I need to note that I also felt Gaf was accepting prior to the establishment of this thread (I lurked for years before registering); I do feel, however, that there is always room for improvement and I will always be vocal about this.

Personally, I've got no issue with you or with you stating your opinion, I'm just bitter about the situation. Surprisingly so. I didn't think it would bother me so much.
 
This thread is closing? Haven't been posting here for very long but its been nice to come here and be with you guys it truly sucks that this thread will end.

I have some serious issues about how active the thread will be, though, in most cases. That's my problem with these new threads. They risk falling off the front page, never to be seen again, and then someone will have to make a big deal when they come out or have an issue, because all of a sudden they have to reignite a long dead thread single-handedly. This thread was paradoxically much less attention grabbing and more active.

I'm very annoyed. I think the thread is being disaggregated into ineffective sub threads without adequate acknowledgement that this thread is more than the sum of its parts.
 
I hate knowing about these kinds of things really late. I always miss the discussion. : /

I think that there's an element of truth in that.

What mega-threads lack in accessibility (and, arguably, discussion), they make up in continuity and community. And I say that as a member of Gay-GAF as someone who, paradoxically, never really used this thread except on a few occasions.

Oh well, as long as PoliGAF remains open.

I am hugely annoyed, but there is little I can do about it, I have made my arguments, and the decision has been made. We'll see what happens. If I see one dickhead asking why there is some gay shit in another thread, or why there are so many gay threads I will definitely get grumpy though!

I'm to blame for this but if you have been following the other thread, you know this thread will be closed whether we like it or not because the mods want the ability to moderate the threads. All we can do is salvage whatever important elements of this thread and splinter it to several new ones. I can only think two but if you can think another one, this is the time to suggest it.

Do it man. I guess that's the idea. The mods don't want the threads to be too powerful and all-encompassing. Unfortunate but we just have to move on and do whatever we can to salvage this.

I've been here for ages.

I just don't post much because I don't have much of my own gay drama to talk about.

But, when I did (and when it didn't specifically concern coming out, for example) I posted. Plus, it was nice to ask small questions that probably wouldn't warrant their own thread.

I'm still a bit conflicted. I don't feel like this thread is being done justice, but at the same time it's hard to argue.
 
The coming out thread, while very important, just won't get enough posts to stay in the first few pages. Likely, it will die a quick death buried under a thousand girl-age threads and gayGAF will lose all its visibility, and all the benefit that goes with it. This thread did too much to just throw away like this :(

The situation is fluid. We will figure out something that works if what's currently proposed doesn't.
 
I guess it's poetic that the best thread on neogaf and the best beatle should be killed off on the same date ;)

I'm starting to wonder if we even need the coming-out one to be separate from the above. Because some people are concerned that the coming-out thread won't be prolific enough. I don't have the ability to edit thread title though. But it'd be good if it's turned into "Gay and Bisexual relationship + coming-out thread |OT|"

i don't think it would be a big hit as well. if they didn't want to come out in this thread because of the title. i can't see them doing it in the other thread. Or just a support thread for those coming out or thinking or talk about any issues about it. but then again. there's rarely any even in this thread.
 
Hmm I don't really like the idea of us having a gay relationship thread and a coming out thread. I feel like that would split up gaygaf a lot. I'd personally prefer another 'all-purpose' type of gay thread. Just my opinion though.

We can't have all-purpose since the mods argued that it's a waste on resources since it invariably turns into a chatting room. I think, however, a combined relationship+coming out thread should be okay. As long as the thread has a purpose and not end up being a chat of various unrelated topics.
 
I think its kind of ridiculous but TPTB are going to do what they will.

So instead of one thread on first page we're going to have possibly 2 or more depending on how busy GayGAF is getting.

This is what Skype is for :)

Maybe if you added a little section for Skype where people could add a couple of us and be added into the gaygaf chat, that would cut down on some of the in-thread chatter?

Some guy made a 'white-age' thread, in response to the recent 'negroe-age' thread. Then an asian-age and a brown-age thread and a few joke threads popped up, they all got merged then people started questioning THIS thread and it all got shut down in favor of smaller, less inclusive threads.

This really sucks.

I was a lurker here so I could get the "gay" perspective on issues. It was very helpful even though I rarely posted.

I understand Evilore's intentions, but hopefully this experiment fails and you guys get your OT Megathread back. Thankfully this topic didn't get merged with a joke thread, so this thread should still be salvageable if they reverse their decision.
 
Edit: If we're still suggesting thread ideas, I wouldn't mind seeing a thread dedicated to gender and sexual orientation in science/research. Bound to be many interested in reading and discussing studies and such.

I concur with this. This thread and its people have been a great help, but the solution of smaller and more purposed threads is acceptable. My main concern was the thread's benefit would be lost after its closing, but that has been assuaged.

I think it's to be closed, replace by the two new threads. Depending on how that goes, there will be no more megathread.
