Yes, that's what I am saying. Thing is, the player seemingly gets the same type of notification so it's not really clear if it's a hack or just a tail at first.
But the idea is that you literally get "You are being invaded" the instant a tail enters your game?

Yes, I think that's true. I never got the "you have successfully been tailed" notification without being alerted beforehand.

Yep. Remember that The Division is for PS4, XBONE, and PC only. Not last gen hardware.

I had a tail invasion where I was notified. I never saw the guy. I got a notification that someone was invading my game. I switched to a camera and started scanning around the area. I took too long, and then the game notified me that I was successfully tailed. Here is the video:

Until I see otherwise, which I'm not sure how someone could prove it, you are not tailed in your game without the game notifying you it's happening.
You had him in your line of sight at the 10 second mark. =)
I've had at least one where I was notified, and one where I tried to start a mission and got locked out (I then got "you are being invaded"), and just now had one where I had no notifications and thought it was a tail but apparently was a hacker who didn't start the hack and just ran away even though I hadn't profiled him?
Is it possible that for a tail, you get the "You are being invaded" message when you start being observed?

They come up very infrequently for me. They appear on the map just like a Potential Crime Mission would. I am still in Act 1, so that might be why I haven't seen many. I think I've had two so far.
You must have played many hours by now dude? I'm the same as you though, that's probably why I play very little games a year. I buy more games than I play, such a bad habit.

Haha! I totally did! I had my focus on getting access to the camera. He was behind the camera's range which is why I never picked him up. Nice catch!

Profiling a knitting enthusiast on the corner wearing a tube top and fishnets. Occupation: escort. She's texting so I hack it:
"Back to the office?"
"Yes. Super slammed."
"What does that mean?"
"It means no time to answer retarded questions"
Then she starts walking away and a random passerby is all "Hey girl!" and she just keeps walking and he's like "Oh you're playin me. gonna play me a little bit, alright."
Man if that text conversation was from a random pool it was a lucky break

Anyone have some tips on how to avoid police ctOS scans? I can escape the cops just fine, but those scans... They always get me :/. I finally completed the "Under Construction" side mission (steal a car) after 2 hours of failing/resetting because of those damn things.

That would be consistent with the hack invasions. You only get notified when someone initiates the hack. They have 5 minutes to hack you, and another 30-45 seconds to initiate the hack.
It's probably the same for the tail mission, where you get notified as soon as someone profiles you to start the observation.

You can use "Jam Comms" and it will jam the yellow circle scans for a short period.

You can stop them for a while using the jam comms - makes it easier to avoid them.

That would explain the one that just happened to me, where I never had any notification and the guy just took off, so maybe that is how it goes
I thiiiink you can profile a dude for a gang hideout in the first section of the city...

Not that the PS4 could do it anyway but it's frustrating that this doesn't have custom soundtracks. The included list of licensed music is largely crap and the "playlist" framing of music in the game is absolutely perfect for custom tunage.
Pretty sure you have to at least do a mission or two first before random guys on the street start making side missions appear.

This post does me good. It took me about 45 minutes to complete Under Construction. It was the first mission I stumbled upon so I figured it should have been an easy one. Escaping the cops was doable, but I kept getting caught by these circles. And when the helicopter joins the party after that I can just give up already since I only had a simpel handgun. The time I made it I ended up in some park amongst people enjoying a relaxing day out
Going to unlock my first ctos tower now, let's see how that goes.

Got it yesterday. I only got the notification someone tailed me successfully once. I've mostly had people try to hack me.
But I have killed a lot of people who invaded me.
Best tip is to keep invading other players, since your chances of being invaded increase greatly.
That's a craftable item, right? I think I'm lacking in materials for those right now (super early in the game). Should prove useful later, I'll make sure to stock up on them next time! Thanks for the help!

You don't know if you're being tailed. You know that you've been invaded. The person invading may be tailing you closely or may be hightailing it away from you to hide.

But the only reason you were notified is because you tried to request a tail contract. That's just the game telling you that you can't do that now because someone is already in your game.
If you're just going about your own game not trying to do a single player mission or trying to initiate an online session, you'll never know someone is tailing you unless they're doing dumb stuff or you're profiling and happen to catch them.

I had a hard time with that mission too. You kind of have to get lucky of where you are when the cops lose you and the tracers comes. If the tracers get you it's over as you have zero chance of escaping the helicopter early in the game.
Yeah. I got of my car the first time to see if I can hack it because I saw people do that in streams before the game was out. But that's something you'll have to unlock I guess. I died pretty fast once I was out of the car.
I also tried parking my car in a secluded alley and hiding in it. But once the circles caught me the police was up my ass in no time.

I got tailed in the game and only knew due to my phone being put away and my pause not working. I found him and killed him.
I did NOT get notified.

You are not notified when you are being tailed unless you profile your tailer first, or try to start a mission or anything else that requires you to be alone. Think of all the times you tailed someone successfully and they were just going about their business unlocking a collectible.
You are notified that you are being invaded if you try to start a mission while someone is in your game (it has to tell you why you can't start a mission after all). You get a purple circle around the enemy's area. This can show up before they start to backdoor or observe you. This way I was able to see that someone that someone had invaded me, but while searching for them the game stopped and said I was the victim of a successful tail.
