Odd, early estimates ranged from 39.2 (HSX) to 41.6 (Movie City News). I think that's actually a fairly disappointing number.. but I hope it can get to 100 million for my HSX stock.

It is unlikely to make it to $100 Million for the weekend.

That being said, I doubt it will repeat Azkaban's Saturday drop. Azkaban opened huge on Friday but dropped for Saturday. Since it was June, the kids were off school and thus there was a larger matinee audience. Here, without that, the gross was still high and I would expect a higher opening overall.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
If it opened on Thanksgiving weekend, it would've cracked 100M easily.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
It should be noted that each new Potter film has earned less than the last during its whole run at the box office, not that they're still not profitable.

Well, they wanted to distance themselves as much as possible from Kong and Narnia -- it should have a big second weekend (60+ million I bet).

True, but this debut is only a bit behind the first, so it reversed a trend set by the last two movies.
Er... the list of opening day debuts at the top of the thread isn't in order of release.

Looking at this again...I think it will break 100M this weekend. 37M now. About 42-43M tomorrow. And another ~30M Sunday. It'll def. break 100M.

Except that Azkaban dropped 24% on Saturday and 21% on Sunday. While I doubt it will repeat numbers like those, it will still not rise quite that much on Saturday.

So - does this make it the third movie to break $100m in three days, after Spiderman and Episode III?

Shrek 2 is the fourth, but yeah, it joins that club barring a lower actual total.

Yay for Harry.

And I still havent gone to see it yet. There are two Imax theaters in downtown boston and neither are playing it. WTF!

Saw HP last night, it's the best potter movie yet!

Although it moved so fast that I doubt anyone who hadn't read the books would understand fully what was going on... but who is going to the movie and hasn't read the books?

Oh, wow. And unlike the last Potter films, this isnt getting a simultaneous worldwide release. Most countries get it next weekend.

"Saturated fat causes heart disease as much as Brawndo is what plants crave."
Not too suprised.

I went to the 10 am viewing yesterday expecting just a few people, and 70-80% of the theater was filled.

And not many kids. The biggest demographics were 13-18 year old girls and adults.
