Watch_Dogs |OT| PS4 would probably melt trying to do this

This game looks amazing even with the downgrades.

The QR code investigations remind me of those Riddler puzzles (where you have the form "?") from the Batman games.

Anyone else got the same vibe?

It is a shame the lighting seems so bland. Ubi is probably aiming for a realistic look, but I can't help but think a bit more contrast would do wonders for the daylight graphics. PC modding community to the rescue (I hope, even some decent SweetFX tweaks might be enough).

The fact that there's still no pre-load on Steam drives me insane. Retail copies can be activated and played, and even downloaded from Uplay and we don't even get a pre-load? There was one for AC3 and AC4 so I hope they'll at least let us download the game tomorrow already..

Agreed. It looks oddly flat overall, but especially daytime.

I haven't been reading this thread, so to the folks who've picked up and played the game early, what's the consensus? Worth buying?

It's hard to say. For me, it's quite average as everything is done better in other games and the story is fun to laugh at (With Aiden's gravely voice pushing Hayter in MGS4), but not good. Drivings a bit stiff, but you get used to it, while shooting isn't even as good as GTA. Stealth approach is the most fun you can have with the main story missions, but some require some shooty bang, so you can't rely on it. I also find the fall damage to be a little overkill, which I find restricts me in some ways

If someone has not yet played Saints Row 2-3 or Sleeping Dogs, I'd recommend they go grab one of those first. There's fun to be had here, but I'd probably feel bad recommending this to someone full price. If you can get a good deal? Yeah, I'd say it's worth £20 or so.

The best parts are the hallucination mini-games and the fact that the physics seem to go a bit mad if you dive out of a fast moving car. I keep landing on the covers above doors of shops, although sometimes I get launched too high and die.

I'd hold off and hope that Ubi aggressively drop the price like they do for their end of year releases.

Any old timers having flashbacks to Midtown Madness looking at these screens?

lol yeah, they were a few comparison shots posted earlier that did look similar, especially the cereal box buildings.

Slightly better but it's never going to be a replacement for proper lighting

EDIT : edited to include realtime bloom

Looks a lot better. It is indeed in no way a replacement, but man those colors really needed to 'pop' a bit more like that.

Thanks for the comparison mate.

The bottom pic is actually how it looks on my Sammy, I do have 4:4:4 chroma and deep colour on aswell

That was pretty good, definitely would have beaten me. Not sure how I feel about losing points for failing to stop the intrusion, has me hoping I'm not too bad at it (or come across anyone as good as you are). It does look really interesting though.
The loss/gain of points depends on the difference in your skill levels. He was actually higher than me, hence the reason i got a big payout at the end (600ish). Plus, if you get matched with another player who is not on the same level with you, it will tell you what the risk/reward is before accepting the contract.

It's funny how your impressions are the direct opposite of more detailed impressions by other people in this thread. It seems like you have your own personal agenda to turn people off from the game

Man, it's super frustrating that there's no native melee button in this game. You can't just walk down the street sucker punching people, which is shame when you're walking by scumbags who "frequent racist blogs", are "acquitted of child pornography charges", etc.

I would argue that both the games you listed, SR 2-3 and SD are average games and I wouldn't say they are even in the same league as WD, lot alone GTAV
Sleeping Dogs is good and is close, but not that good.

I disagree. I think the shooting is better in Watch_Dogs. It's smooth. I have no issue with the aiming. In GTAV, I resorted to the "snap-aim" constantly because the manual aiming in that game was so clunky, which cheapened it and made it kinda not fun and overall frustrating. Experiencing none of that with W_D.

I excluded GTA5 from the list on the assumption that most people had played it, but I'd put the SR games ahead of Watch Dogs just because it's pure fun and I actually want to do things within the sandbox. The lack of melee on peds hurt it a little bit in that respect. I found the main story missions in Sleeping Dogs a lot better and I'm halfway into Act 2. Maybe I just really dislike Aidens character. It is touch and go between the 2 for me, but I'd recommend Sleeping Dogs to anyone who hasn't played it due to the fact you can find it a lot cheaper and hopefully, find this cheaper by the time you're done.

I'm finding that the opposite is happening. The target flies about a bit too much. I may try my DS4 instead of X360 to see if it changes things for me as it might be the smaller range of the sticks now I'm very used to the DS4

Games runs like shite on my GTX 670 and i5-3570... =(

Turn textures to medium, you'll then be able to turn level of detail to ultra which isn't the greatest trade off, but it's pretty good looking still. Working fine on my i5 2500k, 8GB & 560ti (albeit in 720p due to my TV).
