We were 100% right about how DLSS 5 works

TLDR: It's takes 2D frames from game + motion vector derived from them and generates Slop frame to replace those original frames.

I said exactly this in our DLSS 5 threads.

Well, now I feel sheepish for taking even an iota of Nvidia at their word. I was already grossed out by the faces, but the lighting "improvements" were something I considered potentially promising depending on implementation by the developer. Turns out, it's not part of the pipeline, it's just an after-the-fact slop filter.

"Slop Frame"!!! Love it.

We have MicroSlop and now Nvidia Slop Frame technology. What will $600 billion buy us next!? 😉

Edit: also, shame on all the Nvidia defenders. Jensen lied as usual and people were dunking on Steve from GN instead.

Sorry, was that ever a secret? Nvidia themselves pretty much describe that on their HP.
It's a fucking ai filter with motion vectors and colour readout for stabilization.
It has no access to actual geometry or lightsource information.. it's mostly hallucination aka slop.

So it's working like DLSS. Get input from the engine to help clean the picture.
The only thing is it goes much further than trying to hide the pixels and it's ugly.
Kind of what I expect and the message from nvidia was really confusing.

Jensen didn't help. Wtf does this mean:
"The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses controllability of the of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI," Huang continued.
He added that developers can still "fine-tune the generative AI" to make it match their style, adding that DLSS 5 adds generative capability to the existing geometry of the game, but that it "doesn't change the artistic control."

"It's not post-processing, it's not post-processing at the frame level, it's generative control at the geometry level," he said.

When you conclude it with this?
"All of that is in the control — direct control — of the game developer," he said. This is very different than generative AI; it's content-control generative AI. That's why we call it neural rendering."

Who is this mythical we. I thought there were different individuals here.

...unless you're referring to my multiple personalities, in which case, we agree.

Nvidia went over to nexusmods and realized the most downloaded mods turned the characters into sex puppets and decided, you know, I think we can help with this.

I don't see the point in being anything but transparent about this. After all, this is geared towards the GPU enthusiast community, who usually have at least a basic understanding of technology or follow tech-savvy channels. Is it to avoid an initial backlash? Anyway, it wasn't going to go well, especially not by calling it DLSS5.
