

I managed to FINALLY get power cycler on some shitty blue power sword yesterday (lets you use the power charge for more than one hit, like the sword used to do before a huge nerf), so I slapped that on my current one replacing its bonus cleave blessing. But it didn't feel rewarding it felt... "fucking finally game, fuck your stupid RNG"

But what really pisses me off is the cosmetics... you know how these games have like all the cool armor for premium currency? Imagine that, but the game gives you literally 2 sets of armor for free... for the entire fucking game, then every other armor set is sold for real money, and they give a new premium armor set every 2 weeks in a rotating fomo store, but then won't give players a new free armor set despite many already being in the game files unreleased.

Here's the free earnable stuff, which I like to call the "I found this in a dumpster" set

FThALtO.jpg

here is a small HANDFUL of the "you must pay us real money" sets

6I5U7b4.jpg

Imagine a game with 2 armor sets per class in the game you paid money for, and then selling 30+ for each class in the store. Imagine no more, welcome to Darktide anouther GaaS title.

About fucking time.

I hope the year they’ve had to fix it has been put to good use.
IMO it still has ways to go before it could be considered a completed game because it's still pretty barebones. I'm surprised that they're pushing this out to consoles already. The money well must have dried up on PC already.

It's OK, only tried the prologue and one mission so far. My biggest issue is that there are so many alpha effects on the screen during fights that you can't see what you're aiming at if using a gun with the flashlight on. Literally just blindfiring.

The visuals are strange. Good but let down by IQ.

Amazing core gameplay with everything else... progression, RNG, monetization... being a total dumpsterfire.

Good news the developer just announced that they need to make it worse.

W2XTJxJ.jpg

Oh no... the prior cosmetics where sold too cheaply, we need to increase the price of the new ones because they take sooooooooooooo long to make, what you want a 3rd free armor set to earn by playing the game? FUCK YOU, YOU ENTITLED LITTLE SHIT YOU ONLY PAID £60 FOR THIS GAME"
