Joel is repeatedly called old, old timer and Gramps throughout the game. Yet the guy looks like he's in his mid 30s and has the strength of men in their 20s

He cleaves through men like they're nothing and Has a higher body count that drake. He pretty much looks the same as he does in the intro, other than abit of silver in his hair; which men get in their 30s anyway.

Man went through hell. Daughters dead; had to murder innocent people for 20 years just to eat.

Could this man achieve Joel's feats?

Tom Brady is laughing at your question.

He could have played the highest level of professional football until he was 50 if he had wanted. Gordie Howe was playing in the NHL in his fifties.

Go to any gym and you'll see some of the strongest dudes there are post-50.

It's not that old if you take care of yourself.

A 52 year old man that takes poor care of himself, who’s a basic citizen/smuggler without any extra provisions or workout equipment, lives in a city on the edge of collapse (they make a point to say the rationing for non soldiers is terrible) and somehow it’s totally acceptable to be a powerful murder machine.

Yet a girl that has almost literally lived at the gym since her mid teens, who is one of the best soldiers (is a favoured class based on their militaristic leader) of her incredibly well established is somehow unrealistic lol. Seriously we literally walk through an entire football stadium devoted mostly to livestock, agriculture, and general infrastructure.

And all the men people are posting? Joel had nothing like that, be it weights or nutrition, for years. Add to that he was a scavenger during the time skip, and almost died over winter.

And let’s pretend that all of these movies aren’t selling a completely unrealistic fantasy. You guys are posting images of actors that literally went on a workout routine we could never afford to temporarily be unrealistically buff for a film.

Dad strength is real, and strength is one of the last things to go after reflexes and cardio

You do understand Huge Jacked Man not just had the best trainers and coaches, but also very tailored concoctions of testosterone and other gear to get him here, right?

Every 6-12 month Hollywood transformation you see like this is heavily on the juice

Yeah it's no big barrier 50. I am not quite there yet but at 47 nearly 48. I train 4 days a week and run 3. Been doing that 20 years. Can still bench a 100kg and run 5:20 min k and that's whilst behind a dad. Living a normal life and having a sedentary programmer/dev job.

Honestly only difference is you hurt more.

I wonder what RFK Jr's dose is. Not hating at all and not diminishing, ya still gotta train like a monster to have that strength at 70, but I'm just curious.

On topic: My step dad passed recently, but he was in the same shape he was in as a marine pretty much right up until about 68, and then he started to decline. If he didn't drink like a fish and smoke two packs a day, he probably would have made it past 77. Some people just age differently.

Me, on the other hand, I'm 37 and I look every bit of it and my hair is rapidly going white. My step Dad's hair didn't go white until he was basically 70. It's weird how different we all are with that kind of stuff.

That's one criticism of part 2 I never understand.
At the start of Abby's story you quite clearly walk past the gym, you can't miss it.
Shes completely motivated by revenge and is training for the sole purpose to kill Joel.
She's in a secure area, well fed and training in a gym. I think the people who complain about her being jacked mustn't have played the game and just use it as an excuse for the woke crap.

Some of you weirdos will say anything to justify Abby’s big ugly gorilla physique.

I am seasoned, not old ;)

I have a bunker that could support my wife and I for years if needed, as long as the power held out

I could easily defend our home but out fighting for my survival I dunno.

I try to stay in shape at 57 but would much prefer to keep my booger hook on the bang stick of an AR 15 and let people come to me

Yeah, but Joel was in an apocalypse, fighting every day to save his and others lives. He wouldn’t need a team of coaches.

Here everything depends on many factors, on the general physiology of the person, how much nature has endowed him with genes, nutrition, whether he was engaged in physical activity and exercises, his health and so on. There are people in the world who at 30 get up from the couch and they start to feel dizzy and their back starts to hurt, and there are those who at 60-70 bench press 300 kg. So theoretically yes he could be that strong.

A buddy of mine is almost 52 and he's ripped. What's funny is he doesn't even go to the gym or have some special diet.

Abby is way less believable with how she was able to keep the muscles and the overal mass in a post-apocalyptic world where (good) food isn't easy to come by and no one's making special supplements anymore.

Might be hard to come by designer steroids

And just an ideal diet of the right amount of protein and all

Done and done.

Even though he kills a fucking Bloater with a machete and bare hands in TLOU II, which is a bit excessive.
But was a parent in protection mode in that moment, and it's an extremely badass scene so whatever.

Joel is an amazingly balanced character, even tho he's kinda too powerful, that's the power fantasy were needing these days probably, some pretty man without any hesitation so I think he's exactly what he's supposed to be.

I'm of the opinion that TLOU story is actually pretty simple and bland, yet the script is so well written that I ended up hating the man for what does (you know what I mean) and that's only possible because of how great and believable he was made to be. I would change nothing from him, honestly. I haven't played the sequel BTW.

Sure. It’s the apocalypse, there’s no more Big Macs and extra big ass sodas.
The flip side is that protein and anabolic steroids are hard to come by. That said, years of enhanced natural selection has thinned the heard to the point where we're only seeing the most fit human specimens.
Seeing people like Joel and Abby make sense in this world.

52 is still ripened prime age. You're being silly OP. If anything Joel wasn't jacked enough. Did he even go to the gym before it all went down? You gotta wonder.
