10 bucks says I'm gonna enjoy it much more... *shrug*.

I played 2 hours of gta 5 and was bored out of my damn mind. Then again, I haven't beat a GTA game since 3... But have beat most assassins creeds..

Well yeah Ubi's open worlds are renown for their fantastic fun-packed pacing.

What is it with posts like these lately? Are Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3 now bad games? I don't understand. What do Ubisoft's open world games do that other open world games don't that is suddenly so appalling to some people?

Nah, that can't be real. There is just no way. I don't remember in full detail, but didn't Ubisoft reveal a playable version on one of the night time talk shows? Conan O'Brien maybe??? I remember it looked much better than this and they were supposedly playing it on what I THINK was a PS4 controller. Seems like I cannot find the Youtube footage all of a sudden which is strange.............or is it? Maybe it was running off a high end PC and they were pretending to play it? Does anyone remember the footage?

Its the same b-roll footage that all the sites got. They played the game for an hour on PS4 so there's no reason to believe Ubi sent them back with PS3 footage.

Oh, didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I don't see anything particularly wrong with the footage except for that one spot, the problem is that the reveal makes this look worse.

You're not wrong. They demoed it on there...or Jimmy Fallon. One of the two.

I'm guessing all those vids are down now? It's getting late.

Assassin's Creed, whether you like it or not, has awful pacing, even for an open world.
Ubisoft open world games are filled to the brim with meaningless filler content and junk, not to mention the repetitiveness.

I didn't call them appalling, though Assassin's Creed 3 was, in all honesty.

Far Cry 3 in hindsight was a bloated game with not much merit, regret putting it on my top 10 list in 2012. Assassins Creed has had the same mission design since 2009, and the atmosphere/world building has always been lacking. Side missions and the actual sandbox in Assassins Creed games are mediocre at best, I haven't seen many videos of people messing around with the world and causing neat things to happen.

At the very least it's gonna control a lot better with better core mechanics. If they can just get some exciting missions into the game, I'll be happy.

Maybe.

The driving in GTAV is fantastic for the most part, in WD the physics look a bit stiff, but we'll see.

It seems like WD will have a variety problem, just like most Ubi games, they're very methodically built it seems, and one problem spreads like wildfire in their whole catalogue.
I just think it's silly to expect otherwise after all their previous entries, especially compared to GTAV that in that sense delivered pretty damn decently.

I don't think variety was the problem of GTAV, really.

I'm not demanding of driving physics in open world games, I just need to be able to control the vehicles smoothly. As long as it isn't janky, I'm content. Case in point, Sleeping Dogs provided me with some of the best open world vehicle action of the generation because of the mechanics they wrapped around driving. People complained it was light with not much in the way of physics or nuance like GTA, but I was slowing down time while firing a submachine gun from the window with great accuracy before jumping out of my car to hijack another car in one insane motion. I'm okay with that even if it doesn't have detailed suspension and "difficult to master" drifting and use of brakes.

As for variety, sure that's a legitimate complaint with Ubi's open world offerings, but that's an issue with every open world title. I still don't think GTAV touched San Andreas in variety either. I don't know, it's hard to comment on such a thing without playing first, but I definitely understand why you'd have a concern about it, and I do as well. Still hoping for the best though because I want to like the game.

maybe the developers need to stop setting the bar so high with the vertical slices. debuting a game on monster hardware that 90% of the userbase don't use only sets people up for disappointment when the game does roll around.

my anticipation for the Division just took a nose dive

The informed are disappointed. The uninformed just remember E3.

It's not horrendous but it's definitely still a downgrade relative to the reveal

It's visuals are complimentary as it tries to use the bloom effects and close-ups to give the the trailer the best possible light. Contrast to GTAV where they actually show you panoramic views, wide street shots, country sides and mountainous regions. For an open-world game to resort the "linear-game" like promo materials is very concerning.

This sounds like a very isolated situation, bro. I mean, you beat 3 but not Vice City?

After watching the gameplay posted on that Italian website and also on Gamespot I gotta say that it doesn't look that bad in motion. I'm interested to see if the PC version will look that much different from the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Looking at all of the new trailers vs the older stuff...

I just don't know how to feel. It may not look like complete ass like some were saying in the beginning of the thread....but, the thing that excited me most about the game when it was revealed was the atmosphere. It was gritty. Dirty. Depressing. The wind, the dust blowing. The dirt and the lighting. It was very raw and cold. I think it really captured a certain mood.

I'm not a technical kinda guy in terms of graphics, so I don't really know how to explain all of it in a technical sense, but like, even though the night scenes look good, it's just...missing all of that stuff. It looks stale now....like you're looking at a neat and tidy nighttime cityscape through the world's cleanest glass window. Kind of one-dimensional. If I had to explain it using the audio production terms I'm used to using, it would be as if I took a really nice three dimensional mix of a session, gutted the reverb, panned everything dead center, and stripped away any EQs. Dry and lifeless.

Just my opinion.

Dat downgrade...
If current gen is looking like last gen I don't even want to see the PS3/XB360/WiiU version.
I will probably not buy it on my wii u anymore.

How funny would it be if this downgrade happened so they could hit 60fps thinking that's what enthusiasts (like GAF) wanted?

I'd fucking die laughing.

The Division is totally going to look that good on one platform, not so much the other two.

How funny would it be if this downgrade happened so they could hit 60fps thinking that's what enthusiasts (like GAF) wanted?

I'd fucking die laughing.

They made the right choice, then.

Open World games are ABYSMAL in terms of framerate. if Ubisoft made sacrifices to get a game that ran locked 60fps, they made the right choice.

The reality is Ubisoft targeted high-end PCs (at the time) because the PS4 and Xbox One hardware weren't yet locked into place. Now we all get to see what the game looks like on actual console hardware.

Well, at least The Division isn't cross-gen. So it won't be held back by last gen standards.

Watch how that argument will progress to PC/Current[next-gen] consoles.

How funny would it be if this downgrade happened so they could hit 60fps thinking that's what enthusiasts (like GAF) wanted?

I'd fucking die laughing.

The fact that this is a cross-gen game and not running at twice the frame-rate with next-gen consoles is a fucking joke. How much power does one need to play this game at 60fps when NEXT-GEN consoles can't handle it? Doesn't that strike you as something more hilarious?

Is this the PS4 version? hmm. Maybe it will look better on Xbox One? Thief had a similar outcome.

Really? Out of all the PS4 X1 comparisons...cherry pick the one example that does not flow with the trend of PS4 multplats being superior in every way with every other game comparison? I give you props though for holding on to that kind of positivity for X1 multiplats.

This is why the OP needs to be updated. Everyone is going off just that and losing their minds.

I'll hold final judgement with close to final build or final build because way too many times I've followed the hype in gaf and elsewhere when there was "claims" of this and that and the outcome came out differently such as threads like this. I just find its better to be patient rather than hasty with judgements especially when it comes to a game still in development and the fact we've seen very little in-game gameplay since last year.

Not according to this thread lol

A lot of people would suffer through awful input lag and 15fps if it meant the best LOOKING game. Thankfully, these same people don't make games.

Watch_Dogs is a nice-looking game. Yeah, it doesn't look as good as the target render but that happens every generation. If the framerate is high and responsiveness is good, with what I'm seeing in the videos and GIFs, I consider that a success for the console versions.

All this pointless obsessing over graphics when the pertinent issue is the fact this game will get boring after a few hours. Also, does ANYONE care about this story or main character at all? Has there been a more generic and uninteresting protagonist in a AAA game in the last few years?

You guys. Seriously. The only way to make this stop is to refuse to buy the game. If enough people refuse to buy on this principal of false reveal/misleading information, publishers will eventually stop doing it. It's not right. It's not fair. Think about how little they've shown. Think about the fact that, when the game releases, we'll probably have more footage of the game before the downgrade than after the downgrade. They are intentionally trying to trick people. That's why they have barely shown anything since.

How did Assassins Creed 4 perform on PC?

I'm not sure. I got it for free with my GTX 780, but I sold it as I already had the game on the PS4 and felt no need to go through it again. I "heard" it didn't run so hot, but I imagine that my system could of probably brute forced it at 1080/60. That said, seeing as it's not using the same tech as AC4 I'd hope that it's optimized well enough.
