Well, did my part, subbed to NYT and Washington Post. Thinking of donations.

For the people doing lump sum donations rather than monthly ones. I'd suggest doing the latter for the same amount rather than all up front if possible. If an organization knows they'll receive a certain amount of in a month, it assists them in making quality budgetary decisions.

And I quite appreciate this thread. I've been using my older friend's NYT subscription to read my news, but $1 a week ain't shabby, along with WaPost deal being a thing. I'll look into ProPublica as well, as I do love my Frontline documentaries.

Edit: I'll also look into Mother Jones. I orginally ignored it due to the slant, but I highly respect quality investigate journalism. Seems like my Economist and Atlantic will get some additional buddies soon.

I'm still debating on subs. NYT coverage of the election was crap, WP a bit better. I live in the Uk though, so it'll be international subscription. Will also sub to guardian probably. FT headlines have become nonsense, so not sure on that one. Also the globe and mail is a strong centrist Canadian paper that I recommend for a slightly different view.

My girlfriend and I forwent Christmas gifts and gave large donations to the ACLU, Southern poverty and a few environmental charities in addition to Oxfam and WWF which we normally do. We'll also be donating to causes closer to home in UK.

Great thread. Highly encourage donating to charities if you aren't or can't immediately involved.
