Watch_Dogs original graphical effects (E3 2012/13) found in game files [PC]

Too bad that the stuttering still remains with TheWorse mod. At least for some users (including me)

A few users say they have stuttering problems even with TheWorse modifications. So I made a quick STUTTERING TEST PATCH that uses the modifications from TheWorse too

https://mega.co.nz/#!aU8HECxA!IiiDbX11J2QM8RR6zFyU8bXKGjvrU6IBb049dy_QU-g

IMPORTANT - READ FIRST!
-----------------------------------------

-This is not a patch to play the game, it procuces a lot of texture aliasing
-This is a stuttering test for people that have stuttering using ultra textures
-It contains a compilation of Ultra textures without mipmaps used as High textures + TheWorse mod 0.7b

So, what's that?
A way to play with ultra textures in 2 GB and maybe less memory gpus. And a test for a possible better future patch.

How to test it:
1. Unrar the file and copy patch.dat and patch.fat into your watch dogs "data_win64" folder (make a backup if you already have a modded patch file)
2. Multigpu users, disable multigpu in your drivers (remember, this is only a test). Recommended to use Adaptative Vsync too.
3. Start the game
4. In the game options menu, select your native resolution, vsync off, max rendered frames = 2
5. Select HIGH TEXTURES!!!! (NOT ULTRA, you will see ultra textures using High texture option)
6. Players with 2 GB of VRAM, set high or medium shadows and reflections.
7. Resume game. You will see a lot of texture aliasing but the stuttering should be reduced.

Share the results. If that patch improves the stuttering for a few users, I will create textures with mipmaps for those that have more texture aliasing.

To uninstall the test patch, delete both patch.fat and patch.dat and restore your old modded patch files in case you had one mod before.

Consoles don't have any CPU or GPU compute advantage. A couple of i5/i7 cores are a match for those 8 core CPUs. The Jaguar cores are about half as capable and half the clock speed on top. Really though, GPU compute is already more of a thing on PC. With PhysX and so on. Plus with much more capable GPUs.

There are a few advantages from a GPU perspective, at least on PS4.

I hope they enae some of these effects on console. A 1080p bump ala AC would be wonderful.

Not over PC. Especially if a good GPU is 3 or more times quicker, and likewise the CPU. We've yet to see anything like even the PhysX effects that are in some PC games, and run well enough on mid-range NVidia GPUs.

I'm curious to see how this all develops. These alterations definitely show some promise. But I think I'll wait to use it until some of the issues with it get resolved. At this point I'm more interested in getting a patch from Ubisoft that fixes the stuttering.

Sorry for being a noob here but how do you install this, not sure if I missed it, I downloaded rar.

extract the rar, there is a readme that explains it. You have to copy two files to the right place and make an edit in the GamerProfile.xml located in your MyGames>Watch_Dogs document folder

You say it like a state of the art PC is what an average PC gamer has. No, it is not. As long as the majority of people play PC games on 4-5 years old setups and don't spend thousands of money on new hardware, PCs on the whole are not actually what you make it out to be. I'd say PS4 has an edge over the general PC market.

Weird, I dont see a read me file, just have three folders, far, closer and normal cam.

Maybe if people try and recreate similar scenes with the new changes.

Do you have the newest version?

I guess he didn't bother including the readme.

I will post the installation part here:

Readme

Installation:

Open one of the folders and put the files inside your data_win64 folder (/yourinstallationpath/Watch Dogs/data_win64)

In order to use my ultra preset you must go to your gamerprofile.xml located in (/documents/My Games/Watch_Dogs/YOUR_PROFILE/gamerprofile.xml)

In render profile find the words quality="_runtime" and change it to "_ultra" save the file and close

Keep in mind if you change the graphical settings from inside the game, the gamerprofile.xml will be set to default again.

Readme /end

No there is not!
The higher number of ACEs are just part of GCN 1.1, the same that is used on a bunch of AMD graphics cards (including the R9 290 and 290X)

Then, about consoles, those effects introduced by the mod aren't undoable on X1 and even less so on PS4. If you dont believe this you obviously are blind/have an agenda. There is nothing fantastic about it that forbid those features to exist on consoles, even more when you take into account the reduced resolution on consoles (a result of the development hell too) and the fact that their CPUs have less and less API overhead (not even taking into account the massive GPU compute advantage they could have in theory right now).

This game has just been rushed to the market, without any polish. The ship has sailed long ago for Ubi. Everything showed in this thread is the result of that, not consoles or conspiracy theories.

The only person that has an agenda is you.

Just because a system can do an effect (no fucking shit) does not mean that it fits within the game's rendering budget on that system.

Awesome shots. Do you have Disable Heli yet?
Just gorgeous.
This really won't do!
I don't think he's downsampling for this shot at all, so I think it's actually pretty darn good
I liked that he had something to say about this, but I think he would have had more to say if he had brought up / seen this. (It would have been glorious)

This is starting to grate on me a little bit. In context, that comment is closer to the opposite of what it's being made out to be than what it's being made out to be.

No matter how many pictures I see with these mods, it still doesn't look as good as the reveal. This was some serious downgrade Ubi did.
it will never do because people is already predetermined to see the game with different eyes, even if it ended up looking better most people will say it looks worse, is just the way people brains are wired

As several others have pointed out, this is misleading. It's from a shader related to the PS3/360 version of the game. Both PS4, Xbone AND PC will use the "who cares" path.

Even though this is a pretty embarrassing moment for Ubisoft, that code comment means absolutely nothing. It has already been explained- I don't need to add anything to it. If TB brought that up as something bad, I would have been disappointed, as I follow his videos and generally like his arguments even though I may not fully agree with him. Everyone is blowing this particular code comment so out of proportion that I almost feel bad for the people working at Ubisoft.

The hype behind this mod (and I will call it a mod, thank you) is way overblown. It adds some DoF, buggy headlight shadows and overkill bloom.

What it does NOT do, is make the game look like E3 2012 demo.

In any case, the game looked great in vanilla state already anyway, on ultra at least.

I agree. That reveal got me so hyped, I'll be disappointed no matter what, sadly. Game still looks great, though. The reveal was just that good.

No doubt. But normally we see varying levels of spin. This isn't even spin. It's just a bald faced lie.

If there were bugs and issues with these graphical effects, that is precisely why they weren't in the final game. I work in software and just because a feature isn't exactly working, doesn't mean you just take it out when you can disable it and maybe work on it later. I really think this is an overall slight overreaction until we have more concrete evidence.

Are there any one-to-one shots comparing how it looks with and without the patch? Preferably without the insane amounts of DOF added.

I just can't believe that despite all of the evidence, Ubisoft remains vigilant in their stance.

I'll continue to buy your games for $5 on PC then, Ubi.

You have to admit, even if there was a misunderstanding if he did bring it up, it would be hilarious to see his rant. Lol

In the XML if you change it to ultra you're not expected to change anything in game? Does it override BC my in game settings are not showing all ultra and certain things are turned off like dof. Can you change the XML o high too or is ultra the only choice?

The XML edit is the tricky concept so if someone could focus on that it would be helpful.

It's getting closer, but the more you look at those shots the more you realize that they traded clarity for artistry.

I really want the good explosions back. Even Ubi can't deny those were downgraded.

Downsampling only cleans up the aliasing. The only way I know to take a downsampled shot is because it looks good @ 2560x1440 (which runs 50-60 fps for me).

I'm constantly running into scenarios where I want to take a screenshot, and that's indicative of a game that looks good (to me, of course). So I'm really enjoying it. Both playing and shooting. Though cop chases with helicopters are starting to piss me off.
When doing anything else but aiming with a gun, you rarely can aim high enough to get the disable helicopter prompt to show up. Sometimes even while aiming, you can't get a high enough angle. It's super stupid. So yeah, as they are currently, helicopters do nothing but frustrate and make you want to have a boat ready for a quick escape instead of bothering with all the stuff they've put in the game to make these chases fun and compelling.

Getting Aiden to sit his dumb ass down in a boat is a similarly frustrating venture by the way.

Fix this shit, modders.

Yeah I am really shocked no one seems to have done this yet. I would do it myself but I'm at work now. Tested it out last night and WOW! It looks incredible.

I simply can not understand why Ubisoft would disable these options in the PC version. The craziest part is that it barely effects performance either!

Now if they can just release that patch that fixes the stuttering some time soon and I'll be very happy. I do really love the game but the stuttering kills it. Fix that and add this amazing patch and it's close to the game I was hoping it would be!

If no one else does it, I'm going to create some comparison shots myself tonight!
