Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

Don't infer anything from what I'm saying that I'm not. I'm talking very specifically about environmental effects. AC4 has a really good distance hazing, small little bits of dust and pollen floating in the air, and trees swaying slightly in the breeze, for example.

Early Watch_Dogs footage was full of such effects. Leaves blowing around. Mist over the water. Dust being moved around. This new footage has lost all of that and it makes the world look empty, fake and lifeless.

OK, sorry to single you out, but there have been a lot of "Even AC4 looks better than this!" comments.

I agree that AC4 isn't a next-gen showcase. Not even close (well, hopefully). But it does look damn good on PS4, especially @ 1080p.

Yeah, playing it right on the heels of Killzone surely hampered my ability to enjoy it on an eye candy level.

Hard to believe that this was the original reveal.

WTF can we hav this gaem back pls Ubisoft

Does anyone remember the 15 minute gameplay demo from September 4th, 2013

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrro1GE9JUI

7 Months ago I was completely happy with the quality of the graphics. This wasn't on an E3 2012 hype machine rig. This was presumably on next/gen dev kits (or the PC version?)
I think we just need to wait for another gameplay demo if they choose to do one on Next Gen hardware specifically. I can't see anyone pre ordering or picking up day 1 until they get some clarification.

I think this too. I cannot believe that people are criticizing so quickly when Ubisoft hasn't even stated what version/gen the footage is.

People are sick of putting up with their shit every release. E3 trailer looks like one thing, final release looks like a bastardized version of it.

Watch it at full res. It really isnt, although it looks super cool. There are a number of upcoming games that look a deal more impressive I would say.
I'm not talking about textures and stuff like that, I'm talking about the dynamics that created a living city.

Here's how it went in my case-

I watched the new trailer on youtube. I thought "Huh, this is obviously the PS3 version. Weird that they would use that for marketing, but whatever. I'm getting the PS4 version so who cares." Then I came here, and people were claiming that, no, it's been officially confirmed it was the PS4 version. That's when my fists started clenching.

Noticeably improved graphics, textures, animation and voice acting. They really did improve and polish this to be as great as possible. :) end of May can't come quick enough. A brilliant treat for finishing 2nd year of Uni!

The words of some hipster on Facebook.

I was pretty meh about the game, but now that it looks bad, I see no reason to buy it. Sick and tired of Ass Creed, so an Ass Creed set in modern times with hacking minigames doesn't really appeal to me.

Canceled because the game looks flat out bad in every aspect. Sure, I'm basing this off the media that's released but it just doesn't look fun at all.

Also, the game has become a huge PR nightmare for them and I doubt they'll be able to win back those who aren't convinced at this point.
The previews have been mostly positive from what I gathered. It might just end up being more in line with Sleeping Dogs than GTA as far as post-story gameplay is concerned.

I'm still looking forwards to the game, but I'll be waiting for version comparisons now. If the PC version is comfortably ahead, I'll be waiting until I upgrade my PC to play it. Pre-order not cancelled, but... you know. This stuff is disappointing for me. I love atmospherics, and it makes such a huge difference. It's why Alan Wake looks great. It's why Shadow Fall looked great. It's a big thing they improved in Tomb Raider DE vs the original version. This stuff really helps sell the atmosphere of an environment. Having seen it there, and then taken out... it's hard for me to not have my disbelief in the world broken every time I look at this footage now.

Where are you getting this information? Looks like the game to me. Just with better graphics. I'm sure it was the game. Having much better graphics then doesn't mean it wasn't the game. What do you think it was?

It was a bullshot target render tech demo, the same as Aliens Colonial Marines. The PC version won't look like that, just like Far Cry 3 didn't look like the E3 demo either.

I'm really not getting that the reveal couldn't have been done on a PS4 or XB1. It wasn't - two 680s or something? - but the actual result isn't the most spectacular graphics showcase I've ever seen. I sincerely think it could be accomplished this gen, easily.

What I'm not getting is the significant downgrade in assets when viewing the PS4 version. That doesn't make any sense aside from rushed, sloppy development. What's the catch?

Watch in HD.

Not sure why th Op didn't post the link, but i guess he has reasons.

Just downloaded both the standard and HD versions. One things for certain...

He did have his reasons for that lil clip.....All I will say is the HD clip looks better. Maybe that one part thats highlighted in the gif looks bad...but overall.....game looks nice. Forgot to add...yea.....seems what we saw at the reveal is not whats in the clips floating around...

But they could have, potentially. The time just wasn't put in.

There wasn't a cotton pickin' thing in the Colonial Marines demo that couldn't be done right here, right now.

I'm probably one of the people on here that care the least about graphic and even I was like "oh what... Is this.."

I guess unless the PC version look much better. That's one more game I will save money on.

This looks fine. I think some of you are just focusing on the shit caps for the controversy. I'll reserve judgement until closer to release.

It does look fine. It doesn't look nearly as good as what they showed off. Im not calling it N64, but its NOTHING like the amazing display they previously showed us. The lighting and atmosphere took it in shorts dude. Its easy to make out.

Okay, I'll be fair to the game. I feel kinda responsible for starting this as I was the first to post a screenshot of the car. This is how the footage looks a few seconds earlier.

This section is pretty much on par with what they showed off last year (the car section). Just when they reach that bridge section and the spotlight where things take a turn for the worst.

Note: btw, this doesn't mean that I'm saying the game looks on par with the reveal.

Except this gif is sped up if the reports of 30fps is true

The allure of this game was for it to achieve both graphics and gameplay. When a team is faced with choosing one, it's a no brainer to choose gameplay so people actually have fun playing it. But the "Holy fuck this is next-gen." feeling is completly lost and replaced with "Can they ever achieve both?" I guess the answer is no.

Maybe someone who knows more about these sort of things can help me.

The UI map makes it look like he should be next to an alley (or that is one very peculiar shaped intersection). However, in the game he is clearly walking up to a road (which would be the lighter colored lines on the UI map as opposed to the shaded ones?).

God damn that looks like shit. I pre-ordered based on that original version, damn it.

I'm not going to cancel since I'm only paying $39 and desperate to play games on my PS4, but describing that downgrade as disappointing would be an understatement.

That's a very wide boulevard he's walking down, but it looks pretty narrow on the mini-map. I think that's what accounts for his little arrow icon looking like it's embedded inside the wall of the building he's walking past.

hahaha, gif runs at 30fps. Taken from a 30fps video, and this section lasts just as long in the video (almost 11 seconds).

Locked 30fps looks this smooth.

if you seriously think that the final game will look/play like that, you're gonna be disappointed.

We've already seen final build footage of gameplay that looks like that.

It's one thing when you have pre-alpha/alpha code and are two+ years out from release and things change (though usually they get better)... It's another when you bust into E3 with a gameplay demo which shows things beyond a conceptual level and you're trying to sell people on a game. One is normal development, the other is manipulative deception.

And my, how things backfire.

I thought that according to reports the closest thing to saving grace here is that at least it runs at 60fps.

“Right now the frame rate we're focussing on [is] a steady 30[FPS],"... "There's always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest.”

"I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it's always capped the same so when you play it it feels right."
