Watch_Dogs |OT| PS4 would probably melt trying to do this

I'd like one question to be answered, why is Watch Dogs the only title that is drawing all this weird commentary? No one has even played the game yet and everyone already has their own conclusions and opinions.

My guess is that because it has taken such a long time to come out. Remember it was shown at E3 2012 and was suppose to come out in holidays last year. Up until that delay everyone wanted it, then something snapped and here we are. 50 different versions (packaging) is complete bullshit, but other than that Ubisoft has been all right to this game.

I think Morin said that the map is smaller than GTAV's but with less "useless" space.

I'm thankful. Most of GTA V felt like a waste of space. I never did anything in Sandy Shores, or in the water.

Except collect nuclear waste.... probably the most mind numbing collectable I ever spent time gathering in a game

I've been wondering that myself for some time. I mean I understand skepticism in the wake of the downgradaton but no other game sees half this much scrutiny around here, it's god damn nuts sometimes. Someone posts a 7 minute long gameplay video and the first comment will be "At 3:14 I noticed that one of the NPCs has a rough looking model
and that's literally all I'm going to take away from this seven minute video because herpaderp
"

here's the leaked maps I could find:

what fucking city is this lmao

I totally understand changing environments for gameplay's sake. The loop looks okay, but damn the rest of that ain't Chicago.

I just think its GAF's hardcore personality. This community is comprised of a fair number of hardcore players who will scrub through the 7 minute footage to get whatever details they can, and will put games under the microscope. I guess this is a good and bad thing, but damn do some games get some rather hot heated debates going. That and hype trains on GAF always seem to end in crashes.

This is about 1/4th of the map size. The city is big, it seems bigger than GTAV's Los Santos. Of course, it doesn't have the huge stretch of land outside of the city like GTAV has. It does have some rural areas though.

Edit: why am I even here, I wonder, as I browse through the last couple of pages.

You wouldnt want it as big as GTA entire map without being able to fly planes/helis. Man i wish they let you have some aircraft

Nope, and it's probably the main reason I'd hold off getting the game if I was in the position to pick it up next week. I'd be too busy noticing all the things that weren't right, just like I was scratching my head at some of the footage over the years wondering what city they had researched instead. It sounds a bit silly that such things would distract me from enjoying a game, but I was looking forward to a game set in the city.

I guess that's better than freaking out about certain lighting flatness or if A.I. will accurately shit under the overpasses.

Yeah. I am still baffled by this. I usually lurked GAF around e3 time for the gifs and live forum reactions.

I though GAF was a magical place of hype and somewhere where people loved games.

I was wrong. Probably the most cynical and nitpicky communities I have been a part of. I think GAF's reactions to WD has actually made me cynical of people even though I am typically optimistic.

GAF is where your innocence comes to die.

But atleast you get news fast.

As a Chicagoan, I know it'll be disappointing like Seattle in Second Son was to Seattlites.

Again, I can't blame them for making changes, because varied environments are important, but...ugh. :( I'll just never leave the downtown area if I can help it!

edit: just remembered footage from a baseball stadium that was on the west side of the city? laughed way too hard at that.

It's not. The long and short is that fake demos are a scummy thing to do.

Can't wait for the sequel. Watch Doggies, Air Bud 2.

This is worse than shit posting. At least shit posters put some effort into it.

This?

Zero effort. Hell, this could even be anti effort.

I feel like you have literally siphoned effort from everyone who reads that post.

But then... did you put a lot of effort into a post that was intentionally so bad?

Because thats a stroke of genius then.

Or maybe I am giving you to much credit.

I don't think it is cynicism. If gaf was made of cynics we would not have a support group thread for The Last Guardian. Does the conversation at gaf get hyperbolic? Yes, that is the nature of gaf.

Yeah... I think you are right about hyperbole > cynicism.

Most of these hype gifs should exist if these people where cynical about games....

Still annoying though.

You think you're safe downtown in the game. Ha!

And yes, that was one of the major head scratchers, though I couldn't remember why at the time it was rubbing me wrong. The other one is the tables with umbrellas being right next to the street in the 2012 footage. They are up against the buildings, if not under an already suitable awning. It wasn't that impressive back in 2012 folks. Love, Chicago.
:p

Wonder what these rural areas areas are. Next to Casinos maybe? Parks over by La Rabida Hospital? Gary next to I-80/90? Nothing but industrial chemical swamps and chain link fences right outside the city in the 'rural' parts.

This game has been a hype rollercoaster for me. It had ups and downs but as of right now my hype level is at roughly 70% which is enough for me to pre order it. I'll get Transistor tomorrow and finish that before touching Watch_Dogs, though.

I think the problem was that EVERYONE crowned it the winner of e3 and best thing to ever be when it really wasnt. I thought it was cool and I still think it is cool. My hype meter never surpassed being the greastest game ever like people said when it was first revealed. I really wish it came out at launch of ps4 because assassins creed 4 was really not that fun for me.

I think the problem is that people saw the graphics and expected the game to look like that on the new consoles, which hadn't been revealed yet and had no chance of having enough power for an open-world game with soft shadows and global illumination (At least at release, maybe we'll see this later in the gen). So now that they actually need to get the game to run on last-gen and current-gen consoles and not just high end PCs, people are disappointed it doesn't look the same, even if 95% of them wouldn't have been able to play it the way it was.

I think people are tired of waiting and just want to play the damn game. I won't buy it day one but I'll eventually pick it up unless it's utter shit, which I don't think it can be

But it wasn't fake though? It was a demo that Ubisoft were projecting could be possible on the current-gen consoles, but turned out it wasn't quite as close due to the rather unknown specs. Of course, it would have been in their best interest to say all that at the demo showing, but the nitpicking and panty twisting isn't as deserved as some expect.

THEY HAVE TO KNOW OR WE'VE FAILED!!!!!!!!

Holy shit, cars in my open-world. One thing that truly annoyed me the most in GTA V was the quite light traffic conditions that never made the world feel "dense."

Its even worse considering the animation director said that they didn't get the PS4 specs until the reveal event, and were using PC footage they hoped could be done on PS4.

Is anyone double dipping with this game? I've pre-ordered the PS4 version, but I'm tempted to get the PC version considering it's cheap on Green Man Gaming.

Paid DLC perhaps? Would not put it passed them to do so.

Game looks ok in leaked vids. Not the revolution it was originally touted as, but at least competent open world fun.

Wait, hold up.

Doesn't the PS4/PS3 versions get 3 extra missions as an exclusive deal with Ubisoft, which I assume are.. 'Palace Pack', 'Signature Shot Pack', and 'Breakthrough Pack'? Yet they are in the season pass aren't they?

Jesus... Are you guys riding the iambladders-train now? Wtf is happening to this forum?
Being sceptic is okay, but actively trying to convince other people that the game is shit and trying to convince them to not buy the game, all based on the premise that the game doesn't look 100% like the 2012 verticle slice concept on a high end PC when they didn't have devkits yet?
Wow.. I'm sure Ubi can be blamed for certain things, but it's not like the devs themselves didn't work their asses off to deliver a nice open world experience for us to enjoy. It's almost as if people can't wait for the game to get very poor reviews. "Rejoice, the game has failed. We succeeded".

This is obviously going to be a case where 'negative noise' is still positive. This game is landing in the midst of a drought, with people clamoring for it since 2012. This game is going to sell bonkers, even if it won't get the same reviews ( or media treatment ) as GTA 5.

Looks like I'm getting a free uplay copy since I recently bought a gtx 770, so I should probably play this

I'm pretty sure the majority of the posts in this OT are being sarcastic.

Game will look like this on PC max.

EDIT - Why the fuck are people quoting images on same page?
Game better look like that at least on PC max settings considering that vertical slice is 2 years old and was running on PC hardware at that time. ;)

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
I don't know, can we get a poll going who's still buying Watch_Dogs?
I'd love a new PS4 game - let alone a co-op one - but damn all this shit.

-Severe graphics downgrade
-Release day review embargo
-5 collectors editions/several others. No one complete edition

I've gone from day one to maybe not at all; I feel buying this game is a statement of itself.
-The graphics downgrade is not "severe." Do we have to bring up the trailer that everyone said "oh this looks amazing ps4 will never look like this it'll melt" because they assumed it was the pc version.
-Many critically acclaimed triple A games have a release day embargo so there's no reason to point it out here like it's abnormal, where were all the release day embargo skeptics when Child of Light, Transistor, South Park:SoT all had release day embargos?
-Games releasing in tons of different areas usually have several editions, that's not something that's odd or abnormal either considering it applies to other franchises and companies as well.

jesus... i don't understand every nut, bolt and screw of some people here "look how big the notebook look here wtf?" etc..

And no, i don't work for Ubi or any freaking game company...

Yeah, i was also kinda shocked after seeing the "jump of the bridge" trailer regarding the downgrade. Yes, Ubi did a shit job with the 2012 trailer regarding the expections. Then i saw the pc requirements (i don't do pc) i had the feeling, that they didn't optimize the game.

Anyway, i canceled my preorder after seeing the trailer. And i'm done with this.
We know, it's downgraded. And no one is happy about it, Ubi too (i think...)...

But some people here, i just don't know what to say. The last couple days, since the leaked Beta stuff, are just hiliarious. Over and over searching every freaking detail to argue about it. First, a betatest is a freaking BETAtest. It's about testing the stability and if it is bug free. Rarely regarding graphics. It was only 16gigs from what i read, or?
Well, i don't think it was the final "form" but if i'm wrong , then shoot me. But some people should wait, before jumping on the horse heading to the "redwedding of Ubisoft".

Neither of us saw the final product. I'm not planning to buy it on release day or the next weeks, i will wait for more, real reviews/hands one/videos and not be part of the "who is the best squirrel"-contest.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. sorry for my bad english...

Got the PC version pre-ordered thanks to that Origin India price. I honestly don't believe I've ever had this lack of hype for something I've actually pre-ordered before.

EDIT: Wonderful OT though.
