Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

If this is actually ingame (looks like it), why not just let pc gamers take advantage of the effects on display? I never understood why developers would take the time to make a glorified demo and downgrade it when nearing release for every platform.

I don't think development works in the way of hitting effect switches and it universally working as should across the whole game. Every switch flipped probably takes a whole 'nother level of effort and QA to make sure it didn't break the game somewhere down the line/is properly implemented. Getting ports like Sleeping Dogs where the game looks SIGNIFICANTLY better than the console versions is far from the norm, unfortunately. In cases where there's a PC port, but you don't really see the effort to have it stand out as it could, is probably whatever developer figuring that the benefit to be had (PR, sales, etc) by implementing whatever graphical improvements doesn't justify the time to implement the improvements, when the majority of platforms the game is targeting can't handle all the goodness to begin with.

Everything was probably fine and dandy in the vertical slice shown off @ E3. Then reality hit.

Because it isn't. Just as The Division like it looked last year, isn't real. These are small vertical slices that look amazing because they get polished crazy.

But just as the The Division went completely overboard crazy with the enviromental art in one shitty little allyway, Watch_Dogs 2012 went crazy with lighting for one certain scene. The amount of time it would take to perfectly place all these baked lights (because lets face it, we aren't talking about global illumination in this game), for all those different times of day is not possible, in terms of making the game run on anything less resembling the fucking monolith from 2001 and in terms of development time.
Same can be said about the Division.

If you look closely at the Watch Dogs E3 2012 reveal you will notice, that especially the peoples shadows are inconsistent with the lightsources placed around them. Unimportant NPCs had no dynamic shadows at all instead they had only small dark blobs underneath their feet.

Ubi dev "Is there wind in the game?"

The fact he didn't know the game had wind and then answered it in such a PR way has me worried.

Well they confirmed wind, and it effects citizens, trees, rain, fog, litter...

I think he didnt understand the context of the question.. but had the answers...

Some used the lack of wind as part of the downgrade.. so that's disproven

All we need now is some malfunctioning walls or something for the Jericho theme

Hello gentleman, my question is referring to the graphical fidelity of the game. The current build seems to be downgraded from the E3 build, and they now remind me of neogaf admin bishop's ugly retarded face and it's quite disturbing. Please explain. Thank you.

Lmao chat. Wow.

Haha, wow. Aiden wipes rain off of his phone when he uses it while it's raining.

The restoration of faith begins. That's the kind of polish I like to see.

Gee... I wonder if these questions are... pre-prepared?!

Nah!

EDIT: OK, I retract my comment. =P

EDIT 2: Although, it's not impossible that Ubi plants are in the chat posting pre-prepared questions. That's how 9/11 was planned.

Less a possibility, more a guarantee. No doubt whatsoever they have astroturfers posting canned softballs.

I guess ill just get the game and have fun with it either way. Fuck me for have a nice open world playground to enjoy. I agree the visuals dont look as good but i really could careless. Ill play the game for what it is and enjoy it if the gameplay holds up and is fun.

Seeing people like Conrad pretty much be him on twitter this morning was not the type of attitude that should continue with gamers. I am sick of witch hunts on the internet.

How many pages does it take for someone to come in and do one of those awesome summaries? :)

You haven't missed anything. It sounds like they're reading from a list of features.

Watch_Dogs twitch info

The game will include:
systemic gameplay "not Uncharted"
weapons
cars
"choppers" (bikes)
open world
Hacking
crafting (is hacking)
wind

Has there been a suggestion that it won't look like this on PC?

It was a prototype, the final game was not build from that.
This is not a simple change in texture quality or simple physix effects taken off. Whole lighting engine and numerous effects, and more importantly, change in models and animations tell you you are not going to get this on PC, basically because a full game with all this was never made.

You just need to look to the FarCry 3 prototype compared to the final PC version to know it happened the same thing.

Wow they didnt adress the downgrade at all. Only that it is being improved all the time but that is just BS.

Well, look. they clearly didn't expect some sites to start this downgrade thing today. They probably just told an intern to look at twitter and see what questions were popping up the most and then add a few more nonsense loaded questions for good measure.
Those guys from the stream are probably already in the pub as I type this.

The PR people should be in the pub with them because it's gonna be hell for the next few weeks.
