I don't understand.

She gained over half a million followers and WNBA ratings will "Skyrocket" because somebody was pulled to the floor?!

That's it?

She stuck up for her teammate Caitlin Clark who is basically the Lebron of the WNBA after she got hit in the face by committing that hard foul essentially. That's why.

That makes way more sense now. Its like the stanley cup craze that happened a few years back. With no context it was weird, but what happened was that a girl had her car catch fire and after it was all doused out, she posted that her cup that was in the fire still kept the drink cold. I think the company then responded by giving her a new cup after the post too for good pr but idk.

Someone explain to me like I'm 5. Is it anyone other than guilt ridden liberals watching this shit?
Here's my hot take. It very well could be entirely wrong.

This week there has been a lot of talk about the WNBA on sports radio around Caitlin Clark.
She's a draw and a good player, however, she is white.
I guess some of The Powers That Be in the WNBA that are horribly racist and hate her because she's white. From there the league has basically been walking all over her and treating her like pariah, even though she is talented and a draw.
This means lots of physical fouls, race blaming, and race shaming for pretty much everything. She can never do anything right, because she's talented and white.

The radio hosts were wondering out loud why the WNBA isn't putting her front and center and making her the face of the league, it's because the league is horribly racist and hate that a white player is good and a draw. It sucks because it seems like they all know this, but can't say it.

It's soo fucking frustrating because sooner or later someone's going to literally kill this woman from all the hate she's getting, or at a minimum leave the league early due to injuries.

It's frustrating because of the absurdity of the situation. I thought we were all moving past this stuff. But now this level of hypocrisy is insane and terrible because it's happening, even worse nobody is pointing it out.

So, another white player stands up for her. Race riots ensue.

Kinda hard to see what's going on in the OP, but as some of you may know Caitlin Clark has been getting bullied by other girls in the WNBA trying to get some spotlight of their own

Cunningham was just getting revenge on the big b*tch that knocked Clark down after getting decked on the face?

WNBA has been really good lately. the angel reese Mebounds memes are also good xD

In case ya'll needed an analysis from a delusional person that lives in a basement trying to confirm his racist worldviews by projecting them onto others

I understand that but I just meant the people watching female basketball. It's horrendously boring.

I'm not looking for confirmation on anything, and prefaced this could be entirely wrong, but that's my perception why the league treats her like absolute garbage.

Explaining to a 5-year-old about something that happened in a basketball game: So, are you familiar with the concept of race shaming?

Isn't that part of the standard Kindergarten curriculum these days?
Yes, I'm joking, but yes I literally didn't explain it down to 5 year old levels.

Anything to make it about race lol.

That makes no sense anyways because the woman who punch Clark is white, Clark is white, Cunningham is white, the woman she pulled to the ground was white, everyone involved was white.

Clark gets all this hate because she's great at the game. If you're insanely good at what you do... you'll always have haters. Bron haters, Curry haters, Brady haters, they all have haters. It ain't race.

The league allowed the precedent that anyone can take their shots against Clark without penalty, so the blood is in the water. All players will take advantage of this to try and knock her down a bit to improve their chances of winning.
That isn't about race.
However the league optics on how they're handling it make it look like racism to me.

You have to admit that it is kinda funny that they asked for a simple explanation and you built a vast conspiracy of racists.

Sure, it wasn't my intention to frame it that way.

Do you have any opinions as to why Caitlin Clark is being treated this way? To me, it's unprecedented.

I don't know shit about the WNBA. So I really couldn't say.

But up-and-coming star players getting laid into by opponents looking to make a name for themselves or take out their frustrations isn't a new thing. I certainly wouldn't expect racism to be the reason behind it.

It's not just your perception, anyone that's followed Clark since she's joined the WNBA agrees with this assessment.

Still don't get it. I see events like that weekly in Rugby and football (soccer for you Americans).

Maybe it's an American thing that I just don't get?

In which case, I'll see myself out. Cheers.

The ladies in the wnba probably are tougher than most of the guys in the nba. I'm only 1/2 joking.

Regardless, they are certainly getting lots of media play right now and more people are watching.

In soccer?! Seriously? They roll on the ground the second the wind blows the other way.

Basketball is not as physical as Rugby and Soccer and isn't meant to be played like shown above. It was basically her teammate (Cunningham) retaliated by committing a hard foul on the person who punched/pushed Clark. She's being praised and gaining more followers because of it.

Twitter is trying to make this a black on white crime but the latest incident was clearly all white women vs white woman. Women fucking hate each other out of jealousy. it's not a stereotype. we are seeing this happen right in front of our eyes.

They hate clearly the most talented woman to play baseketball in years. She's the meal ticket. She's the reason why they can now fly charter. And they are literally fucking abusing her.

Good to see this chick come to her aid, but her teammates have not stood up for her at all. because they are jealous of her too. In baseball, this would never fly. You hit one guy and benches clear. He doesnt even have to be your best player.

Women need to get over their hate for other women and realize kids are watching this. You will always have fights in professional sports with high stakes and adults can at times act like children. We've seen it in football, baseball, NHL, but what Caitlan Clark is going through right now is pure hatred.

Caitlin Clark is singlehandedly making the WNBA relevant for the first time in history. The WNBA lost money every single year since it was founded, anywhere from $10-$50 million annually for 30 years. It's subsidized entirely by the men's league.

Caitlin has a target on her back with other players and the WNBA "Old Guard" due to her popularity. The last stat I saw was 17% of all flagrant fouls in the WNBA are committed against her.

The league and refs aren't protecting their golden goose - which has drawn a ton of criticism. Not only that, but the league has also been fumbling the PR surrounding her and even snubbed putting her on the Olympic team.

Fans have called repeatedly for an Enforcer to step up and go after players taking cheap shots at Caitlin. Sophie Cunningham finally did it.

Best part of all this is I haven't really seen CC complain about the fouls and will often even downplay them -- if you watch post game itv she'll usually say that it wasn't malicious, it it was just an emotional moment in a good competitive basketbal game, etc and sometimes go as far as to compliment the other team. I think she's earning a lot of respect from the old guard for doing that

She has a really strong mental approach that makes her a great role model for girls (and boys) IMO

Caitlin Clark joined the WNBA not long ago and is being seen as the big superstar of the game, which has been causing the league to gain more viewers and more traction.

The recognition is trickling down to other new standouts and veterans, but the problem is that some of this recognition is happening due to flagrant fouls, fighting, and other unsportsmanship behavior.

There are two ways the WNBA can go with this:

1) Try and clean shit up so that they don't lose traction over these constant squabbles.

2) Lean into the rough aspects and make it part of the appeal, like Hockey or to a lesser degree, 80/90s basketball.

I don't know her, but seeing these clips make me believe she is trash.

I mean, in this instance she did the right thing protecting their star player who is always getting mugged by opposing teams

But she is very likely trash

And also a total smoke show

Its just straight up racism, jealousy, and pettiness as far as I'm concerned. This clip is of the white chick who fouled Clark hard but angel reese is leading the charge against Clark. Its so fucking dumb.

Your post is a months-out-of-date take that is too much of a conspiracy stretch at this point in time.
  • Connecticut is where the WNBA Suns are located.
  • Angel Reese is a Chicago Sky player.
  • The person the OP is talking about is on Caitlin's team, which is Indiana.
All of the people who made these fouls in OP's videos are caucasian. This is why the conversation has moved on from Angel Reese to the WNBA being too aggressive as a whole.

Your implication is that Angel Reese, from Chicago, is influencing players of the same race as Caitlin Clark, across the league, to engage in bad faith fouls with her. It makes about as much sense as the guy I quoted above who randomly brought up a political party when women's versions of sports have existed for decades.

Must be nice to enjoy watching some pro basketball when some of us are actually getting ready for the upcoming race wars ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

My cousin who is uneducated, brainwashed by conservative media and possibly legally braindead started watching the wnba after he's been knocking it our entire lives is actually watching the games now because it makes him feel like he belongs on Team White. Never thought I'd see the day

Edit also since is now the official wnba thread

😋

No, my friend. You are referring to the Dark Arts. AKA cheating. Faking a foul to waste time, get a free kick etc.

Fights break out in football weekly at all levels of the game.

Kind of makes more sense. US sports are less rough and violent and in the UK and Europe, so when it kicks off in in the US it's a big deal.

I was being a shit and playing into the meme. A sport where you can legally slide tackle will ruffle some feathers for sure.

Wtf, she didn't even do anything. The girl looked like she was already falling and mfers out acting like she's gangster now.

I don't understand.

She gained over half a million followers and WNBA ratings will "Skyrocket" because somebody was pulled to the floor?!

That's it?
She's Caitlin Clark's teammate. Caitlin took a foul getting scratched under the eye. The scratcher approached her and Caitlin gave her enough of a shove to let her know to back off. Bigger girl bodied Caitlin to the floor. Later, girl that butted in and bodied Caitlin got grabbed by Sophie on a hard foul driving to the bucket.

Sophie is also a black belt, and hot as FUGG!

I hate athletes that behave shitty.

It's why I can't really get into any US sport.

but i also know rugby generally just has a different vibe to most sports.

tensions get heated in rugby, but if they a throw a fist or take it one step further than "handbag fights" it's considered extremely shitty and they'd lose respect from fans, not gain noteriety.

football however... those guys are just drama queens, it's tough to watch actually.

But i agree it's an American thing i don't get, to me this is shitty sportsmanship (sportswomanship) but people get like praised for being shitty.

That was a lot about nothing IMO. There is some contingent of people trying to make Caitlin Clark and the WNBA happen, and it's completely 'inorganic'. Like I feel like I'm being marketed to by bots or something every time I read something about it. I can admit that Clark is probably a generational talent, but it's still not exciting or fun to watch, in my opinion. Also, these type of headlines get blasted to the top because of 'stronk womyn' stuff. A situation like this in a men's league wouldn't even get a photo in an online write-up about the game.

Still, it's nice to see somebody's teammate have their back.

Dude I know what I said. Its straight jealously and racism directed at Clark. There isn't a conspiracy; all Reese has to do is shit talk and keep committing flagrant fouls on her. Everyone knows Reese hates Clark and her actions against her werent penalized enough. So it's open season on clark who has brought tons of attention to the league
