This is already the greastest show on TV (besides 24 of course). I have not missed a single airing of this show. I love it too much. I have got several people at my school and friends to watch it. The more the better, can't wait for tonights episode.

There's a preview of the episode tonight on http://www.fox.com/home.htm . It's hilarious. I'm quite happy with my tag, but I can guarantee you I'll be watching. Not only that, but calling friends to remind them to watch. In a final way to help quarantee Arrested Development's stay, I suggest we boycott American Dad and spread only bad word about it, which shouldn't be difficult. It seems this whole ordeal was partially caused by it's good ratings after the superbowl.

I love "Arrested Development" and all, but I absolutely HATE that joke where Gob does that stupid dance.

You put quotes around the title, you can't love the show!

(I kinda agree, it's probably my least favorite running gag)

I hope Buster gets some more "awards from Army" tonight.

My new tag shall be "* > Jordan". :D

Don't worry, I've handled your tag situation. I made sure none of the mods change it.

The thing is, average people don't help the ratings of shows. Certain households have those Nielson boxes that records what they watch, how old they are, etc and they interpolate the data for the whole country based off that. Not to rain on your parade or anything though.

Tivo has been selling viewership data, so Nielsen isn't the only game in town.

OKAY GENIUS MOTHERFUCKERS, MIKE WORKS AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HERE LIVE ON THE WEST COAST AND MIKE WORKS HAS TO READ THIS THREAD, SO HOW ABOUT WE DON'T TALK ABOUT SOME FUCKING SPOILERS, SOUNDS GOOD

Next person to post ANYTHING related to the current episode will be riding the midnight bus to slam city.

My bad Mike, didn't know you were on the West Coast and I read that after I posted that spoiler.

Well I watched it, but it's hard keeping track of the characters when you just jump in. But oh well, I'm ready to give the question a try.

Question:
What did Michael say to his mother after she explained to him that she didn't care about Gob?
I was laughing to hard to hear her. :lol

well, I had no idea what the characthers names were, except Tobias.

I ask myself,
why is Liza Manelli in the show???

Not even sure if thats a spoiler or not.

paraphrased:
Lucille:She thinks that she can get close to my family; that's why she's going after Gob. But the joke's on her... I don't really care about Gob.

Michael: That probably makes the joke on Gob then.

Heh, I'm a first time Arrested Development watcher; that particular sequence made be laugh out loud, heh. But yeah, definately gonna be watching this show from now on.

I can't do it right now, so maybe someone else here could, but for those too lazy to browse AD's site, could anyone compile a short description of each character for newcomers? That's the whole reason I made this thread, to get new people into it (and reward the people who already watch it), so it'd be cool if someone could sum up who George Michael or GOB are (in relation to the family/story), and a few little things about their character (ie GOB is a magician and often does the chicken dance in order to mock others, etc).

That'd be cool if possible.

Or better yet, buy the Season One DVD. FOX will see that the show is popular, and I promise that you'll enjoy it. :D

This thread is working!

Hooray!

Of course if you are interested in the show, buy the Season 1 DVD. I just know that not many people are that impulsive (though I bought the Trailer Park Boys Seasons 1, 2, 3 DVD's after seeing just a few episodes, and Fifty was telling me he was buying Season 1 of The OC after not even having ever seen an episode, so if you're willing to go out on a limb for a TV series, Arrested Development is an awesome option), so I thought it'd be a good idea to accelerate the easing of people into the series.

Truly, the best way to appreciate the new shows are to see the earlier ones, so if you don't want to spend $30, try renting the DVD from Blockbuster.

Here's a brief rundown for all the newbies:

The Bluth Family: A family who had a very succesful development company run by the father George Sr. Bluth, who retired in the pilot and was subsequently arrested for embezzling money, in addition to other crimes (some light treason.) Now the Bluth Company is trying to build their way up, now headed by Michael. They all live in a model home (i.e. it's not a real house, but a house fool of props which is why it's always breaking.)

Michael: Middle son, has a son named George Michael, and was married but his wife Tracy died to reasons unknown. He worked for his father as his second hand man, and is the one that truly anchors the family. Probably the most level-headed of the family. Kinda has a problem around women, judgemental to his family and obsesses over his son.

Typical Quote:
(after tricking his mother)
I *deceived* you. "Tricked" makes it sound like we have a playful relationship.

Linday Funke: Twin sister of Michael; considers herself the "liberal" member of the family, but really a socialite whose selflessness never really cost her anything. Married Tobias Funke to upset her parents, and is currently having an open relationship with Tobias without any success. Mother of Maeby.

Typical Quote: You know, we're not the only ones destroying trees. What about beavers? You call yourself an environmentalist, why don't you go club a few beavers?

GOB Bluth: GOB (prounounced Job, as in the biblical pronunciation) is the eldest child of George and Lucille and constantly feels like he should be in charge, as long as he doesn't have the responsibility. He puts on a smug face, but he's really pretty vulnerable when it comes down to it. ("we never got to call him Big Bear!") Rides a Segway, He's a part-time magician whose shows always use Europe's "Final Countdown" whenever he's on stage. He started the Magician's Alliance, a Union that black-balled any magician that revealed their secrets but inadvertantly got kicked out after one of his tricks was revealed on TV. He has a chicken dance that he uses to mock anybody else (mainly his youngest brother Buster;) and gets into relationships (he got married for like 3 weeks last year) where's he's rarely monogamous.

Typical quotes:
(After being told that he has 3 days to find someplace else to live)
"Hey, if I can't find a horny immigrant by then, I don't deserve to stay here."

Buster: The youngest son of the Bluth's; lived with his mother for his entire life and has had an on again off again relationship with Lucille 2 (Minneli.) Suffers panic attacks, and is currently enlisted in the army. The show keeps hinting that he is not actually the son of George Sr. but the son of his twin brother, Oscar.

Typica quote: "heeeeey brother."

Lucille: Mother of Gob, Michael, Lindsay and Buster. A one time socialite who's trying to have her situation adjust to her lifestyle rather than vice-versa. Gives a lot of shit to all her children, especially Lindsay whom she constantly makes cracks about her weight.

Typical Quote:
(talking about homosexuals)
"Everything they do is so dramatic and flamboyant. It just makes me want to set myself on fire"

George Sr.Father, and the now retired formerly imprisoned, now fugitive owner of the Bluth Company. Embezzled money from Bluth Company in addition to other crimes (the light treason :D.) Relies heavily on Michael, even though he doesn't show it. Used to teach his children elaborate lessons that included fake blood, and a man with one arm. He broke out of a hospital and is now a fugitive which is why he's living the in the Bluth's attic.

Typical quote: "Daddy horny, Michael."

Tobias Funke: The once practicing psychiatrist, husband of Lindsay, who lost his medical license when he tried to perform CPR on a person that wasn't dying. He has tried to pursue a career in acting, following the tutelage of Carl Weathers, and had a thing where he was an understudy for the Blue Man Group. Has multiple compromising situations where his sexuality is questioned. Is a Never-Nude (which is exactly what it sounds like.)

Typical quote: "I blue myself."

George Michael: Son of Michael, going through that awkward phase. Had a massive crush on his cousin Maeby, but is now seeing Anne Veal. He works at the Bluth Banana Stand, and is a bit of an overachiever and straight-edge kid when it comes to a lot of things.

Typical quote: "but if I fail math then there goes my chances to get a good job and have a happy life full of hard work, like you always say, right Dad?"

Maeby Funke: Daughter of Tobias and Lindsay, rebels against anything her mother supports and vice-versa. She posed as twins at her school last year, one of whom was dying (Surely Funke) so that she could get money from fundraisers. Has a crush on Steve Holt.

Typical Quote:
(after her mother protests a tree being cut down)
"We have to cut down that tree!"

Other characters:
Oscar: George's hippie twin brother that has had and is continuing with a relationship with Lucille.
Barry Zuckercorn (Henry Winkler): Family attorney, has an interesting sex life.
Lucille 2 (Minelli): Lucille Austero (2) is the chief social rival of Lucille 1. Also suffers from Vertigo; had a relationship with Buster, Carl Weathers, and Gob.
Annyong: The Bluth's adopted Korean son, who kept saying Annyong (hello in Korean) and so the family started calling him that.
Carl Weathers (Carl Weathers): The actor who was in Predator and Happy Gillmore essentially plays himself, as an acting coach for Tobias, but cheap as hell (hey why you throwing out that bone? You take this home, you got a stew!)
The Sitwell's: Stan and Sally; Stan is completely hairless, and Sally (Christine Taylor) is the current object of Michael's admiration.
Ice: The bounty hunter that they used to track down their father when he fled the country to Mexico. Also a caterer (It's not a party without Ice!)

There are other characters, but I've procrastinated studying for this exam enough. :)
