I'm becoming better at MP ( i think i reached rank 14 in chaos and 4 in space marines ) .

anyone interested in 1v1 ?!

If you want to train a bit, I'm rank 60 Space Marine and rank 25 Chaos. Mostly a 2on2 player but I'm not horribly bad at 1on1. :lol :lol

Had a chaos sorcerer with deathless armor (armor rating of 4; however, it heals me at full hp/mp whenever I die, but only reactivates after 30 secs; also applies to my minion). Otherwise, fireball + greater sorcery (2 fireballs = can wipe out normal squads with ease, but energy management was an issue). Also have reactive strike on my minion (chance of casting doomblast - also enhanced by greater sorcery - which knocks down and damages units around it) and another ability which made every minion attack heal hp (100% damage) + mp.

So I'd get the force commander at wave 4, then substitute him with a wraithlord at wave 12. Now, a wraithlord that was deathless (full hp/mp on death, every 30 secs), had a fair activate rate of doomblast, and healed 100% of the damage it dealt. That guy was tanking 3 carnifex or 3-4 dreadnoughts at some point, insane! Still died on wave 19, so I subb'ed him with a dreadnought. Meanwhile, I'd hide in the back and lob fireballs at mobs. Having an armor rating of 4 made me extremely vulnerable, though, as even a small group of regular units could kill me if I wasn't careful. The build works, though, as one of my sessions got me 600+ kills :lol

Buddy was hive tyrant with genestealers (for armor reduction attacks), and he'd use the ability to make himself invincible for a few secs whenever his minions died, and the other one that'd make the minions blow up on death for damage. He was a pretty effective tank, and saved our bacon a few times since he could just rez us (knockdown immunity) whenever we were down. Also had poison area.

3rd char was a random, also a summoning chaos sorcerer with doomblast (which was useful for me since he could get pesky units off my back, since we mostly hung out together in the back, given how fragile we were).

Wave 20 was completely chaotic. Had no idea what was going on. I was just lobbing fireballs into the melee while tyrant was poisoning. We also had 2 clones of the chaos lord :D It was a pretty close call since both of our sorcerers were down at some point, but we managed to turn it around and win. Phew! I don't know how many hours I've spent on Last Stand, but this was our first time beating wave 20. So satisfying.

I just bought DoW 2 on Direct2Drive for $14.95. I got the Activation Key and entered it in to Steam, so I didn't have to mess around with the D2D Download Manager.

I'm a total RTS-noob, but hopefully it won't take me too long to get my head around the controls.

I have recently tried to give the original dawn of war campaign a chance. I only ever played it online in a LAN cafe around my university back in the day.

I just loaded up Dark Crusade because I wanted to try Tau. But seriously what the hell, is the difficulty borked or do I just suck? I am playing on normal and I rarely have trouble in offline RTS games. However, anytime I run into an enemy with two bases I just get overrun. I am guessing it is like playing 2 people so its twice my population cap.

I really don't want to bump it down to easy.

When facing 2 you have to rely on the troops and heroes you start with plus whatever you can pump out in the first minute or so to blitz one of the 2 enemy bases. You kill one off early and it's easy going from there.

All keys are tied through steam since its a Steamworks game. There was a sale going on about a month or two ago that made this made like $5-6 USD.

wtf? didnt the game just come out 2 months ago? how did i miss this sale?

i havent played DOW in a few now. i need to pick 2 soon.

edit: oh DOW2, not Chaos Rising. i see. :p

Do you keep your rank when you start the game over on a different difficulty? How does this work for Chaos Rising?

I think I am half way done through the campaign and was wondering how it goes over after you beat it.

Just beat the game, will probably start Chaos Rising after taking a short break about a week or so.

Relic thanked NeoGAF as one of the online communities in the credits :D

Do missions always keep coming in DoW2 regular? Im near the end (I assume anyway), all my guys are 20, but when I finish a planets optional missions, more just pop up! Its starting to make me go crazy!

Yep, it's endless. If you want to get all the forges/shrines, you'll have to rock a mission and gain additional deployments for one day.

I rock missions all the time, so I've gotten all the shrines/forges, I got all but 2 before the The Last Stand opened up to me, everyone is 20, My gear is rockin (I just need to get one more Terminator armour for Thaddeus). Im tempted to do more missions untill I can get Angel of Death, but its quite far away, as im only a Justicar of Extermination or something (whatever the 3rd last titles are).

I will have to see what other Achievements I can get before I finish the game.

The game creates a pre-endgame save save before you enter the final mission, and then an endgame save once you beat it, to bring over to Chaos Rising. You could beat it and go back for achievement hunting down the road.

Ahhh, ok thats cool. The "__ Days remaing" ones are so hard NOT to finish though, I only got 2 days! I must do it now!

Im finding it hard to choose between Terminator armour and having more fun abilties on my Force Commander, Im probably going with the terminator armour though, as having 912 melee damage is loads of fun.

I love this game so much, I was gonna wait for a steam sale for Chaos Rising, but I think im gonna go buy the gold box in store instead. Then I can flip through the manual and stuff, and pass the original games CD key to a friend, plus I can just load the CR cd key into steam, and have the best of both worlds!

One thing I don't like about Terminator armor is how it makes Avitus useless. He was one of my favorite characters with his awesome heavy bolter suppression. Don the armor, and he takes a few shots, walk around randomly, takes a few more shots, then keeps wandering, etc. In theory, his terminator gun is supposed to be deadly, but because of this ?pathfinding bug, he ends up useless.

Yea, I never put Avitus in Terminator armor, especially because you can't get behind cover when you're using it as well.

I had 3 terminator armors by the time I finsihed the original campaign, Commander, Tarkus and Thaddeus wore them. Avitus just carried a bigass Heavy Bolter. :lol

Just beat the game, Wooo so fun, the last mission was super easy, I loved rollin around with all those units destroying everything, haha.

Gotta play a little more Skate 3, Lost Planet 2, and Red Dead when it comes out, then I will pick up Chaos Rising. Im still planning on playing through this game Co-op with one of the people I bought it for, haha.

I never had pathing issues, he pretty much shit all over everyone in his terminator armour for me :p.

My only problem with this game, is that I enjoy using the squad made up of FC, Tarkus, Avitus and Cyrus, that I only used Thaddeus and Davian in a few missions, Thaddeus seems to take damage way to fast, and Davian just didnt seem to bring enough to the table to make me want to drop anyone from my group. Avitus and Cyrus just seem way to important in tactics to not bring them, and Tarkus is solid all around, that he fit in well with everyone.

Fantastic game.

I'm coming off of a six month stint, where I could get myself to enjoy a video game.

I'm afraid to even try jumping back into DOW2 multiplayer, because I bought but never even tried Chaos Rising.

Is it a totally different game now?

When's the last time you played the vanilla? I think Relic fixed the pathing in the big patch that came right before, or with CR.

Picked this up on the Steam sale and loving it..

Just finished the vanilla story... played it on Primarch (sp?), was a nice challenge.

Question: I downed the Warboss pretty easily.. after that the Avatar of Khaine mission never showed up. So I figured screw it, I'll come back later and do it. Died on Last Stand once and then the Avatar mission showed up. Next, lost to the Avatar @ about 10%... and now the mission for him is gone?

Do I only get one shot at both the Warboss and the Avatar for some reason?
Got the warboss and now I want to finish the Avatar and move to Chaos Rising.

Also - Can I get the online achievements for "20 games with the Orks", etc.. while playing in Chaos Rising? Even though its a DoW2 Vanilla Achievement?

Amazing game, sucks I waited so long to get into it.

Any help would be awesome!

Just started Chaos Rising, It sucks that not all of my loot seemed to transfer over, im ok with losing my Terminator armour, but I lost my sweet 2h hammer I had for the FC.

So I got this game when it first came out, played until about level 10 and lost interest. Didn't really dabble in multiplayer or the last stand.

Picked up Chaos Rising during the sale and decided to pick it up again, and I have no idea how it happened but I am totally fucking addicted. Last Stand is just absurdly fun, the multiplayer is a blast (I'm someone who usually sucks at RTSs because I get bogged down in base building and economics, so this is perfect), and I'm really loving the single-player.

I haven't enjoyed a game like this in a long time, just an awesome total package, and I haven't even gotten to the Chaos Rising campaign yet (just about finished with the vanilla campaign).

As far as I know the achievements are shared as there are 2000 achievement points for the Dawn Of War II game (the most of any game 360 or PC) - so you should be able to unlock vanilla cheevos with Chaos Rising installed.

The Chaos Rising campaign is miles better than the DoW2 campaign, except for the last boss, unless you spec'd your people perfectly. I fought that thing for over 45 minutes, and then just gave up and youtubed the ending video.

Just started CR .. what's so shitty about the final boss?

Waht specs are optimal for it - I cant play the hole game and get stuck on the last boss x.x

Played the demo a few days ago and loved it. I'm thinking about picking up the DoW package and playing through it before buying DoW2.

DoW1 has base building and DoW2 has none, correct?

Yeah, though there is a limited base thing in DoW2 multiplayer (just one structure which can be upgraded).

Nah, the end boss is beatable as long as you have at least one character with an ability that can stun him, but you'll have to run back and recharge/heal a couple of times.

If you did spec eveyone out perfectly you can keep him in stun-lock forever.

So I have DoW2, but not Chaos rising. My friend is probably going to buy DoW2 gold, so get both. Will we have any problems playing through the DoW2 campaign together? I'll eventually buy Chaos Rising, but would rather wait until we get to that point and see if goes on sale sometime between now and then.

Man, you guys need to keep on top of Steam deals. Gold was 20$ two weeks ago. And no, you wont have any troubles.

Yah...it was kind of a spur of the moment decision. We might wait for it to go back on sale for both of us, it seems to have been on sale several times since its release.

For people who picked up DoW II or CR in the Steam sales, you can get codes for DLC wargear by registering the games at THQ.com.

You have to redeem the codes via the GFWL client, not on marketplace.xbox.com. You don't need a game key to register.

Further instructions if you need them are at this link.

Descriptions of the two packs:

Chapter Command Wargear Set (for the Force Commander)

* Items - "Cuirass of Azariah" Armor, "Pistol of Baal" Bolt Pistol, "Gauntlet of Blood" Power Fist, "Mantle of the Great Father" Armor, "Fearsome Light of Faith" Plasma Gun, "Laurels of Hadrian" Iron Halo
* Multiplayer Spacemarine chapters - "Revilers", "Angels Sanguine"
* Multiplayer custom army painter colours - Shining Gold, Mithril Silver, Abyss Purple, Insect Green, Iron, Abyss Orange, Brazen Brass, Metallic Blue

Chapter Librarium Registration Pack

* Items - "Axe of the Ravens" Power Axe, "Fist of Valhalla" Power Fist, "Golden Fury of Terra" Plasma Gun, "Pistol of Ideus" Plasma Pistol, "Venerated Zeal" Dreadnought Cannon, "Helm of Command" Force Commander Accessory

Is it possible to play Last Stand with a bot as the third person? My friend and I just beat the campaign on Primarch, and we thought we'd try Last Stand, but every time someone joins and sees two level 1's in starting gear, they quit. :(

Nope, you'll have to try to find someone who isn't a douche. I'm pretty surprised you're having so much trouble. The only disconnects I come across are Europeans who can't (and shouldn't have to) deal with the high ping connection to Canada.

And I just want to say: Thank you Relic for the Army Painter. So much. I've been having trouble getting a colour scheme for my Space Hulk genestealers, but I've finally settled on something thanks to that featured. A lot easier than trial an error with real paints. :lol

Just play them in the order they were released.
  1. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War
  2. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Winter Assault
  3. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Dark Crusade
  4. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm
  5. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
  6. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising
  7. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – The Last Stand
I've played everything except Chaos Rising and The Last Stand and they're all worth your time.

last stage of CR was epic, it's also somewhat difficult as I had to retreat when the douche summoned demons into the fight. I had the barrier that gives invincibility on a single character and used my Force Commander for tanking, Tyco as a support, the Dreadnought as stunner and heavy fire support.

the boss hits very hard so you'll need to make use of the barrier very often.

Skip soulstorm though >.< no single player worth it there, dark crusade is ok, but doing all the campaigns would take awhile, the only real difference is the intro and ending bits.

Both of my codes worked, so you might try e-mailing THQ to see if they'll send you another one.

There's a Steam community specifically for DoWII newbies that might be helpful in finding other people who don't mind playing with new players.

I would play DoW1, Winter Assault, then go straight to DoW2 and CR.

The gameplay of Dark Crusade and Soulstorm is basically the same as skirmishes in DoW2, without the meta overworld map (which is cool, but for me not enough reason to spend time playing the inferior DoW1) and the minimal base building present in the first DoW. Unless you have a real hankering to play Necrons or Tau though, DoW2 does it all better.

Well i couldn't resist the shinnies so i went straight to Dow 2. Finished the first 3 missions and its good stuff so far.

Also had a quick go at a skirmish. 3 v 3 for your first game is not recommended :p Im gonna need a lot of help from the Project L2P guys if i ever get round to the multiplayer. I suck at RTS so have never bothered to play one online before.
